Carnival Legend by KarenK15

Ship: Carnival Legend / Destination: Caribbean - Western

We have been on 5 of Carnival ships and this was the best so far. It is a very smooth ship, you hardly knew you were moving, it is pretty gaudy, but you get used to it after the first few days. You can easily rack up $1,000 on your sail and sign card. Everytime you turn around there is something they want your money for...pictures, drinks, espresso. Drinks are not cheap. Average about $5.50-$8.00 per drink plus they include tax and gratuity automatically so it's even more.

Great time by Candi36131305

Ship: Carnival Legend / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Room was great! Food was great! Service was great! Excursions were good. Be sure to go to the orientation things on the various ports. They save a lot of time and frustration when you get there. Warning: Don't count on Costa Maya for souvenirs. We did and were disappointed by prices, selection, and vendor aggression.

Nonstop pampering by Danny

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Legend / Destination: Caribbean - Western

We sailed the Western Caribbean on the Carnival cruise ship "Legend". The previous three ships could not compare to the "luxuriousness" of the "Legend".This ship was like being on land (with the exception of one day of rough seas) and sleeping in until 9am was most relaxing. There must be a "sleep potion" sprayed on the bed prior to our returning to the cabin in the evening. I have never slept so peacefully. The dining room staff and cabin staff were top shelf. None of our requests was refused. Getting on and off the ship was like walking through the front door of your home. Wait time was minimal and the traffic flow was very smooth.

The ship was clean, plenty of space in the cabins, excellent staff service. Decor was overdone. Food & entertainment dissapointing.

Wonderfll cruise by JudyA5

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Carnival Legend / Destination: Caribbean - Western

the ship is 5 years old, looking a little warn, but what do you expect with 200+ people sailing each week. The decor was wonderful, based on legends of all kinds from Olympus to movie stars. The casino had penny slots, yes penny slots...the food was excellent and the service in the cabin, dining, rooms, and lounges were excellent the shows were not up to the Carnival standard, don't know if it was the beginning or end of their contract, but it showed Going out of Tampa was excellent, the value parking was well worth the extra money. Can't wait to go on my next cruise.....

Expect the Mediocre by TasmeenS

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Legend / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The ship is what you would expect from a Carnival ship, overly done Vegas style decor with a focus on selling you something. Be prepared to be solicited every step of the way. Not all of the deals are bad but the constant selling can get annoying. The rooms on the ship are nice for the price you pay. And the room stewards service the room twice a day (or more if you want) and leave you cutsie towel animals for entertainment. It's a nice little feeling. For non-organized activities, there is gambling, sun-bathing, dipping in the pool (they are not big enough to swim) or the gym. TV has sattelite reception but the choices are limited. Organized activities are geared towards those who want to sit on a couch and play Bingo or those who want to make fools of themselves on the Lido deck with "belly flop" like contests. I was looking for something more in-between like dance lessons or pilates (which was offerred once during the entire cruise for an "additional nominal fee). The food was pretty good in the dining room and the wait staff were friendly and hospitable. Try the melting chocolate caks, it's to die for. The lido deck casual dining was great at lunch but poor at dinner. There weren't a lot of options for dinner and the stuff that was there looked like things the lunch left over. The staff were all very friendly and nice to be around. Overall, the ship is a decent value for what you pay for (we got it on a good sale) but don't expect first class.

Carnival Legend: A Great Cruise! by TomR8

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Legend / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The layout of the ship makes for easy navigation: forward to aft and between decks. Never any trouble getting an elevator. Very tasteful decor, lots of ceramic tiles, mosaics, classical artwork, and deep, rich colors. This ship seemed to have more outside deck space than any I've sailed on (and this is my 15th cruise). The ship is very clean and very well maintained. Although there were 2,500 passengers, it rarely seemed crowded. Highlights: the plexiglass stairway to the reservations-only restaurant at the base of the funnel, the multi-level gym, the espresso bar on deck 2, and the beautiful interiors. (You'll see a lot of urns, but its not too much.) One odd thing: no deck chairs on the promenade deck - what a waste of space. We docked next to the Carnival Valor, which did have seating on the exterior promenade. This wouldn't prevent us from cruising again on the Legend or other ships in the Spirit-class. Debarkation: If you have an early flight, or just want to get off the ship ASAP, take adavantage of the self-assist debarkation - you carry your own luggage off. There was a huge line, but once it got started (around 8:00 a.m.) it moved very quickly. We were in a cab on the way to the airport by 8:10 - we had a 10:55 a.m. flight, but were able to change it and got home 2 hours earlier than originally scheduled.

Better than Expected! by EricaM1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Carnival Legend / Destination: Caribbean

The ship is nicely decorated. There is plenty of music and live entertainment everything from a guitar player in the Casino, to piano player in the lounge, and shows. They were all better than average, and much better than I had seen on previous cruises. During the day, the pool on the Lido deck was great. Plenty of food and choices for every taste. Drink service was great. The ship was completly booked and everything came fast with a smile. For families with small children the babysitting service is great. The facilities are clean and the girls were really friendly. They also provide a beeper to locate you if your child wants you. My son is picky ,and he'll never stay with anyone without a fuss, but I was able to enjoy a few evenings with my husband due to this service.

Wishy-Washy Legend by VeronicaA1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Legend / Destination: Caribbean - Western

We recently traveled to Panama, Costa Rica and Belize aboard the Carnival Legend. It was an 8 night cruise with only one partial day in each port. Needless to say, we had a lot of "sea" time. The ship itself was beautiful - like a Vegas hotel. But, like that, it was all smoke and mirrors. Let's start with the FOOD - In the main dining area was passable, at best. The steaks ordered the first night out were grey and tough. The options were limited and the taste on par with a cheap family restaurant. Not at all what I expected. The food in the cafeteria style dining room was even less palatable - assuming you could fight your way through the crowd and then, by some miracle, find a seat without doing multiple laps around the dining area. And the coffee - Forget about it. The only decent coffee to be found had to be purchase for a "nominal fee" of about $4.50 (before the automatic 15% gratuity) at the "cafe". The only decent food we had was in the "private" dining room which cost us an extra $30 per person. And private? It was the upper floor of the cafeteria area so while it wasn't "public", you were open to that area. The food and service in the supper club was outstanding, however, and the service was fabulous as well. Now, speaking of service - Carnival charges gratuities to you automatically. All food/bar service - 15% automatically. Doesn't matter if it's a soda, a cocktail or a cup of coffee. And, they also charge you $10 per person per day for service gratuities. This is split between the waiters, the steward, etc. On the surface, it seems reasonable and kind of handy. Until you realize that the staff knows they're getting tips regardless of the service. And it shows. So, what to do for 5 "at sea" days? Well, there's the smoke-filled casino (thankfully one of the few places smoking was alowed inside) where you can spend money, there's the art auction where you can spend more money, there's the spa which charged $110 for a manicure/pedicure that I could get at home for $40, there's all the shops where you can spend more money, oh and don't forget BINGO which was $10 - $20 per pop, not to mention the scratchoff tickets they were selling. There are the multitude of bars. And for the kids, there's the arcade which charges double what you'd pay on land for each game. If you want to avoid shelling out a lot of extra cash, well, you can get up really early and go stake out a spot by the pool. If you don't have your spot by 9:30 am - forget it. You're relegated to the shade. The pools were small and very crowded. Free shows - pretty much only at night. Otherwise, the best you could hope for was a lecture on where to spend your $ in port. There was one Hairy Chest contest, an ice carving exhibition and some allegator wrestling on the Lido deck - all at the same conflicting times, of course. The only saving grace were the ports of call. We were able to get on / off ship pretty easily and our tour guides were well organized and informative. We particularly loved the Offroad Excursion in Limon, Costa Rica. By the end of my cruise, trapped as many days on a ship filled with less then enthusiastic staff and, for the most part, loud partiers with little concern or respect for fellow passengers, I was about to jump. I stayed in my room. I could have done that at home. Next time - I'll fly.

Absoulute wonderful cruise! by Todd156438967

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Legend / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The ship is absoulutely beautiful. The rooms were great. They were cleaned perfectly twice a day. The stewards were very friendly. Our servers addressed us by name everytime they say us in or out of the restaurant! That was amazing to me. The pool was especially nice because it had a large overflow area the you could sit at and be wet but not totally in the pool. The dancers and singers were great. The shows were very proffessional with great music, choreography and costumes. The food was very good. The only trouble we had was that 3 of the 4 dryers were not working after I washed a load of clothes. I truly regret doing that. But other than that it was a fabulous experience.

We had a ball by MarleneB

Ship: Carnival Legend / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

This was our 5th cruise. Our first time on Carnival and I must say I was impressed. We had a great time. Our ship was the legend. The rooms were nice, bathrooms had good lighting and were good sized. We had a room with an obstructed view with a french door that could open and it was fine. The food was good and the service was superb. We will definitely consider cruising Carnival again.

the carnival ledgend is abeautiful ship by any standards.however after two cruises on rccl the food and entertainment were disapointing.I was ready to get off after 5 days of an eight day cruise . I seemed the crew was doing the bare min. not going the extra mile ,mabey because the gratuities come off first thing and they know it.

We were impressed at the beauty and cleanliness of the Legend as soon as we stepped on board! It has far more "stuff" than the other ships we've cruised on, couldn't believe the 3 pools, either!

Super Cruise to St. Kitts by DaveM5

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Legend / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

The Legend is a bit older than the Liberty which was my last ship. It looked it. Rust here and there. Inside was nice and clean and looked great. Not as "over the top" in interior decorating as some ships like the Miracle.

More than I ever expected by JoyceB7

Ship: Carnival Legend / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

I was very pleasantly surprised at the beauty of the ship. I just couldn't stop looking around in awe at everything. The whole staff was so pleasant and treated us so good. They made our vacation extra special. We had such a wonderful time and the food was out of this world. I would certainly recommend this ship to everyone considering a cruise vacation. We can't wait for our next cruise with Carnival.
