It was sub-par. by cheapys

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Freedom of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

What do I mean when I say that the cruise vacation was "sub-par"? Royal Caribbean is taking the "Freedom of the Seas" ship out of commission, and it was evident by the lacking in almost all phases of this vacation. It was as when the decision was made to replace this ship for a newer mega ship, they has been withdrawing support for the older ship, and preparing to end the service of it. Unfortunately, I feel like I receive less of a vacation then I expected. I say this after taking seven previous cruises with Royal Caribbean, and this was the one that deliver less then all the others, in terms of service, itinerary, cleanliness, entertainment, etc.

Royal Caribbean - Freedom of the Seas - August 2016 by mjjurick

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Freedom of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Our 40th Anniversary cruise was wonderful!  From the time we booked our cruise and throughout the entire cruise we had friendly and outstanding service from the staff.  The food in the main dining room, Leonardo, was tasty and we had a variety of choices each day.  Windjammers was always convenient for a quick and enjoyable meal.  Johnny Rockets was a "blast from the past" and the servers were a lot of fun!  The various shows were outstanding and had very talented people.  There was always something fun happening on the ship and the choice of excursions was excellent.  I highly recommend Royal Caribbean and Freedom of the Seas for your cruising!  Love

Love this boat! by jocemmedina

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Freedom of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

This is my second trip on the Freedom and I absolutely love this boat. There is never a shortage of things to do and the people who work on it are absolutely amazing. Royal Caribbean really doesn't compromise when it comes to service.

The ports of call were pretty much all amazing. It rained a little bit in Grand Cayman but it didn't stop us from getting on a Catamaran and going to stick ring city. Roatan, Honduras was absolutely beautiful (we did the snuba) and Costa Maya was amazing. I personally do not like Cozumel. There's a lot of shopping but we decided to take a cab to Paradise Beach and it was really nothing special. This is my third time to Cozumel, and if I get on another cruise with this port I probably won't get off.

Port Canaveral is a great port, everything was fast and organized.

I would say the only thing Freedom needs is a little upgrade. Their karaoke looks like its from the 90's and one of the comedians the brought on board was so bad. The majority of their shows are great (Majority Rules, The Quest, Once Upon a Time, Love and Marriage). But some of them are terrible (Sail Away Show, Marquee, 70's dance party...which I thought was super corny).

The Quest is a MUST DO if you like audience participation games. It's absolutely hilarious.

All in all, I would DEFINITELY go on Freedom again!

Royal Caribbean.... is Royal Treatment by lesliebarbee

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Freedom of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

This is our 6th cruise, 5 on Royal Caribbean and one on another cruise line.  That one cruise cured us from trying other cruise lines... We love Royal Caribbean simply because the service is so much better and the quality of everything is so much better.  We have our 7th cruise already planned!  Lovin' the Life!    Love

Excellent cruise by edwinmartin91

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Freedom of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

We cruised with our daughter and her triplet 13 year old sons.  We all thoroughly enjoyed the service and activities -- the boys had a great time in the teen center and all the sport activities.  Likewise we enjoyed the second seating dinners in Isaac's with our family and with delicious food and service from the staff.  Though we were booked for an eastern Caribbean cruise, because of the pending storm we ended up doing the Western cruise, which was fine -- better safe than sorry!

After 50 cruises this one was the most disappointing! by cmagill

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Freedom of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

I can't say one thing was good about this particular cruise.  We have cruised 5 times on the Freedom.  The ship is tired looking.  Looks like it needs a makeover.  Everything on this ship is dusty.  We were supposed to sail to the eastern Caribbean but we went western Caribbean.  Didn't find out until the night of day one.  I signed a waiver saying its OK to take me to St. Thomas & St. Martin but I did not sign a waiver to say its OK to take me to Cozumel.  Understand the captain made the choice for safety reasons and I appreciate that.  However, there were so many wonderful ports we could have taken it was an insult to take me to Cozumel and Costa Maya. This is the second time we switched itineraries on the Freedom but the captain last year was different and he made better choices.  This captain was not empathetic for all the people first time cruisers, people that planned the cruise over a year ago saving their money.  The captain should have done something special he did NOTHING.  He didn't burn very much fuel because we didn't go very far.  Port fees "may" have been cheaper in Mexico?  I find it interesting this ship is leaving Port Canaveral and the new ports are going to be.... Cozumel and Costa Maya.  Coincidence?Angry  I am not a happy camper.  I usually favor RCCL but this has given me pause.

Disappointed by jeffjoslin

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Freedom of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

I'm a loyal Royal cruiser. I've never cruised any other line but seriously re-thinking after this trip. Storms re-routed our trip to Cozumel and Costa Maya, two places I never wanted to visit again from a previous trip. Royal didn't try to do anything to make up for the change of plans. We spent a lot of money on this cruise to go the place we wanted. Some other cruisers were given internet credit. The spa overcharged us and Royal assured us it was taken off, but it wasn't. Had to deal with the spa after the trip and now it will be 30+ days to receive the credit back. The staff were the most un-friendly of any Royal cruise I'd been on. I am a very disappointed Gold member and now looking at other cruises to see what others have to offer.

Diverted do to bad weather. by srtdude

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Freedom of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

This was our first time on RC. We had a great time though we did not go to our original ports of call due to bad weather there.  But our room attendant Ronald was very good and did a great job. Our waiter in the dinning room was Sid and he was great as well.  The boat was beautiful and my wife liked how al the shops were together on deck 5.  The food was a little better on NCL in my opinion.  But we had a great time on our first RC cruise and would go back with them.

First cruise ever by Wishwehadgone

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Freedom of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

For part of cruise was the stops and be able to get off the ship. Love the water.

Our room attendant was fantastic as well our dining attendants.

Express exit in the AM was wonderful.

What needs improvement:

The morning wait staff- need to talk to each other and help the guests.---Restaurant on  3rd deck

Fix the plumbing issues in our son's room.

Compensate for not being to go where the plan was- understand the safety issues but it was a real disappointment.

Stop nickel and dining everything-30 dollars for a small bag of dirty laundry.

Have a first time cruisers seminar on the first day.

Have more than one soft serve ice cream machine.

Freedom of the seas by blbbsb

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Freedom of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

My favorite part was the Once Upon A Time show. It was a great show as was the ice skating show. The level of customer service. It seemed to be 50/50 depending on who you spoke to. Throughout the cruise when we asked questions we were referred to different places often and still really never got accurate responses.

more like the old time criuses by tommichele1227

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Freedom of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

I enjoyed the cruise,  not to many children running around.  the service was very good. the Galileo's service was exceptional.  we were served by Adi and Christian at table 143 or 142, cant remember which.  and bar sever was great as well.  we had great sevice in or stateroom by Sharon Carter Jamie wonderful lady.

we were very pleased to see that the captain made a good choice to go around a storm that was brewing in the waters near or destination.  very happy for that I think safety first. saw that the pools and hot tubs were being cleaned often.  very enjoyable cruise.  entertainment was very good as well.

eastern Caribbean turned into western Caribbean cruise by suzanneskinner

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Freedom of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

The cruise was great the food, the service, the people were all outstanding. My family had a great time however would be great if the children 4-10 had move activities to do.  Also, there needs to be more theater nights, the ones I was were wonderful but you need more of them.

My one complaint is that every beverage package did not include bottled water.  Why would I pay for beer, wine and soda and no water.  Most people do not drink soda any longer but do drink bottled water.  You need to add bottled water to you beverage packages.

Everything was great. Wouldn't change anything. Dining staff was excellent.

the adult solarium was always crowded that to be expected with a full ship. Our

room steward was very friendly and keep the room immaculate.

From the drop off at the pier to the days on board,RC makes enjoyment , number one, This is my forth cruise on the Freedom, always a pleasant experience.I would have given 5 stars except for , no hot water(fixed but it took a long time before the water got hot and ,,the evening shows were all good except for the comedian ,,a whole row of people in front of us got up and left..                         ..  We had  a great time and we will cruise again with Royal Caribbean , we don't have to look anywhere else. The Captain showed great judgement in taking us west ,every day was sunny I tip my hat for a great move.

Western Caribearn - Aug 2016 by amaknasser77

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Freedom of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The brightest spot was the help from the travel agent who facilitated every aspect of the trip.  I will definitely call her back to help me with my next cruise.

I got the run around the first two days in my attempt the buy water and have it delivered to my cabin; in fact I did not get half of the water package delivered until the day of departure on Sun Aug 21.

Besides that, the cruise was average.  I will probably pick a different ship next time.
