Review summary

I'm a loyal Royal cruiser. I've never cruised any other line but seriously re-thinking after this trip. Storms re-routed our trip to Cozumel and Costa Maya, two places I never wanted to visit again from a previous trip. Royal didn't try to do anything to make up for the change of plans. We spent a lot of money on this cruise to go the place we wanted. Some other cruisers were given internet credit. The spa overcharged us and Royal assured us it was taken off, but it wasn't. Had to deal with the spa after the trip and now it will be 30+ days to receive the credit back. The staff were the most un-friendly of any Royal cruise I'd been on. I am a very disappointed Gold member and now looking at other cruises to see what others have to offer.

Why people don't try other lines is mind boggling to me. Don't say it's because of the minimal perks. I have been on 5 different lines and there isn't one that I wouldn't do again. Why is it that people who complain the most about cruising, keep cruising?

Jstone369. I hear ya, I was on their too but I have to say as disappointing as it was to not go to St Thomas and St. Martens (love those islands, been there already) we did appreciate the captain keeping us safe and in the sunshine. I agree with you on the Mexican ports, Terrible ports of call. Try other lines but take some time to think about what your upset about. We got 7 great weather days! Cheers! Go 5,24,48,88.....taking liberties that your a Nascar fan living in Concord.

You should have been on Anthem when the ship was so inclined you almost fell out of bed where you were REQUIRED TO STAY IN YOUR CABIN not enjoy beautiful weather where you could swim or take an excursion in safety!! Then you might have a beef with the Captain or Royal Caribbean .

I just got off of Freedom of the sea and when we booked last year them wad the places we was going you must been on carnival

We just got back a week ago on RC and we didn't get to go to our original ports which we so badly wanted to visit, and went to Mexico to where the weather was gorgeous and still had a blast!! Your vacation is what you make of it, you could have gone to a rainy port with high winds and a rocking ship, or be diverted to a sunshine port to have fun!!

we were upset that the ports were changed but worked out for us cause it was cheaper in cozmel to swim with dolphins

All ships are good, carnival (more party, go for larger ships 5+ days) Princess (little more sophisticated) Holland America...older crowd (onboard activities not past 9/10pm)....

It's hurricane season, bad review for keeping you safe, sad!

Every cruise line reroutes for safety during storms as it is their duty of care to ensure the safety of their passengers. Try other cruise lines and just learn to enjoy your holiday :) I am a loyal RC cruiser I am yet to meet an unfriendly crew member . I love RC for their food , service and entertainment , the ports of call are just icing on the cake .

It's cheaper to cruise in hurricane season because of the high possibility of Port changes, if you pick a cruise for the ports go at another time of year and pay more

dargriff60    8 years ago

Don't cruise in hurricane season

I don't think cruise lines should give you anything for missing a port because of weather, except whatever port fee you paid. How is it their responsibility to give you any more than that?

shaza69    8 years ago

RC gave us free cocktails as compensation 😂

shaza69    8 years ago

Can't help weather! There can be many reasons that you have to miss a port. One cruise I went on I missed two ports Because a staff member had suspected swine flu really wanted to go to St. Lucia and Antigua .. They wouldn't allow the boat to dock for fear of infection. Very disappointing.. Stil loyal to RC though ☺️

I was on the same ship maybe because it was only my second cruise, but I loved it. I was so excited to have good weather and the ship was great. Anywhere you go on a ship is awesome...the shows were great.

Don't bother trying Princess they totally changed our itinerary some of which dont make sense and I checked with one port authority and ship still booked to be berthed there so looks like they changing to cheaper tender disembark options

Unfortunately you take a chance cruising these areas during hurricane season...late November to May is your best bet. Good luck on future cruises!🚢

Many cruise lines won't do anything for a port change due to storms. Its actually mentioned in your contract that they have the right to change ports due to this. You definitely should check out other lines. Try newer celebrity ships also

deepcman    8 years ago

I would suggest you choose another cruise line just so you have something to compare. If you go NCL or Carnival I suggest you select one of their newer ships. We enjoy Princess every now and then, but go Carnival when we're looking for fun.

That's too bad. At least you went to other ports. We were on a carnival ship last year and missed grand turk due to a hurricane. We just had another rainy day at sea. We got some $$ back for the port fees but that was it.
