Don't Go with Royal Caribbean "liberty of the Seas!" All their slides have 2-3 hours operations limitations or they are shut down completely. The entire 7 day, I didn't even see the rock climbing open even once. Save your $$$ and go with another Cruise ship!!
I would recommend to arrive at the port at least 3-4 hours ahead of the time. It is much easier to check-in and enter the ship and relax until you are allowed to go to your room. No reason to wait in a long line to check-in.
Book as much as you can in advance, excursions, extras, dining-we missed out on the murder mystery dinner bc it was full. If you like bars, definitely recommend the drink packages. Since the ship is so huge, get the internet package to keep in touch with your party.
Pre plan and pay for your excursions for Roatan and Cozumel. In Costa Maya, do not plan an excursion, just enjoy the area off the pier, it is free and the food and drinks are great.
Several ports prefer you pay in cash, in American $$. You can get $$ from the ATM on board but recommend you take cash, especially smaller bills, for ease of payment.
Do some research on ports-of-call prior to trip so it will be easier to choose an excursion that may be more interesting. Be prepared for a lot of people and being herded like cattle.
Parking in the port at Galveston is somewhat expensive, So plan for that. Royal Promenade is awesome and always a good time. Be sure be up by at least 7am everyday to really get the most out of the ship and the port of calls. Eat early and enjoy the sun!
We had a good shore excursion but I feel the degree of difficulty was not really true. There is no way to know what the entertainment was going to be and we were disappointed. We remembered our last cruise on the Vision of the Seas which was great.
We felt like the food in the Windjammer (buffet) was better than the dining room. Normally dining room food is better. Sandwiches and cookies from the coffee shop and pizza from Pizzaria were very good.
