8 day cruise from Baltimore by miamax

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

We enjoyed our cruise even though the first 2 days were very cold and the last two days were very rough.  We were with another couple and we enjoyed their company even when the weather and seas did not cooperate.  There were plenty of things to do onboard.

We loved leaving from Baltimore because we live around 90 minutes from the port.  Passing under the Bay Bridge was fun.  Also, Baltimore has priority boarding.  It was easy on with priority boarding and easy off with self-assist.

Trip as OK by margareteshman

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

Our dining attendants Anne/Ajay were great, as well as our stateroom attendant "Michael".  We felt there were not much fun things to do on sea days. I enjoyed the "spa" and the gym.  Attractions should be offered several times during the entire cruise.

very nice time, ship is small but enough to do, good shows, good food, could use

a little timing change on getting to islands a little earlier in the day.

Very enjoyable and very comfortable cruise.  All people involved with your stay and cleaning your room to the happy waiters and waitress's.  Everyone tried to be upbeat and wanted you to have the best vacation ever.

Not All Fun And Games!!! by xboyc

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Some of it was very good, great people and some fun too. Did not care for the new Cruise Director and his wife at all. Last one was a great joy!!! They need to update their trivia library for people who go on the same ship multiple times. It's like watching TV re-runs!!! The shows were good, but, three same as our Autumn excursion!!! Two comedians especially!!! The singing cruise directors, well I will be kind here. Now to the really bad part, we both got NORO virus, never got off ship in St. Maarten. Ship did refund that. He got sick first...and days later me...I still am. Medical staff was wonderful, and the room isolation was not their fault. Everyone on staff was great, who knows where this came from. We have taken this ship 3 times, and this was the worst thing we encountered. Shame!!! Right now, I feel I want to stay on land for a good while to come, but, I am feeling pretty lousy too!!! Thank God, this hit at end of cruise not beginning!!!

Grandeur of the Seas by lifeguardatdenb

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Overall the cruise was fine; nothing exceptional.  The menu has not changed in four or five years and so that was a little boring.  And they continue to put in a lot of salt into the food.  The weather, which the ship has no control over, was very windy and the waves seemed a little rough.  Believe me I have been on much worse on this same ship.  The main reason I go on this cruise is convenience.  I take the D.C. Metro to Union Station and then catch the MARC Train (Maryland Commuter Train) to Baltimore's Penn Station; from there I take a  taxi to the pier.  It sounds worse than it really is and I save $15.00 a day in parking.  The entertainment was very good except for Joe Y from Boston whom I felt was trying to hard to be funny and was "overdoing" it even in the adult show.

Could be better for those with physical challenges. by rupe22

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

It's a small ship so it's more at the mercy of the weather and seas and for the physically challenged, it's not adequately compensated for. Good luck trying to get through your cabin door.

stateroom problems by ragdollgirl1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

My phone, Fit bit, and Kindle chargers along with the multiple connection device for them were taken from my luggage before we got the luggage in the state room.

The ship on the most part was fine but we had way too many problems with our stateroom.  First night shower head was coming off the hose, they replaced it the next day.  Following that we had no hot water in the shower for 2 days, they came and fixed it.  The next day the drain in the bathroom clogged and water from the shower overflowed and we had to use all our towels to sop it up, they came and fixed it.  Floor by the bed was wet and I had to put towels on the carpet to keep my feet dry.  That went on for 3 days and the day before we were to Dock in Baltimore they came to fix it.  There was also a banging sound above my bed that woke me intermittingly during the night.  The day before we docked they came and found a pipe leaking behind the outside wall which they fixed but they had to remove the ceiling panels to find the leak and where the noise was coming from.  This took most of that day and we could not acess the room to start packing because the furniture was in the middle of the room.  Once fixed they put fans on to dry the carpet which they didn't do but instead they amplified the bad wet carpet odor coming from under the bed.

So, yes, cruise was fun but room, not so much.

Review of Grandeur of the Seas-Geared towards older generation by SusanStewart76

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Overall all I was disappointed with this cruise. There were very few activities for children young and old. The one club was closed early most nights. Few activities going on while we had the days at sea. Basically the ship was dead by 1 am. The staff was fabulous, room was nice, food was good. Overall comparing to my experience with Carnival, this is just not a cruise to take children on. Only one pool available to young ones, rock wall was closed almost every day due to weather, shows were great but again not many suited towards the younger generation. No more ice sculptures, when did that happen?  This was my first experience on Royal Carribean and I would have to say more than likely my last. I will be returning to carnvial. Overall just a much better experience with Carnival and entertainment. Having said all that,, the staff was ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS! All the way around! I would recommend for the older generation, very relaxing and quiet. Special areas just for people with no kids. I just think overall this cruise was geared toward 50+ and unfortunately we were traveling with 2 children ranging in ages from 7-10 and 3 children ranging in ages 15-19. Just not very much fun for them. In my party we had 5 adults ranging in age from 39-59, again just not much going on. Excursions and stops were fabulous, days at sea were long and boring.

Looking at other cruise lines now! by samueljr1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Grandeur of the Seas has lost some it's grandeur. Quality of food was at best equal to going to a all you can eat banquet restaurant. The only difference in food quality between Dinning Room and Windjammer was being served the food instead instead of serving yourself. Service was excellent as always from the suite attendant to the bar and restaurant. Didn't care for being badgered daily in purchasing a restaurant up grade. Understanding the ship is now 20 years old, yet it needs some very needed upgrades in furnishing and mechanical maintenance.

NIce Cruise Ship needs work by jdevanzo

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

The cruise started out just fine. The ship is in need of some repairs. On the day before the last port Labadee, one of the 4 engines had an issue which caused us to miss Labadee, and sail home to Baltimore. This is an issue that could not be helped, but did show how the ship does need to be dry docked, which is scheduled in 2017.

Food needs to get better, the food on the buffet seemed to be the same. Almost forcing you to go to the specialty restaurants. Which we did, and they were great food was amazing and the service was great as well.

Our cabin attendant was great as well. As was the anyone we asked a question of . Royal Caribbean still remains our  first choice  for cruising.

Wonderful Cruise But Didn't End Well! by tyvewa

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Overall for the 10 day cruise all was wonderful.  However the last port-of-call to Labedee was cancelled at the last minute.  The reason we were given, was one of the engines had failed.  However to be fair...RCI did issue on-board credit valued at 20% of the cruise cost.  All credit that wasn't used on ship was refunded in full.  But would really have enjoyed the last stop!  However, all being said...we would cruise with RCI again.  The service, both Stateroom & Dinner were exceptional.  The food in the main dinning room was top-notched!

Ship showing its age.  Onboard drinks expensive. Staff very good,

friendly. Ship showing its age, missed private island but very satisfied with compensation.  Food OK overall but had a "prime rib" that was a quarter of a inch thick.

Family cruise on Grandeuer of the Seas by bbaird777

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

We have sailed with RCI several times but this time we chose one of the older, renovated smaller ships. We were disappointed in the entertainment on this ship & also the food in the main dining room. The quality was well below our previous cruises with RCI & I wonder if they are putting their resources into the newer, larger ships & shortchanging the smaller ships.  I would rather pay a bit more & receive the same quality that we are used to with RCI.

Time of our Lives!! by donnam19540

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

We had a very good time on this cruise. The many activities on the ship kept us from getting "cabin fever" during the 3 days at sea. The captain was very good at keeping us informed as to how the sailing was going. Each day, at noon, he made an announcement, and always threw in a little joke at the end.

Wonderful experience by khatuna0416

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

This was my 4th cruise (all of them with the Royal Caribbean) and probably one of the best vacation we ever had. The port was only 18 miles away from home, it took us about 40 minutes from the parking lot to the ship. The ocean was rough first few days. The Grandeur of the Caribbean is a 20 year-old ship refurbished few years ago. The room service was stellar, food was great, entertainment shows were excellent, customer service was good, doctor's office (yes we needed to go there once) was fantastic. We missed one stop at Labadee, Haiti. They promised to give us 20% credit. We haven't seen the clear statement showing the expenses vs. credit but hope we'll find out soon.

Wonderful Trip and Crew! by PAFamily

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

We live in PA and you can't beat leaving from your local port (versus NJ or SC).  Food was exceptional, many choices, fresh and carefully prepared.

The boat is one of the oldest in the fleet but room was clean and dining staff and servers were TOP NOTCH!

Entertainment was wonderful, comedians, band, children's face painting/balloon art.  Due to some ship timing, we were unable to make our last stop in Haiti and RCI granted us a 20% discount-nice.  DId I mention RCI offered Easter Sunday mass and was VERY respectful in acknowledging the Veterans and 1st responders-classy.

Husband and I even learned how to Tango and swing dance-

4-stars, not 5 as I wish there were more dishes bins/trash receptacles to put our used dishes/trash versus having staff clean-up.

Experience of Grandeur of the Seas by hwangnancy

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

The best thing about this cruise is its staff who are very diligent, friendly, organized and really care for the passengers.  We are very impressed with the cruise director and his wife who tried very hard to mingle with the passengers and their programs are focused on people.  Their stateroom and dinner room servers are all very well trained to carry our duties professionally.  This compensates the relatively lower quality of the food and production shows when compared to other cruise lines such as Princess and Norwegians.  The ship is old but maintained well and clean but the stateroom window frames are rusted and did not give a good first impression when enter the room which is a pity because the beddings are better than Princess and Norwegians in our experience.  We also got a 20% rebate automatically because we did not go to the last port due to the problem of one of the four engines.

Smaller ship than I am used to, but has all the bells and whistles.  Departure from Baltimore was seamless.  The crew on board are outstanding and make you feel safe and pampered.  Truly the royal treatment.
