Was my first time on a cruise 🚢 ⚓ I fell in love with everything and could not wait to do another cruise

My wife and I celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary with a 12 day cruise from Barcelona to Venice in August 2012. No problem with the \"pre-boarding\" experience. Our cabin was very nice and the cabin stewards were VERY attentive. Food in the Manhattan dining room was superb. However, we did NOT have a very nice experience in the Pinnacle Dining Room. We ate there twice (once was the \"Cirque\" dinner). On both occasions, I thought the quality of the food was less than impressive. Service was marginal. The ship was small enough to not feel crowded. Very few \"rude\" passengers (note: if you have ever taken a cruise you will know exactly what I mean by that)

This was my 13th cruise with HAl and overall 41st.This ship is very clean, the crew is very responsive to service and the food quality and choices are very good. We now know many of the crew of the line and it makes cruisng with them like coming home. I am very happy to highy recommend this ship and HAL but do not take my favorite suite.

Overall, the New Amsterdam is an excellent addition to the HAL fleet. Compared with other HAL ships, it is maybe a little more modern (sterile is too strong) for my particular taste, but thus it answers to its New York theme. Although my husband and I prefer the Rotterdam, the New Amsterdam is larger, offers more in the way of entertainment and has in addition to the excellent Pinnacle Grill, the Tamarind Restaurant for Asian flavors, which is a delight. Like all HAL ships, the New Amsterdam has the great Promenade Deck where walking is a pleasure. With two pools (one salt water) this ship should offer much to all who are looking for a larger, but still intimate cruising experience.

The ship, the crew, the meals, everything could not have been better.

Overall, the ship was decorated with class (not flashy), the service and food were fantastic. The schedule of events, lectures and classes were wonderful and all the staff was polite, friendly, and had customer service in mind. It was easy to find your way around (a mid size ship with 2100 passengers) . The bed was the most comfortable of the 4 cruises we have previously been on, and the cabin was a nice size. We never found ourselves bored, even with a seven day Atlantic crossing. We never took any excursions from the ship (slightly expensive) and since we were close to the cities at the ports, we didn't feel we needed to.

always clean, great ride

the ship is beautiful..........clean...........and impressive however you can only take so many times of the crew sighing rolling there eyes and frowning at you before it gets you down ..we even had two crew members try to get us to open an emergency door then laughed about it

Would like to cruise again on Holland America the dam ships.

a classic ship with above average service, very good food, and average entertainment. I had a great week! I stayed in a suite (ss) and it was the best bathroom I ever had on a cruise ship. Larger then my bathroom at home. There was also a generous amount of storage for three people. The beds were comfortable but not as comfortable as my pillow top mattress at home. The balcony was more than adequate for three people to have breakfast, or to sit and read. One thing that was very, very nice was the cabana that I reserved for the week, I just loved it. The service was excellent at the cabana and I never had to worry about a chair at the pool. Would sale on this ship again.

As it was our first cruise, we picked a *winner*. This cruise ship will be hard to beat for quality and price. Great choice in menus at the Lido, fantastic entertainment each night. Thoroughly enjoyed a massage at The Green House and my husband used the gym each morning. There is plenty to do that you can't keep up so we decided to relax and enjoy the cruise which we did at the Lido pool each day and bake in the sun. My worst fear was to be seasick but the weather being just wonderful and listening to the good advice of everyone, I truly enjoyed this cruise.

We have been on the Zuiderdam in the past, but wanted to try their newest ship, the Nieuw Amsterdam. We were very happy with everything on board... the food, specialty restaurants, the Pinnacle Grill and Tamarind. You can have lunch both for no charge which is good introduction to the restaurants. The food seemed especially good on the ship. The decor is tasteful and the rooms ( we chose a veranda on the stern of the ship) and bathrooms (the shower was ample compared to most ships). We will sail on this ship again.

We were on the 14-day cruiser on December 5th. This was my 22nd cruise and have cruised on the Holland Maasdam in which the "Solerium" was ADULTS ONLY. On this ship it was not for ADULTS ONLY and was VERY, VERY loud and not a quite place for reading and cat napping. I did not like that at all. The only place for adults only was at the back of the ship and it was a small area with a LOUD band that was not very good. Didn't sit there but ten minutes and had to leave. We didn't find the 'Silk Den' until three day before our cruise ended.

We started the cruise for 14 days. First 7 days went all fine. Second part of the cruise we should visit 3 cities. Instead we visited only one city of the cruise we had booked, never had that before. We went to Belize (which is terrible as alternatiave) and then Gran Cayman (as planned) and then we should go to mexico. Almost there and try to dock the ship went away because the weather was bad. While an other cruise ship was already docked half an hour ago. Then again on sea. Then as alternative Key West. Unbelievable. Compensation: 15 percent discount on your next ships cruise!! We will never take Holland America again as this we never had before. The food is good but it is not a ship nice for children. Smoking for example is only allowed on the open part swimming pool but children are not allowed there and not a lot entertainment for children. The children dont want that ship again. Room service takes 30-45 minutes if you are lucky...

This is a great time

This was our second cruise with Holland America. The Niew Amsterdam is a magnificent example of modern technology. Of course the ship is similarly laid out to all of HAL's ships but newer, bigger and better. We ate in the Manhattan dining room 10 of the 12 nights and were never dissapointed. The food in the main dining room was much better than our previous cruise on the Zuiderdam. Of course, our one night at Pinnacle was extraodinary as was our dinner at the Tamarind (Tamarind was extra exceptional if you like Asian inspired food). If you have cruised with HAL before everything will be familiar in regards to the ship layout and the high quality of service from all of the staff. My only gripe, as with most cruises is theres not enough time to enjoy everything the ship has to offer. In the case of this Mediterranean cruise we were in a different port 10 of the 12 days. Many of the ship board activities are scheduled while in port (daytime). Your paying to see ports, not stay on the ship and play bingo. Why can't they schedule more activities in the evening? All in all, an amazing, spectactular cruise on an amazing ship. Every port of call was interesting and different.

We were so excited to go on the inaugural cruise on this brand new ship for our 25th wedding anniversary. However, once on board, we continued to encounter problems throughout the 10-day cruise. It was obvious that the staff was still in training because service was poor in many areas (especially in the speciality restaurants and our room steward.) In one restuarant, we waited over an hour for our food (which had a set menu!) and when it never came, we left. Throughout the entire cruise, we had issues with our air conditioning in our room. The cruise was in July in the eastern Mediterranean so it was very hot and humid. We expected that a brand new ship would have good air conditioning but that was not the case!!! We continuously complained and all they gave us was a fan!!! At one point, it was 86 degrees in our room - pretty hard to sleep when it is that hot! Although the ship is new and beautiful, they still have very many kinks to work out before I would ever recommend them to anyone else!!!

we took the noordam on its first trans-atlantic from rome to new york. If having dirty linen, towels, a toilet that didn't work and rude staff is your idea of a swell time, then we part company. our complaints to ship's crew went unaswered. except one evening we returned, unannounced, to our balcony room to find an officer stumbling all over himself to explainy why he was searching our room.

Very nice staff and smooth working crew n ship. Food very good in Lido n main dining room. No need to waste money on special dining.
