Carnival Legend

Sail Date: May 06, 2007

Reviewed: 9 years ago

Traveled As: Family w/older children

Room Type: Balcony

We have been on 5 of Carnival ships and this was the best so far. It is a very smooth ship, you hardly knew you were moving, it is pretty gaudy, but you get used to it after the first few days. You can easily rack up $1,000 on your sail and sign card. Everytime you turn around there is something they want your money, drinks, espresso. Drinks are not cheap. Average about $5.50-$8.00 per drink plus they include tax and gratuity automatically so it's even more.

Pros: Ports of call, nice ship, good food

Cons: No other 13 year kids, price of items not included in ship

Recommends Carnival Legend? Yes!

Cabin / Stateroom
We got a balcony cabin for 4 people. 3 adults, 1 child. It was tight but manageable. Would have been better with just 2. Would probably get a suite traveling with 4 again. Our cabin steward was nice but didn't go above and beyond anything expected.
Service and Staff
Average, nothing exceptional or negative
Some shows were very cheesy, some were very good. The juggler dropped balls, the balancer dropped his items.
Children's Programs
They have a great Camp Carnival.....however my son is 13 and no one signed up except him. He wasn't able to do any activities because it was only him. We went the 2nd week of May. I definitely wouldn't take a child 10-17 unless it was during summer break.
Ship Quality
Food and Dining
The food was excellent, the service was lacking though at times. We would continually have to ask for water and bread in the dining room and sometimes our waiter would just disappear for 5-10 min at a time. The buffets were excellent, the lido deck burger and hot dog station was fabulous.
George Town, Grand Cayman
The best thing to do is to swim with the stingrays and snorkel. It was fabulous! Also, don't use carnival for their tours, they charge exactly double the price. You can get right off the ship and the tour operators are there to take you to the same excursion as half the price.
Don't Miss: swimming with stingrays
Cozumel, Mexico
Rent a jeep as soon as you get off the ship and you can drive around the entire island in less than a hour. IT is still pretty devastated by Hurricane Emily in 05. The south end of the Island took a direct hit.
Costa Maya (Mahahual), Mexico
See the Mayan ruins here, no use snorkeling as you should have done that at Grand Cayman or Cozumel. Again, book the tour when you get off the ship and not with the ship. We paid about $40 pp compared to $89 on the ship.
Don't Miss: Mayan ruins
Belize City, Belize
Stunning snorkeling. You have to tender about 5 miles off shore because of the coral reef.
