Beautiful Hawaii Cruise by sjwilson3883

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Ruby Princess / Destination: Panama Canal, Central America

Loved the long days at sea! Our excursion was terrific! But compared to the Norwegian Cruise Line I really suffered food wise which was disappointing because on a Princess Alaska Cruse they knew all about Celiac Disease and I had no problems.

Love Ruby Princess by gijill2

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Ruby Princess / Destination: Hawaii

I love going on cruises. I did notice difference in service. Seems like there was less people trying to do a large job. It’s showing in their service. The workers seemed worn out. Still friendly but worn out

Could have been better by wesail

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Ruby Princess / Destination: Hawaii

Would have been better if we flew. Have been on much better ships. The Sky is our choice. The Ruby is an older ship. The outside showed signs of major rust which was ugly. Didn’t start painting til Honolulu. It was unsightly to look at in port and reflected the cruise line

Fun & Games with Mother Nature by donrafferty

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Ruby Princess / Destination: Alaska

As a whole it was an enjoyable trip with some interesting things to do. For us being on the ship for 10 nights was a bit long (we will focus on the 4 to 7 night cruises from now on) but I spoke to many that loved it.

First-Cruise Stress! First-Cruise Ahhhh! by Conmaker

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Ruby Princess / Destination: Alaska

Well, after this first-cruise experience, I think it says a lot that my wife and I have booked another cruise with Princess. We might be hooked on the cruising, and Princess has a lot to do with this feeling.

Great crew but Ruby shows her age by jeanabean

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Ruby Princess / Destination: Alaska

The food isn't necessarily a deal breaker for me but I do hope they are able to improve the quality. Powdered eggs in the dining room is simply unacceptable and I don't feel like anyone should have to request real eggs. At least I didn't gain any weight.

A bit of a letdown, but still a great time. by bbryant64

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Ruby Princess / Destination: Alaska

Embarkation in SFO was absurd. We waited in a 2 hour line just to get in the terminal. Not sure if this is Princess or the Port Authority, but this isn't an issue we've seen at other ports. From what I've read, ours was not a one-off experience. Ruby is a bit dated. The couch in our room was run down and not very comfortable. We will remember going forward, to avoid lower deck balcony rooms because the upper decks are recessed so that they can look down into your balcony. (not good) Bed was 'okay' but is showing signs of wear. I thought the public areas were in good shape for the most part. Based on our previous sailings with Princess - the bar for 'service' is pretty high. I've read a lot of complaints that Ruby is way understaffed and the service was terrible - I didn't find this to be the case, though I would say they did not meet their usual standard. This was most evident in the Horizon Court areas where getting drinks / refills was a daily struggle. I would also say that in general - the crew seemed less engaged and less warm that we are used to. Our cabin attendant was excellent as was our wait staff at dinner. This was our 4th sailing to Alaska and the first time we've had bad weather. Fog and rain made Icy Strait, Juneau and Glacier Bay kind of a downer - the latter in particular was disappointing. Missed out on some amazing scenery. Obviously, not Princess fault. Oddly, the one place we expect rain (Ketchikan) was absolutely beautiful. Saw some scenery here we hadn't seen before. We had a lovely weather day in Prince Rupert as well. The crew is all masked - but apart from that I didn't see much attention to Covid protocols. No visible sanitizing going on and I was a bit surprised to see self serve at the buffet. There was no communication from Princess about how many or if there were any were any Covid cases on board. We aren't mask nazis, but wore them in public areas out of an abundance of caution. Medallion Class is a brilliant idea, but it's not quite ready. Some features don't work or refer you elsewhere. Integration with the App on the TV still needs work. Love being able to order drinks / food and have it delivered anywhere. The technology is limited by dismal connection quality. Look for this to improve over the next few years. Despite the minor disappointments, we still had a great time.

Didn't live up to expectations by chillbren

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Ruby Princess / Destination: Alaska

There was a lot of covid cases on board. We had very close exposure and was never informed by the staff. We self reported and had to initiate our own isolation and testing. We would have been allowed to roam freely through the ship even knowing our exposure level.

Terribly run ship by Phxbutch

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Ruby Princess / Destination: Alaska

This is my first Princess cruise and my 15th overall. I won’t be sailing with Princess any time soon. This trip was disappointing on so many levels but the overall ship management, poor food quality and Lack of adequate staff will keep me sailing with Celebrity or Royal.

Great Time in Alaska by Marcia19

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Ruby Princess / Destination: Alaska

Although we have been on many cruises, this was the first since COVID, so we were unsure about any changes. Although we did notice a few cutbacks, Princess has tried to keep those to a minimum in unimportant areas.

Great to be Sailing by SusanCruzin

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)

Alaska is always beautiful, but the service on Princess has diminished. When we ordered a drink with a meal, we were often served when we were finished eating. Wait staff tried but they were disorganized.

Beautiful Alaskan cruise by ullamist

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Ruby Princess / Destination: Alaska

Very nice cruise with the following exceptions: For some reason the medallion technology just didn't work. Although it opened the door consistently--that was about it. Finding friends via the app worked about 25 % of the time. The app crashed constantly--went to the guest services area about once a day to fix problems (so did everyone else in our group). Some days couldn't reserve dining. Drinks came about half the time when ordered (took 1 1/2 hours to get drinks delivered on 2 occasions). Got the feeling that they were very short staffed. The other issue that was very frustrating was that we were unable to get any specialty dining reservations once on the ship--all booked up. Some staff on board told us that not all specialty dining was open daily due to staffing shortages.
