Loads of Fun by cathyaldrich57

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Freedom of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Everything on this ship was great, from the staff to the accomodations to the shows and food.  Our cabin service worker made sure our room was always ready for us, was never in our way, greeted us in the hallways daily and had fresh ice in our room daily.  Our wait staff in the dining room was attentive, remembered our preferences from day to day and was always friendly.  The ship was clean and never felt crowded.  The shows were excellent every night.  The Promenade was really special and made this a ship to remember.  We have been on 8 other cruises and enjoyed this ship tremendously and would recommend it.

our getaway by cdworld

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Freedom of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

The best way to describe our experience on the Freedom of the Seas is using the golfing term "at par". Everything from the stateroom to the shopping to dining was what you would expect from a Royal Caribbean cruise, nothing exceptional here.  In fact if your heart is not set on their Flowrider surfing activity, I would say save your money and go on the Voyager of the Sea or the Explorer of the Sea.  What I did notice was a measurable decrease in the level of enthusiasm and friendliness in the crew. Could be due to the automatic gratuity charges.....?

FREEDOM OF THE SEAS by POLSKANUSIA

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Freedom of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

BEAUTIFUL SHIP BUT THE FOOD WAS HORRIBLE SMALL SELECTION, NO FLAVOR, AND EVERYTHING TASTED VERY SIMILAR. THE DINING ROOM AND CHOPS GRILL BOTH HAD THIS BROWN SAUCE THAT WE COULDN'T SEEM TO ESCAPE. IT SEEMED LIKE THEY PUT IT ON EVERYTHING. WE INITIALLY  WENT ON CARNIVAL DREAM THE YEAR BEFORE AND THOUGHT WE WOULD GIVE ROYAL CARRIBEAN A TRY. THE STAFF WAS CONSTANTLY CLEANING THE SHIP SO IT WAS VERY CLEAN BUT THE LEVEL OF CUSTOMER SERVICE WAS NOT AS GOOD AS CARNIVAL DREAM. OVERALL YOU GET A NICER LOOKING SHIP FOR THE MONEY BUT NOT MUCH ELSE. WILL GIVE THE OASIS OF THE SEAS A TRY BUT IF IT TURNS OUT TO BE THE SAME i THINK WE WILL PROBABLY STICK W/ CARNIVAL.

Three stars too good, 2 stars too bad by JL1944

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Freedom of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Overall the service aboard ship is excellent.  The food in the dining room is just average and certainly  NOT up to previous cruise standards or my expectations.  Seating in the dining room is EXTREMELY crowded so as to impede the egress without squeezing between chairs and diners and bumping into many.  I had different table guests every night of the cruise which makes friend-making a bit more difficult.  The Windjammer (buffet dining) is excellent and the menu is varied to the point that if you cannot find something you like, then you cannot be satisfied at all.  Cold fod is served cold and hot food is served hot - it is tasty and presented nicely.

The cruise directors staff was good but some of them had such strong accents, it was was difficult to understand them for this old country boy who speaks only English.  Many people participating in Trivia and other contests were forced to have the host/hostess SPELL the words they were saying so they could be understood.

The shows were excellent and the entertainers were top-notch in EVERY venue.  While the poolside musicians were excellent, their repertoire was very repetitive.

Personally I missed the midnight dessert buffet and ice sculptures of all cruises past.  It was always a photo op of the first order and since I am diabetic, it wasn't for the desserts I missed it.  Just too much cost cutting, I fear.

The room steward was EXCELLENT and the state of the room was beyond excellent at all times.

I booked another cruise for next May aboard Oasis of the Seas and have determined that the service and conditions of the cruise better be improved or I will use another cruise line instead.

A Fantastic Vacation by alyjack

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Freedom of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

This was a dream come true. I thought 8 days was a long time but in reality it was not long enough. The food was delicious and the service was exceptional.  There were so many activities that it was impossible to take advantsge of them all.  I guess I will have to take another cruise to try the rest.

OK, but not great by Hamburger

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Freedom of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

We had been on the Freedom of the Seas two years before, so we knew what to expect, and of course we hoped it would be even better than our 2012 experience.  The cruise was good and we had a great time onboard, but we just felt that some things could have been better, like the food and the attention to detail.  First of all, we expected "gourmet quality food", and we just did not get that.  The fresh baked bread was outstanding, and some of the deserts were fantastic.  The entrees were 'hit or miss', and that was really unfortunate.  Some other issues included cabin maintenance, where we had to call a few times for repairs, management of the teen program, and responsiveness of customer service.  We had an issue with a shore excursion, which was not resolved to our satisfaction.  I guess, with over 4000 passengers on board, some things just slip through the cracks.  Royal Caribbean is a great cruise line, and we plan to cruise again, but almost certainly on a different ship.

Awesome Ship and Crew by bigdad39us

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Freedom of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

The Freedom of the Seas was a grand experience in cruising. This ship had so much to offer and was

enjoyable from start to finish. The service was some of the best I have experienced, especially the dining and stateroom. The entertainment was 5 star and the ports of call were breathtaking.

Royal Caribbean has a jewel in Freedom of the Seas. Although we did miss the midnight buffet we understood the reasoning behind not providing it anymore. Maybe just have it one night with chocolate theme, just saying. Great relaxing vacation.

Amazing Ship, Amazing Islands by ace11176

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Freedom of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

The ship was amazing! We had one of the smallest staterooms and there was still plenty of room, more than all of the other cruise lines I've been on (which is 3). The food was great, my only complaint is that the buffet closes at 9 pm, which I thought was to early. If I wanted a healthy late snack it was hard to find, there are other options like pizza and sandwiches. There are so many fun activities to do, and fun things going on all the time. I love the main pool area, it has a little splash area you can sit in and stay cool in the sun while you watch the big screen. The ports we went to were amazing, unfortunately the swells were too big so we didn't see Coco Cay. St Thomas was beautiful. We snorkeled at Lindquist Beach, which was secluded and beautiful. We snorkeled on the reefs there and saw sea turtles, sting rays, sand dollars and beautiful fish. They do not have snorkel gear there so you have to bring it. The can ride p/p was $10 each way. In st Maarten we went b to Orient Beach, the French side. It was one of the most beautiful beaches I've ever been to. The cab ride was cheap, the more people you have the cheaper the price. We had 4 people and it was $32 roundtrip for both of us. It is a nude beach, which I didn't prefer, but if you stay to the left of the rocks (if you're looking at the ocean) there aren't any nude people. This cruise left me wanting to find a crawl space I could sneak in to stay on another week.

Review by cruisedood

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Freedom of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

My new Husband and I loved this cruise! Only downside was having to miss Coco Cay because the seas were too rough. I understand you can't control the weather but it seemed as if there was no "back up" plan in store if an extra day at sea was needed. That really dissapointed me. The food was just as good as Carnivals although I was expecting it to be better. Our servers in the dining room rocked though! We had Kumar and he was great =)

Great cruise but there's room for improvements by kirk1569

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Freedom of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

My Time Dining...Well not really... No one told use once you make a reservation you can't change it..  I found the host less than polite and more towards down right rude.  Rather than just stating was not available earlier than the time we made our reservation for she point out oh you have reservation and told us to check back in 15 minutes or so.  When we did check back still nothing was available.  This broke the rule the cruise director stated you never break, placing entertainment in competition with food...  We also did not think it was right Not compensating for not be able to go to Coco Day (which we were really looking forward to.  We found out from other guest that the issue with bad weather and Coco Day is a frequent issue.  Seems to be  waste of time (or a clever deception on your part) to even attempt to visit it.  Maybe. A better idea would be to steam SE and hit St Johns on say then St Thomas...  Our attendants in the main dining and our cabin stewards were fantastic!  Compared to our experiences with other cruise lines was fare to middlin...

Excellent First Rate Cruise by jlnmj

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Freedom of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

From the check in on board to the dining room staff, to the entertainment staff etc they were all first class and gave great customer service! There was more than you could do which gave us plenty of choices. the food quality in the Windjammer Cafe Buffet to the Dining Room was great quality and great portions. Everyone was friendly and inviting. The variety on board allowed us to pick and choose. Even tho there were a lot of passengers on board we never felt like a little fish in a big sea. We would definitely do this cruise again and take our three teenagers!

Big ship but not overwhelming. .loved it! by suezqofusa

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Freedom of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

can't complain about anything on this cruise. Steward was very attentive always bringing me ice bucket towels total concern for me and my husband. ICE show is a total must see and I saw the Platters! Get tickets before you board so u a re good to get in .Also the pool and the dancing under the stars was the hIt! I had a mini suite that might have been a factor. My drink package was rather expensive ..55 per day ..included all premium cocktails ..wine at dinner..fruit slushy drinks and a coke container/ souvenir and all the bottled water one could want but they would only give u one bottle at a time..If you're a big water drimker..u have to run from bar to bar to collect them. I did have an obstruction when I looked up on my balcony once the sun set..it looked like a UFO ..it was the 11th floor jacuzzi!!! If you're a stargazer like me ..it will ruin your day/ rather night so the assistant desk manager Andy ..gave me a 20 percent voucher toward my next cruise. That made me feel a bit better but still an obstructed view ..cabin no.9264..starboard also another jacuzzi on port side same location. CHOPS GRILLE was really lacking...not much variety and husband said his NY strip was tough. My filet was good but the " warm cookie " desert was just a couple cookies from the common area heated in microwave!! People next to me were so impressed. .I chuckled:) Heard Portofino was better upgrade restaurant. The guitar ballad guy in the small bar in the Promenade was the Best!! Played everything and people were soo....happy there singing along to the wee hours ! Few chair hogs at pool but some gorgeous weather so just sat in pool with a drink and had great conversations. Met wonderful people at our late seating table of 8 and saw them every night. My friend Anna and Rodrigo and Matt and Azia...best buddies:) Ports are pretty boring..The Orient beach in St Martin ( nude bch) was entertaining . I've never experienced that before . All in all .Lovely ship Great staff and people Food was average and pretty bland. I would love to have Indian food pretty much everyday day:( Enjoy!! I would definitely take this ship again .!!

Almost an excellent cruise by achuttle

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Freedom of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Our cabin ( 6626)  steward (Bryan) was excellent....he exceeded our expectations.

Our server Erika , at the early dinner seating (table # 263) was  fabulous!  She and her assisant,

Sid, made our dining experience a memerable one. They were very friendly, curtious , & polite.

The solarium pool area was nice, but most of the time there were lounge chairs unoccupied with

towels on them & no one using them. ( This happened every day & people were looking to occupy

them.)   This should be monitored more closely by enforcing the time limit posted in that area.

The food, at times, was a  little dissappointing... ordered french onion soup that had no cheese on top & chicken cord on bleu had a bone in it!

But, most of all, disembarkment was a disaster!!!  Took an hour after our group was called to get to

pick up our luggage. (Customs, however,  was no problem.)  We have been on other cruises & never experienced disembarkation delays like this!

The cruise itself, however,  was a good one.

Wonderful Voyage by grandmom405

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Freedom of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

My husband and I had a wonderful cruise. We were accompanied by my Aunt and Uncle.  The food was fabulous and everyone we came into contact with from the Royal Caribbean cruise line went out of their way to make our voyage the best ever.

We will definitely cruise again on Royal Caribbean!
