Why Are Disney Cruises So Expensive??? by D3

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Disney Magic / Destination: Caribbean

I have been on three cruises,--once on Carnival, and twice with Costa. Every cruise was a 7-day Caribbean cruise. I have nothing but GREAT things to say about those past cruises!!! My husband and I are thirty-ish, and we have four boys. I can't express enough how wonderful our cruise experiences were aboard both the Carnival and Costa cruise ships. I'd like to try out a Disney cruise, but after reading the reviews, it seems that their pools are not large enough, and the shows are not all that great. Let me just say that the whole Disneyworld-theme-parks-thingy is all OVER-RATED!!!! So, someone, please, please enlighten me, and tell me why oh why are the Disney cruises so outrageously priced??!!?!?! And please do not respond with the private island Castaway Cay answer,--- it's not enough. And besides, both Carnival and Costa had private island getaways for the passengers. Really though, I'm just so wanting to know why the thousand dollar per person cost for the trip? Thank you in advance for any answers to my one simple question!!!!

The Magic was my first... by TKSwimDude

Sail date: /
Ship: Disney Magic

The Magic was my first cruise ever and I really enjoyed it. I was younger at the time so I know that Disney Cruises are meant for kids, but it would be fun to go again!

Thanksgiving With Disney by JoeB14

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Disney Magic / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Our family spent Thanksgiving with Disney aboard the Magic. The overall experience was fantastic. We found the ship, crew, food, activities, and shows top notch. We have been on other cruises before and Disney exceeds them all. Our kids loved the kids club and all the activities they had to offer. We traveled with an eleven year old, eight year old, and five year old. After the shows at night the kids chose to go to the kids club everynight. Our eldest did not come in until after midnight everynight. They had so much fun in the clubs they never wanted to leave. We found the food to be great. We don't have anything bad to say about the buffets, room service, or dinner seatings. Many reviews have reported the Topsiders Buffet as horrible, but we found nothing wrong with this buffet and ate there twice. We have eaten at the top rated restaurants in New York, Paris, and the US and found no reason to talk these options on the boat down. The room was adequate for sleeping 5, though we heard you can save money and have more room buy reserving 2 adjoining rooms instead. We chose the family deluxe room. The excursions were great. We swam with the dolphins, went parasailing, visit the butterfly farm and turtle farm. All of these were great. We will definitely cruise with Disney again.

A disappointment by Jeannie2

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Disney Magic / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

I was extremely disappointed in this cruise. I have been on several carnival cruises and heard from a friend that disney was so much better, so i had very high expectations. Unfortunately the cruise did not live up to that. I thought the food was not very good, especially breakfast and lunches. The service was good but the food was not. Also the room was small and the deck was small in comparison to carnival. I don't think that disney was worth the extra money. Castaway Cay is a great place and they should just go spend a couple of days there with may be an evening beach party and it think it would be a great cruise. The small children liked their camps, but the 14 was also very disappointed in his camps.

It was pure Disney Magic by SonyaD1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Disney Magic / Destination: Caribbean - Western

It was our first cruise. We were a bit concerned because it was Disney and we were unsure about having many children on the ship. We worried for nothing. The children's activities were isolated from the adults down to the swimming pools. Opting for the late seating spared us from the majority of the younger children. The staff was unbelievably professional and friendly. The entertainment was over the top. Cleanliness was not to be believed. The ship was run in the most efficient safe manner that one could imagine. We booked our next cruise before we were finished with this one. Whether you have children or not, you will not be disappointed.

could have been better by DonaldP

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Disney Magic / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

We cruised on the Magic during Christmas of 2006 for 10 days and it could have been better . The ship was clean and comfortable and the staff was good like most cruise lines, but the food was mediocre and some of the worst I have ever had on my 17 cruises. It was prepackaged, half heated up and served lukewarm. The only thing done better than other cruise lines was the private island ,Castaway Cay, which was a great time, and the special restaurant, Palo (wish I could have eaten there every night) But the one redeeming day on Castaway Cay was not enough to save this cruise. my 12 year old was bored and the rest of my family was happy to leave.

Fabulous Cruise! by MichelleM14

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Disney Magic / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Very friendly staff. Excellent service and extremely quick repairs in stateroom maintainence. We needed a light bulb changed and it happened right away. We had twin 3 year olds and they didn't want to get off the ship! They loved the character meet and greets as well as the Oceaneer's Club! Wonderful Youth Activities team!

Wonderful Cruise by MikeJ6

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Disney Magic / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Very impressed with the staff on this cruise, always willing to help. Pools were small in all areas. We didn't have planned excurisons and took a cab to the beaches on the different ports of call. Pirates of the Carribean night with fireworks was great. Castaway Cay was excellent, family loved the day we spent there.

Worst Experience Ever by AntolinP

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Disney Magic / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Firts off all,I'm sory about my bad english, this it not my native language ;) I'm amazed of all the good reviews i just read on this website about this ship. Looks like I was a a parallel universe. I have so much (bad) to say about our experiece that I just going to bullet them, but before that, let me sumarize. We are not new on cruises, we have done 2 royal caribbeans and one celebrity, so disney magic was our 4th (I'm 37, my wife 73 and my daughter 3). We are allways sad at the fourth day of our cruises becase the cruise is going to end in 3 days. We really love to cruise and we never expected to fell like we felt on our disney magic (on our 3rd day we just wanted to end it, but we still had 4 more days of disney nightmare): a) I started suspectig something was wrong when I received this poorly designed kind of checkbook on a small envelope as for the tickets and papers needed. With the other cruises you always receive a good content package.book, nicely presented and lot of information. So I asked myself. we are paying much more than a regular cruise, we should receive at least something similar or better, not what we got !! b) embarcation, took us like 2 hours to embark, we received a small paper with the number 6 to be called. And had to wait. We didn't like it. On top of that I had to park my car on a open garage, under the sun and weather. c) we enter and we were redirected to the topsider buffet and we were shocked by the small area, bad view of the ocean, low ceilling with scraped paint (I have photos). Of couse, no place to sit, it was full. and worst of all, the food. greasse, tasteless, no much options to choose from (lot of macarrone and cheese) the bread was not fresh at all. Really REALLY DISAPONTED at this point. d) the room attendant was like he never has done a bed before. He did not chaned the soap or shapoo, you would leave an empty soda from the pool over the room table and after he clean you will see it on the same place. e) stained rugs all over the ship. Our bathroom had even darkened grout between tiles (i have photos of all). f) disney style lines for evething!!! e) the dinnig and luch food was realllyyy tasteless and poor. We were even served instant mashed potatoes. And if you had miss this tasteless eating window (1 1/2 hours) your only opitons is burgers, hotdogs, pizzas and something called goofe cafe with really bad wraps and sandwiches (and some fruits) f) this is suppose to ne a family cruise, with something to do for everyone, well I never saw that. g) the breakfast, same story food whise, we tried both, buffet and sit on the restaurant. same thing :( h) the pool is really small (this is suposse to be for kids and families, why on earth as to be so small). And on top of that looked really dirty. i) the elevators are so small that some families has to break their party to be able to go that way (thank good we are just 3 and no stroller ;) ) it is really sad, this was the most expensive cruise we have done. and the worst. We feel robed. we pay for a high quality experience and we received instant potatoes. I love disney (we have my annual disney park pass, and we go there 1 or twice a month. we love it), I dont know what happend here but we hated the cruise :( Again, I'm amazed of all the good reviews, but what can I say. As per my cruise standards, this was awfull and we are not going to step a foot on DCL ever

An okay cruise by ChrisL8

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Disney Magic / Destination: Mexico

The ship itself was very nice. I would have enjoyed the cruise more if my 18 year old daughter was not constantly getting kicked out of 18 and older coffee shops, lounges and pools because she did not look 18, even though she would have her ship ID card stating that she was, in fact, 18. Also, adults like slides too! There is an age limit for the slide so I wasn't able to go down it, even though I was actually within the weight limit!
