Relaxing Cruise by AllenD

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Elation / Destination: Mexico

Cruise was well run. They sure push the alcohol and the pictures. This ship was smaller than others I've been on. They offered everything and the day was packed with activities. Night time entertainment was typical for this type of vacation. Rooms are small, beds are comfortable. Cabin service and food service were exceptional.

Slightly overrated by MichaelW14

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Elation / Destination: Mexico

The city bus cost me and my family $2.25/person for fare between the San Diego Airport and the departure harbor - this compared to the $36/person that Carnival would charge for the same service. Why didn't you at least tell me that I could have a cheaper option? I had to find out on my own. From this beginning I realized that Carnival nickel and dimed us for most services - when we were at Cabo San Lucas if we were to go snorkeling for example it would cost us $85/person if we booked it through Carnival. We did go snorkeling and it cost us only $20/person as we booked the services in town. Such a discrepancy on costs of services led me not to trust Carnival. i always got the feeling that the employees were trying to sell us something. Not what i wanted to go through for a vacation that i had to pay more for anyway since it was during a holiday week.

Save your time, Save your money by JoshK

Sail date: /
Ship: Carnival Elation / Destination: Mexico

I have never taken the time to write a review on a vacation I took, but this time I want to write if it means just one person will save their money and avoid this cruise. I am not one who likes to complain but quite honestly this is the worst vacation I've ever taken.

A Great Time! by JodiG1

This was our first vacation without children in 14 years. We had a great time and really enjoyed the staff, especially our waiters and cabin stewards. The games and entertainment on the ship were fun and family friendly.

An "OK" First Cruise. by CarlinaH

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Elation / Destination: Mexico

The ship was always clean, except one part of the ship that did smell a lot (like garbage). The help was amazing, friendly, attentive, and they made the stay even more pleasant. The food was always there, some days the food was better than others, if you get the chance do go the the formal dinner every night- it is better than the cafeteria.

Elation needs a new name it was horrible by AshleyM4

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Elation / Destination: Mexico

Well from the moment I got on the ship I was let down. This is my 8th cruise but we chose Carnival for my 21st birthday. I had never been on this cruise line before and will never again. There was giant chips in the wall tables and these nasty stains everywhere. The food was horrible in Tiffanys. The selection was small, and food was always cold. Every piece of meat I had was undercooked. However the dining room food was wounderful. Drinks where always filled with plenty of alcohol not watered down to bad. The only complaint is that I had to give a credit card to them at the start of the shop to be sure they would have away to charge me. Then when it came down to pay my boyfriend and I split the bill in half and placed them on two diffrent cards. They then charged him 1, my credit card 1 and to much, then charged my debit card 2. So they got to charge me 5 times causing my bank to freeze my account and the cruise took all my money. They yet to take responsibility for this. The staff was helpful but at the end of the cruise we were having one last drink in Dukes bar. I suddenly couldn't breath and turned pale. My boyfriend works with this machine that is call an ozone. It is used to remove smells like smoke from rooms. However they had it running while we were in there. This i should tell you is un safe due to the high amount of peroxide in the air. Also it is illegal to use this machine in CA. When he went to have someone turn it off they said it was safe. It took 4 staff members to finally find one who will turn it off once we mentioned we would report them. All in all it was fun but what person wont try to have fun while on a cruise. I was just let down and for my trouble they could have killed us and the kids who were i the room.

This was our first cruise so I don't really have anything to compare the quality of the ship to. It met our expectations.

Great Cruise! by Angies1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple

All was great on cruise, from the food to the staff, the only thing I did not like was all the extra charges once on the boat but if you're careful then this will not be a problem.

First time cruiser by BarbR5

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group

It was really great, and stafff was always cleaning the ship, Staff was always ready to help you. For, my first time going on a cruise I have to say it was alot of fun, and you always had something to do. I would like to try another cruise someday to Alaska. Also I want to say they did a very nice job on my son's wedding too. They got us off and on the ship really fast and had no trouble.

Fantastic Time by BlancheH

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Elation / Destination: Mexico

My husband and I have been on 2 other cruise lines and I found this (Carnival, Elation) to be my least favorite only in the food department. Everything else was very good. We truly enjoyed the cruise but I, more than my husband, was dissappointed with the food quality, choice quantity, and most of all the limited time in which the buffet was open . There were several hrs. of down time between breakfast, lunch and dinner and the only available food served during those down times were pizza and deli, unless there were other places serving better food that i was unaware of. With that said, I would totally recommend this ship versus the others to the younger crowd (late teens to 30's) It was definitely rocking and rolling and full of life and younger people. Another thing we really appreciated about the ship were the rooms. Our window room was larger than the other ships. So, if you want to just have fun and party, this ship is definitely the one. If food is of great importance, then I would not recommend this ship.

This cruise exceeded my expectations! by JoselitoL

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Elation / Destination: Mexico

This was my fifth cruise. Ive been on Princess, Celebrity and Norwegian Cruise Lines, and this is my first time cruising on Carnival. I had some preconceptions about Carnival that it was a non-stop party cruise line for twenty and thirty something year olds, that the food was so-so, and that there would be hundreds of screaming kids running throughout the ship. However, after cruising for four nights from San Diego to Cabo San Lucas and back, Ill say that my conceptions were wrong and that my experience on Carnival was overall an enjoyable one.

Ok for couples by DavidP1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Carnival Elation / Destination: Mexico

The ship was nice. I was impressed to see a volleyball and basketball setup. However, getting a ball to play with was even more difficult. An employee told me the soccer ball was for employees only. After renting one the previous day, I was baffled. The food was horrible. Entertainment good if you brought your date. If you try to mingle you will end up in a group of elderly folks, or a frat group beer contest. It was at best a C+. Guys, bring a girlfriend or companion onboard. I brought a friend...and thats lets try to meet people the entire cruise. Boring, lazy employees, poor food. Next time I will swim to Cabo.

A good time by TravelerF9

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Carnival Elation / Destination: Mexico

Service was excellent, staff very friendly. The dining room food, although great presentation, lacked a lot of flavor. The breakfast buffet had some very questionable items. Ship and kids camp appeared very clean, although both kids came home sick. My children ages 6 and 10 had a great time and loved the activities they planned. We didn't like that all the adult activities seemed to start so late, ie: the disco didn't open until 11pm. By that time my kids wanted to be on bed. Overall it was a fun trip.

The ship Elation was amazing. It was my first cruise and it was a positive and enjoyable experience. I enjoyed every day at sea and at port. I was impresed with the customer service and communications. It was definetly a First Class vacation.
