first time cruise for my friend ... by laurieshrader

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Carnival Conquest / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

... and it might be her last!  I sang praises of cruising and FINALLY convinced her to go with me.  My suitcase was delivered w/ a broken handle and replacement is so complicated and time consuming (by design, I believe), I will be forced to pay for a new one.  :o(  We went the Steakhouse for dinner and had one dinner; we were charged for two and had to be refunded.  We both signed up for the week of internet and most of the time it was so slow it was almost useless.  She upgraded to the highest quality level and often could not even get any internet access at all!  She went to wash her clothes in the self serve laundry and the machines were broken.  So she decided to send it to the ship's laundry and the cabin steward did not take it as promised.  SHE NEEDED CLEAN CLOTHES so she called a supervisor and they said they would "take care of it".  She was billed $57 at the end of the cruise to wash one partial bag of clothes.  We ordered room service and it took THREE tries to get what we ordered (one thing was still wrong but we gave up trying).  One electrical outlet (for USA plug electrics) IS NOT ENOUGH in today's world for two people.  Laptops, cell phones, dive computers, ipads, ipods, razors, etc. is a horrible inconvenience.  Which do we not charge???  There used to be a little chocolate on the pillow of each bed every night; where did they go?  There used to be a very popular passenger talent show; where did that go?  Food was pretty good; Guy's Burgers was every day fare for lunch; those are great.  I was charged for photo purchases and I didn't even have any photos taken ever!  It took me three visits before I got those charges reversed!  The ports were great and we enjoyed the excursions.  I have been on dozens of cruises over the last 40 years and this was the worst one to date.  I don't think I will every convince my best friend to give it another chance ...  Very disappointed!  Expected much more from Carnival Cruises.  :o(

Birthday Carnival Cruise by garyanne

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Conquest / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

My husband Gary, his sister, her husband and I were sailing for my husband's birthday cruise. It was a great cruise and great ports.  The cruise director Josh was wonderful and we really enjoyed his tribute to and about the veterans.  His history lessons were wonderful.  He is a wonderful cruise director.  The shows were pretty good.  I have seen better shows on other Carnival ships.  I missed you having an orchestra.  That seems to make the shows better.  The special effects were amazing.  I just suggest that you get a band and do more 50 and 60's nightly shows.  There are alot of people in their sixties like my husband and I that really enjoy the songs from that era.  Thanks again for a great price and a wonderful cruise.Love

Cruising Fun by elizabethsimone

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Conquest / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

Always our first choice for a fun cruise.  Food is good, service is excellent and the fun abounds.  Meeting new people and making new friends is great.  Going to different ports lets you get to know new places without committing to a whole weeks vacation in just one place.

Carnival Cutbacks are noticeable by UncleCheek

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Carnival Conquest / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

This being our 5th cruise (all with Carnival), we were able to notice the cutbacks, The American Table menu in the main dining room leaves something to be desired. My observation was that the fine food that previously was served to all was now perhaps in the Specialty restaurants. Also missed which were available before were LIVE bands for shows, VIFP party which included Gold, and the chocolates left by room stewards when they did turn down. We have already discussed choosing a different cruise line for our next trip because of different itineraries and we want to feel like we got a good value for our money.

Conquest vacation by joshuaepreece

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Conquest / Destination: Caribbean - Western

For a quick summary review I will say that overall my experience was good.

Pros:

The staff was super friendly regardless of housekeeping or the bartenders, to the entertainment staff.

Cleanliness was 5 star rating for me.  Our room was always kept up very clean and no complaints there.

The entertainment was great, many fun things to see, and do during the sea days.

Ports of call were great and the excursions was easy to locate, and book.

CONS:

The food is somewhat bland.  I have traveled with carnival in the past and I will have to say that the food has declined somewhat.  With this being said, the burger joint was A+.

At first when leaving port, it felt like the ship was always running late, completing the drills, and being on time.  However we were on time at each port.

I feel that carnival should have a children policy, no young child under 16 should be allowed to "Roam" the boat all hours of the night.....but where are the parents.....this was annoying.

The casino employees (suit and tie) not the dealers, were somewhat rude.  When my girlfriend hit a jackpot on a slot machine she was treated very rude by them.  She was questioned multiple times about what the machine did when the jackpot hit, how much she bet, was it in the bonus round when it hit...etc.  Keep in mind she had NEVER gambled before or even played a slot machine.  So she was very intimidated and upset at the way she was treated.  She said it made her feel like a  criminal.

Alcoholic drinks were just too high.  $10.00 for a mixed drink with a 15% gratuity on top of it made it just ridiculous.  I already paid $71 for all gratuities then paying an additional on each drink.  I felt like that was a little much.  That was my personal biggest complaint.

Overall the trip was great, every trip has pros and cons, but I'm being as honest as I can to help carnival keep returning customers.

Nice Cruise but with a few challenges!! by seashoredad499

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Conquest / Destination: Caribbean - Western

All of the ship personnel (room attendants, wait staff in restaurant and buffet, and bar personnel) are to be commended for EXCELLENT service and always being helpful & courteous.

Actual food - not bad but never HOT!!

Very poor communications by ship personnel who handled the debarkation process.  We were scheduled to debark early (#2) and there was no announcement by ship personnel??  Why??  A fellow traveler came to the theater where we were waiting (this was the appropriate place given to us to wait) and told us they had started earlier.  Poor Poor Poor

carnival conquest by seaya408

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Conquest / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Very nice cruise.  It would be nice if Carnival added a daytime movies while at Sea Days. Also change the menu as I just got off an 11 day cruise with Carnival and the food was the same week after week.

All Icing but No Cake by Cruiser733

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Carnival Conquest / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Disappointing at best. My brother & his wife had raved about past Carnival cruises they had taken so I joined them on this one. We had a group of 25 people & Carnival screwed up the dinner seating & instead of being at adjoining or nearby tables, they randomly put us in different dining rooms!!  We never got shipboard credit we were promised or gifts from that were arranged. The FOOD for the most part was horrible:  powdered eggs; dried out day-old pastries; 1/2 baked potatoes; unchewable prime rib; watery shrimp cocktail, etc. Only good food was Carnival's signature melted chocolate dessert & Guy Fiero hamburgers & Mexican food + lobster in $35 extra steak house dinner. The food looked great in the buffet areas, but did not taste great. I think they scrimped on the ingredients & used powdered eggs, margarine or Crisco instead of butter. Hardly anything tasted as good as it looked, hence my assessment of "All Icing but No Cake." Very very disappointing. Besides bad or mediocre food, the service was poor or non-existent; the ship needs a good cleaning & staff were over-worked, tired & unfriendly. I never even met the cabin steward until 4 days into cruise!  Try another ship!!!

Fun time and great ports by Happycruising

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Conquest / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Our family of 4 just returned and had a fun time. Although Port Everglades is a horrible, disorganized port, this wasn't Carnivals fault. The ship was fine and very clean. We stayed on deck 1 Riviera mid ship and enjoyed a very quiet room with minimal rocking. Our cabin was clean well maintained and had room for 4 of us with bunks and a king bed. It was so convenient to everything on ship. Staff was very pleasant and tried hard to please. Shows were good but music in public areas was nothing special except for Dolce Trio, 3 women who played violins and cello, they were excellent. We liked all of the ports very much and there was something to do for everyone. We booked our own excursions or just explored on our own, very easy to do. Our only complaint was the food selection and quality and service in the main dining room. Our servers were not as good as on previous carnival cruises and were difficult to understand. Service was ok and some nights food arrived cold. However you won't go hungry as the pizza place, Guys Burgers and Blue Iguana all serviced delicious food. Icecream machine was great too. Overall another very good cruise. This isn't 5 star but you aren't paying 5 star prices either and get a lot of quality for the money spent.

conquest by kkbgranada

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Conquest / Destination: Caribbean - Western

My wife and I took her parents on this cruise.  We have been cruising since we got married in 1985.  We have cruised at least once a year and quite a few years we cruised twice a year.  Mostly with Carnival.  Why they don't recognize that, I'm not sure.  Not really that important but I am curious about it.  In fact, we are leaving on another one out of Tampa in just a few days.

The service was outstanding as usual from the cabin stewart to the waiters in the dining room.  We had a table issue and the maitre'd got us to sit together after the first night, also above and beyond because it wasn't carnivals fault but our travel agent's fault.  The cruise director was one of the best we've had.  Very interactive with the passengers.   Just a fun person and he really acted like he enjoyed his job.  You can tell when someone likes what they do and he definitely does.

I own my own business and I appreciate when people tell me what's good about what we do.  In 38 years of owning my business I have had less than 3 complaints.  I have 11 employees and I stress good service.  My wife and I appreciate your employees and their work ethic, generosity, kindness and eagerness to please.  Thank you so much for a great time.

Great service by donnalouiserobe

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Carnival Conquest / Destination: Caribbean - Western

We were treated very well from embarkation to debarkation.  Our room service was great, our dining room service was great.  More than we expected.  The ship was a bit outdated, but well kept.  The spa, especially Chanel, Kristine and Charlotte, made the trip relaxing and enjoyable.

Carnival decline in guest experience by dkglover

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Conquest / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Our recent Carnival Conquest cruise was a big disappointment given our previous sailing experiences. First, the entertainment on the ship has slipped to substandard levels, major productions have been cut to 1/2 hour productions, they incorporated a "Hasbro" night that smacked of nothing but cheap. Despite the large majority of "baby boomers" aboard the ship they moved to a 1980 plus entertainment focus. They experienced technical problems that cut short one production nite. Their food selection at the dining room experience has been downgraded unless you wanted to pay a premium for higher grade items. All in all, I am questioning why we would ever cruise with Carnival again.

THE ISSUES THAT WERE WRONG WITH THIS CRUISE by doublej1954

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Carnival Conquest / Destination: Caribbean - Western

THIS WAS MY FIRST CRUISE ON THE CARNIVAL AND UNFORTUNATELY I WAS QUITE DISAPPOINTED AS I NEVER WENT ON A CRUISE WHERE YOU HAD TO WAIT TWO HOURS TO GET ON THE SHIP AS THEY WERE HAVING PROBLEMS.  FIRST OF ALL, I DO NOT THINK MY ROOM WAS COMPLETELY CLEANED AS THERE WAS A SHOE UNDER MY BED THAT WAS FROM A PREVIOUS TRAVELER. I NEVER WENT ON A CRUISE WHERE WE ARE OUT AT SEA FOR TWO DAYS AND THE STORES ARE UNDER RENOVATION. ON TUESDAY, THE MAIN POOL IS EMPTY FOR OVER A DAY. THAT IS UNACCEPTABLE. THE FOOD IN THE DINING WAS OKAY BUT I DID NOT EXPECT FOR THEM TO FORGET TWO OF OUR APPETIZERS AND COFFEE.  I MAY TRY ANOTHER TIME BUT NOT TO SURE IF IT IS WORTH IT.

Fun in Florida... by bowendarrell

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Carnival Conquest / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The time on the cruise was wonderful. spending time with friends is always Special. We as a group try to cruise together at least  every other year. WE usually have a group larger than 7 that has a very wide range of ages. We always disembark and shop and do an excursion.

This is our second time on the conquest. A wonderful ship and the crew has always been outstanding, above and beyond when it comes to service. The dinning room staff is GREAT and housekeeping is always friendly and polite.Big Smile

Carnival conquest by tapangel66

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Carnival Conquest / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

Ship was ok...a lot of older people, which I'm not used to on a carnival cruise! The fun shops were closed for renovation!!!! Our waiter was nice but definately did not have much interaction with us or make dinners memorable!! No chocolates left at night, also no little complimentary items in bathroom and since fun shops closed, could not purchase any necessary items if needed!! Aruba beautiful!! Had some excellent and fun bartenders!! Not my favorite cruise ship but was fun!

DISAPPOINTMENT by mpascucci622

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Conquest / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

Disappointing.  After cruising on this ship I am uncertain as to whether I will ever cruise again..CryingSadSadSad  The entertainment and the dining experience are supposed to be two of the highlights of cruising,,Both were way below expectations on this cruise.

The dining staff and service staff were commendable but one gets the feeling that as hard as they work, the company is expecting them to do more with less.

According to ship policy if pool chairs are left unattended for more than 4o minutes towels will be removed..this certainly is not enforced and people have a sense of entitlement because they know they can get away with tagging a chair at 6a.m. and then going about their business and leaving THEIR "toweled chaIr"

empty and other people wandering around with no place to sit...Why have a policy if not enforced?????

Horrible comedian by chrisjessen00

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Conquest / Destination: Caribbean - Southern

Food was fairly good, entertainment was ok,  The comedian azeem was the most despicable person have ever seen.He made half of his act out of making fun of overweight people in the audience, people in power chairs, and white people that apparently have small genitalia compared to his.  I would hope he never makes it on a ship again or for that matter every on a stage again.I was disgusted by his act and so were others in the room.

Overall an ok cruise, but the locations that we stopped on were beautiful.Aruba, curasau, grand Turk.
