Our first cruise and we always said the only way we would do a cruise would be to Alaska. Well that wasn't bad at all and have taken 2nd one through the canal since. It is little wonder people do the Alaskan cruise multiple times. Holland American picked the right port stops and glacier cruises and we give it a 5 star experience.
Embarkation
4 out of 5
Little bit of a wait, but boarded on time and the luggage made it.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
5 out of 5
Meet expectations and exceeded in the restaurants. Drinks well made and not overly priced.
Onboard Activities
4 out of 5
Sports decks and the fitness center was excellent. Note the Lido pool was out of action for 3 days, did not use but should be noted.
Entertainment
4 out of 5
Musicians, DJs, dance shows, comedians all great.
Children's Programs
no children in group and there was about less than 20 kids under 15 on the boat.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
Our stewards were awesome. Food service was great, waiters great. Even the deck hands, maintenance, bridge personnel were friendly and helpful. Security was not so much but I would not expect them to be bubbly and smiley.
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
Common areas constantly cleaned, rooms in shipshape, dining areas clean. Decks and layout easy to get around.
Cabin / Stateroom
5 out of 5
Perfect size, plenty of closet space and hangers. Bathroom more than adequate. One comment is there is only one electric outlet for either US or Europe in the main stateroom. Bring a power strip.
Ship tip
There is a DVD player in the room, bring DVDs or check them out on board. Take advantage of the 1 bottle of wine per passenger embarkation. No self service laundry available, there is a $20/bag service available.
Have spent weeks in Seattle visiting and business and never get tired of it. Always something new on every trip, this time the Amazon store and the Spheres.
Quaint town, full of jewelry shops (they were in the process moving to the Caribbean for the winter. Toured the town, the salmon were at the end of their run, the rivers were cog with fish.
Cruised into a narrow Fjord and this big ship was maneuvering like a Boston Whaler. Lots of icebergs with some of the bluest ice in the spectrum. Could not get real close to the glacier due to small boats blocking the path.
What is that big ship on dry land in the middle of town? Star of Kodiak is an active cannery. Fun town to walk around. Kodiak Maritime Museum is a good visit.
Drizzle and rain, it would not be Victoria if it wasn't. Tour a nice boat tour in the passage and harbor. Watched Seahawks/Broncos game in a great english pub full of Seahawks fans.
Nice review! We're hoping things are back to 100% normal when we cruise on the Zaandam next March. It was the first cruise ship we were on back in 2006
