Alaska Hubbard Glacier 7 night by bylesfj

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Oosterdam / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

We booked a cabin with "ocean view" that looked into the center bottom of a life boat.  Had to pay considerable more to actually get an "ocean view".  Be aware you get charged $13.50 per person per day to have a cabin and they charge $3.95 + tax to have a bottle of drinking water in your cabin.  Staff was good but management was not.  Food was OK and scenery was great.  Will use a different Cruise Line next time.

Very satisfying experience by etong

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Oosterdam / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

Kudos to the Holland America crew who make our trip very satisfying, relaxed and enjoyable.  Excellent value for money!

Crews are friendly and service is warm and courteous.  Scenery is picture perfect.  Weather was good. Everything was excellent.  I don't think I can ask for more on this trip, even though I did not catch a halibut on my excursion (but the weather was so nice and beautiful while fishing!)

Cruise ship room from hell by floridafrequent

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Oosterdam / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

was the worse travel agent I have ever used.  Our balcony room had bugs and the bathroom was dirty and the sink was full of large cracks and the tub had cracks all along the top with the worse tub ring I have ever seen. The only other room they would offer us was three floors down and the balcony overlooked the lifeboat!

Alaska cruise by LastAlaska

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Oosterdam / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

The food was superior and the service great.  A bit of a problem was understanding the broken English of the staff but all were very nice.  Did not like the push to spend more and more and the gratuities inflicted.  Directions on the ship are terrible and no one was around to ask directions when needed.  The Neptune lounge was the about the best part of the ship.  However, the on board entertainment was terrific.

Hubbard Glacier was a huge disappointment.  Staff said the ship would get close enough to turn ship side to side for excellent viewing.  However, it did not get close enough and was stationary the whole time.  I saw it once before on another cruise line and it went up very close, etc.

Bueatiful views!! by cdalziel

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Oosterdam / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

This was a visually stunning cruise. Alaska is truly one of the most bueatiful places in the world. The oosterdam is a nice ship and Holland does a great job with its food and show entertainment. My wife and I are in our early 40's so we knew going in Holland would setup its shows with a little older crowd in mind based on what I was told However i wish they would have some more entertainment for the slightly younger crowd. That being said everything was really nice and I would cruise again with Holland .

Fun by sharesalarsen

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Oosterdam / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

This is a fun cruise.  If you are gluten free the food is a little difficult for breakfast and lunch, but great for dinner. The string quartet and pianist were awesome, and every show they were in was great.  The excursions on shore were great and I highly enjoyed the sled dog in Junea.

Ship: Oosterdam / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

When I and my husband got on the ship, we were so happy. Because , every thing is so beautiful , clean, the staffs all are smile . The hall way's pictures are different at each level ,some they tell you story about this ship,Oosterdam. some they display the america's history on the sea.

I have to say , the food is very very good. The tea, the coffee and hot water always there service for you.  we were enjoyed every thing we can. many things to see, do not want to sleep, but have to do it.  It was very good experience . I just want  travel with cruse again.

Our Second Alaskin Cruise by Cruiser40481447

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Oosterdam / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

Scenery and on-shore excursions was the best part of the trip. Least liked part of the trip was the banging overhead in our cabin in less than calm seas. It was related to me by our steward as just the wind. I surmised it to be an unlatched bathroom door in cabin above us and had to tell the crew above to check it out. Problem solved. We were very lucky with weather being beautiful in mid-May!

Oustanding service and beautiful itinerary by rayealpsu

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Oosterdam / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

We loved sailing the Oosterdam and the crew provided exceptional service!

Everyone we met was friendly and warm.  Our balcony stateroom exceeded expectation in terms or space, amenities and views.  I was so surprised at the quality of the linens and the size of the bathroom!

Dining was good and specialized dining was exceptional.  The Casino, Lido Deck, and Crow's Nest bar were a lot of fun.  The Gallery Bar was my favorite spot and really elevated the experience.  The barmen in the Gallery Bar were tops.

We had services at the Greenroom Spa and those were outstanding.  Each therapist was phenomenal and far exceeded our expectations.  Who knew that one of the very best massages I'd ever have was on a ship with a view!  One missing amenity in the spa was slippers and larger-than-average robes.  On my second visit to the spa, my robe wouldn't fit and that's embarrassing.  Considering I am about the size of an average cruiser, that really surprised me.  I also forgot to pack slippers/sandals because I didn't plan to visit the spa. So, it required that I wear my boots or go barefoot.  The barefoot option seemed to be what most people took, but that is pretty dangerous on a ship.  I am surprised the line doesn't consider this to be a potential risk/liability from a health and safety perspective.

Journey's Ashore were nice and well-timed.

Our cruise was very enjoyable overall.

I wish I could award a half a star, but alas, this cruise misses one star because of the erratic climate in our stateroom.  For days 1-4, it was easily 80-82 degrees in our stateroom and there's placard discouraging propping the balcony door open, so we didn't do that often.  Sleeping was hard.

We finally complained and then days 5-7 were about 60-65 degrees in our stateroom.  When we addressed it with guest services and our steward, nothing changed.  There was a thermostat in the cabin, but I think it was just for show.

Needless to say, we never felt really comfortable while in our cabin.

Lastly, embarking and disembarking were a breeze and we were so pleasantly surprised by how well things went.

Minus a few small things, we'd definitely sail with HAL again.

Had a wonderful time, the trip to Alaska was amazing, the service was excellent, the sites were breath taking.  The Glacier was phenomenal, and the crab fest excursion was phenomenal.  Saw a gray whale and humpback.  It was amazing.

Relaxing Vacation with Beautiful Scenery by kiwikathy1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Oosterdam / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

The crew members were amazing - so personable and caring.

I must say that I find it rather strange that it is cheaper to get a taxi from the Seattle airport for two people than it is to catch the Holland America Bus transportation.  That makes no sense.

Getting there is half the fun. by 19viking46

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Oosterdam / Destination: U.S. - Pacific, Northwest

We were going to Vancouver,  BC  for a eeek and saw the OOSTERDAM was picking up passangers in San Diego and stopping in Victoria and Vancouver.   We have never cruised with Holland America before so this would be a good opportunity to try them out.  It was a good choice.  Met some wonderful people and was taken care of in excellent fashion by the crew of the OOSTERDAM.

Sunshine is a must! by gilliandearmond

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Oosterdam / Destination: Panama Canal, Central America

After seven months of winter in the north west sunshine is really needed, and we got plenty of that on our cruise from Tampa, through the Canal and up the west coast all the way back to Seattle. From embarkation to disembarkation Holland America had everything well ordered with excellent, non-intrusive service every step of the way. The ship was beautifully clean and well maintained, the staff were friendly and helpful and the food was good. All in all, a great trip. We especially appreciated the general lack of noisiness and the very tasteful background music around the ship, as well as the various onboard entertainments.

Holland Oosterdam by mcclarywe

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Oosterdam / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The rooms are clean, the food was the best, but the cruise is better set up for older people.  Age 70 and up.  There was not much to do with young kids.  The dress code for dinner are set up for older people ( suit and tie)  not casual.

Review on Holland America cruise by king842

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Oosterdam / Destination: Caribbean - Western

There were problems with stateroom toilet and took days to fix. Also, charges to stateroom that I didn't charge.  We didn't stop at last island due to another ship took the dock we were to disembark and no back up plan, that meant 2 days at sea.

Old Timers Cruise by ljspike

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Oosterdam / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Dining accommodations could have been better.  Seated at table for eight and only four showed.  Gentleman at our table got sick and vomited on two occasions.  He then fell while getting up from the table.  Unfortunately I did not leave the table on the first occasion, felt sorry for other couple, did not want them to be alone.

The cabin and Neptune lounge was the best part of our cruise.

Thank you Chaney.  If and when we cruise again we will call you.

Last Caribbean cruise of the season - not up to HA standards by mplus1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Oosterdam / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Well usually cruise in January and February and when I scheduled this March cruise I did not realize it was the last cruise of the season.  It seems that they were not staffed as they should be, long lines in the Lido and very, very few activities during the day.  Our cabin  seem to be in poor repair, many cracks in the bathroom sink, also many cracks in the bathtub and much rest on the veranda.  I think if they're going to run a cruise and it be so under their typical standards they should do something to compensate you in someway.  My husband and I rarely got to have breakfast or lunch together and less we ate in the dining room because we were always waiting in lines to get an omelette or a salad in the Lido. They would have two omelette station is open but only one person working there, to salad station is open but only one person working to fill the orders.  We were both, extremely disappointed in this cruise him we help on my cruise HA again They will Return to their normal standards of good service

Great food & Ride by hwlorl

The food was excellent and well presented. The dinning room stewards and room stewards were extremely friendly and helpful. The ship could stand some updating, it is showing signs of wear.
