Nice get-away by cmauble

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Sky / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

Considering the cost was so low, this was a nice little get-away.  The food could have been better, but I loved the free-style dining of NCL.  Next time I would invest in at least one night of specialty dining though. The crew and staff were all very welcoming and eager to help.  The one thing that I would definitely do again is renting the small cabana on Stirrup Cay.  If your idea of heaven is lounging on a beach chair sipping a fruity drink, snacking on shrimp & fruit, under a ceiling fan, with the warm turquoise water spread out before you then rent a cabana.  It is well worth the high price tag.  First, it comes with a $50.00 food/drink credit. The ceiling fan is the bomb when it is very hot & humid.  The cabanas also come with towels, floating cushions, a small refrigerator, and a freshwater shower. Sooo worth it!!

Norwegian Sky by pcraig105

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Sky / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

This was my first cruise.  Loved it!  The staff was excellent!  Anything you need, they will get it for you.  Very relaxing for the most part.  Really loved the beaches, Crystal clear waters, was beautiful.  Rented one of the party rafts to float on, too bad someone stole it when we went to lunch.  :(  The ship was very clean.  The staff was very helpful. I would do it again, but I would take a longer trip next time!

Norwegian Cruise Line by annettejackson4

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Sky / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

Our cruise was a bit more than expected according to other reviews. Yet my husband and I have talked about our experience and we are planning to cruise with Norwegian again, this time with our grands.

The excursions were great at all 3 ports. I especially enjoyed the Great Stirrup Cays. Quiet, yet a lot of entertainment. The Wave Runner excursion was on the money! The food was tasty, maybe step it up a notch with some sea food. Other than that my birthday week was AWESOME.....

The captain and his crew by jfinbsfl

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Sky / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

This was my second cruise on the Norwegian Sky. In my opinion; weather, crew and ship play a role in the enjoyment of a cruise. The Sky has been in service for a while, she is still a nice ship. The weather was nothing less of perfect (coming from a south Florida native). Captain Pelle (sp) was very professional, friendly and entertaining. In my opinion, his crew followed his lead on my cruise.

Bobby Broughton is the cruise director that hosts and participates in much on the entertainment around the ship. We found  the entertainment (that we saw) fun and very funny! We spoke briefly by the control booth in theater (you drive by Bonita Springs on the way to work) Great Job!!!

Andrew Kennedy was the comedian on this cruise. Any time he had a show, good luck finding a seat if you were late. He had all ages laughing out loud. If his show had kids in the audience, he kept it clean. Very funny for all ages. Would enjoy seeing his show again!

Jose took care of our room. He was very polite, attentive and fun to interact with.

Every place I/we went on the ship, the crew was nice to us. In passing many acknowledged you with eye contact and had a smile. Many that I interacted with, I had a great conversation.

The places we went to on Freeport and Nassau were not part of a tour sold on the ship. We enjoyed both islands and the people we interacted with were great. Wellington (Welli) on Freeport and Patrick (Goldies Arawak Cay) Nassau.

Norwegian Cruise Line's private island, Great Stirrup Cay, was very enjoyable. Clean and modern amenities. Much of the ships crew came ashore to work on the island in many areas. Great lunch buffet and great job on updating the island. Only comment, more places to hide lounge chairs in the shade. After an hour or two of baking, Captain Pelle may serve you as lobster on the cruise back to port.

I read a few other reviews on this cruise before booking for a second time. My FIRST cruise the sea was a bit to rough for the captain to allow the tender boats to bring us to Great Stirrup Cay. It was disappointing BUT safety is first for the captain and seeing how much that gangway moves in calms seas, it is understandable. We used the safe for any valuables we left behind in the room. Push in a four digit code, hit # and wa-lah, valuables are "safe". The buffet food was good - very good, the service restaurants had a slightly better selection (we did the two that were part of the cruise). In my opinion, overall a pretty good meal. Keep in mind, the Sky has been in service for a while, she is still a very nice ship for her age.

A lot of fun for people who want to get away for a few days and disconnect. The people that I spoke with were having a great time. Some celebrating college graduation from St Louis, others up from south America (Brazil)....  Weather played a role with our cruise, and ports of call, but I also believe it was in combination with the crew of the Sky.

Thank you for a great cruise!

WOW... by AZB

Much better than expected...the accommodations were fine because we only slept in the room, very clean, food, activities for children, the spa, and plenty of things to do.  The cruise wasn't too long or too short.  I would definitely go again!

You'll be tempted, but do yourself a favor and don't book this cruise ship by peache68

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Sky / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

I get why anyone would be tempted, I was tempted and I did actually book this cruise. This was just supposed to be a bit of fun for my son and I, a weekend cruise to Nassau. DON'T DO IT! First of all, the low fare you think you are getting goes right out the window, because Norwegian charges you so many items that are not explained to you until the last day. For instance, my trip was paid in full, except for the $12 dollars PER DAY charge for the room having changed sheets (filthy and stained)

and the wait staff (which were terrible, but more on that later) So you're going to plunk down over $550 for the cruise and then, $12 dollars per day, Per Person for an extra $100 charge. You are now approaching a $700 cruise for basically 2 days. At $350 dollars a day, this cruise is NOT worth it. Let me elaborate. Our cabin was tiny, we expected that, but the urine stained toilet seat, and stench from the toilet was nearly unbearable. My mattress was so uncomfortable, I slept on the floor which was moderately better only because it didn't sag in the middle forcing my back to curve unnaturally. We of course went to the front desk to change rooms and were curtly told that the ship was sold out and they could not accommodate any room changes. The ship itself is worn down, this is a quickie weekend trip ship and the ship is not maintained by Norwegian, it's shoddy and starting to unravel. The restaurant food is wonderful, very tasty, however the restaurant staff is deplorable. Our servers barely spoke english so ordering was difficult, getting service such as refills of water and ketchup was impossible without getting up and getting it yourself. The service was so slow, we gave up on dessert twice after waiting 20 minutes and never receiving our cake, keep in mind, I was paying 24 dollars a day for this service. Everything on a cruise ship is an upcharge, you kind of expect that, but this cruiseline takes it to a whole new level. The shore excursion to Stirrup Cay was staffed by incompetent people who truly didn't care about their job. This is a vacation for people and you are treated like you are bothering them. The lunch provided on Stirrup Cay was marred by the juice machines being broken, and half of the food tasted and looked as if it had been left outside for a few hours. The beach chairs are very comfy on the island and the Jet Ski tour was very fun, if not slightly disturbing because one of our guides kept doing "tricks" which were incredibly dangerous. I was glad we didn't have to experience our guide being  killed due to his fancy jet skiing which included hanging off the side and jumping waves. Great example for my kid... not.

I caution you again, don't take this cruise or use Norwegian unless you are on their new ships, coming out in 2015, or you dislike the person you are cruising with. You will be socked with hidden fees, rude/incompetent staff, slow service and filthy conditions.

wonderful cruise by yaoliwen2002

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Sky / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

SKY is a new, clean and wonderful cruise. Nice buffet and dinner food. Kind, polite, happy and helpful service people. The Indian guy gave us many suggestions to help us choose cool excursions. Everyday when we came back room, we could see different towel-folded animals on the bed! What a warm greeting! And we love the showtime starting at 9:30 every night!

If there were more activities for the teenagers, that would be perfect!

We really enjoy the four-day Caribbean trip!We definitely will choose the Norwegian cruise again.

We recommend the oceanview room instead of the interior room! That worth much more!

Enjoyable Half and half by juliasedaca

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Sky / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

The places were beautiful, we enjoyed the excursions very much, dinners at the Crossing restaurant were very enjoyable but not a big selection.

The ship itself is not that great as others we'd been. The Balcony Cabin is smaller than others. No bathrobes. The lamps in the bed were broken/cracked. Behind the curtains has not been vacuum for a long time. They did not replace the bottles of water in 2 days. I sent something to be pressed and it took 2 days and my request to take them back. The hostess at the restaurant made jokes about our last name. I'm a business person and I train my personnel in "do not ever make jokes with guest's last names". its really not professional.

If Norwegian is the only one when I can go on vacation, I'll take it; BUT, If I can choose, then I will get another cruise line.

The Ship by roz2005

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Sky / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

The staterooms are VERY small, so don't plan to spend anytime in them. Which I didn't, but it would be nice to have a decent place to change clothes. They don't clean the bathroom (toilet and shower) during your cruise, so bring something to refresh it.

All good except ... by lance9161119

Food was great. Service was great. Entertainment was adequate. The main swimming pool was not operational. Saw people working on it, cleaning it, but no one could swim in it. Word was it had been like this for a couple of cruises. Whether or not that was true, not having an operational swimming pool is a rather large product defect.

watch out for the extras. by expectedmore

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Sky / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

By the time we finished the cruise, the extra we had to pay for were more than the cruise itself. From the time we boarded til then end everything outside of the basics food & juice. I also didn't get an itinerary of activities so that I could pack properly.

El Comedor, clase de merengue. by graziahayon78

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)

My sister and I went to the dining room for dinner the first night and we were assigned a very distant table, because we are very remote and instead we wished to share dinner with others and to have the opportunity to connect and meet others.

The waiters were very attentive, but quickly after bringing out the first course, they brought the second and by the time we started the second course it had already cooled and then they took long in bringing out dessert. Day 2 at Outrigger they cancelled the Merengue class, we got there a little early and they weren’t ready, so we went to drink but when we returned the Instructor had left, so we were once again disappointed by the lack of patience and other people told us the the Instructor was upset, saying we had come too late, but he did not bother to on music or make an announcement. Comparing to Royal Caribbean the entertainment and shows are better and the dining room where they assign tables according to age so you can meet others and be in company.

Great for a short break by kayetherington

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Sky / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

The crew could not have been nicer and the general facilities were good, food much better than expected especially in the bistro restaurant, the spa and staff were excellent, especially the massages, the cabin was clean, though small and the only downside is that I had clearly paid more than  anyone else, so it was not a cheap cruise, but a good one.

Our overall experience by Shaneice

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Sky / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

It was my boyfriend's b-day,I called a head of time to place in the notations when we went to the atateroom no greetings as promised no gift card as promised I even went down stairs to the front desk no help, that left a bad taste in my mouth I plan this trip for months no  acknowledgemen. The steward was awesome! She tried to help but she mad my cruise a blast I am thankful for her. I paid for my cruise through a thrid party which was awsome they told me all services was included even the surcharges. NCL is a little bit too expensive 12.00 per person per day for service charge plus I tiped the bartenders as well I did not get any help from the front desk about being charged surcharges when all my expenses was included. More variety in the buffet room.  The Steak House was delicious and the fee per person was reasonable. The shore excursions and Pictures are Too Expensive you should come down on the pricing a little bit, $19.95 per pictures is ridiculous especially when your on a 2-7 days cruise I paid $60 for 3 pictures and that was only for one night.  The staff the first night the receptionist was a bit short and rude when I called to ask ine sinple question.  The other staff's and director were pleasant, the shows where great. The iteneary kept you busy on the boat. I love that before you eat and when you came back on the boat they had a sanitizer machine and a spray bottle to sprey every one hands. The cruise, port, and beaches where relaxing and beautiful. I might cruise on NCL.

Food and cost by tonyapierce2002

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Norwegian Sky / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

The food was very disappointing.  The service charge was a bit unreasonable for a family on a budget.  We got stuck purchasing drinks on several occasions that we didn't order because no one who worked there spoke strong English, and didn't seem to understand what we were speaking.  It was not a family-friendly ship, as there were very few activities for the families.  Options for swimming included a 5 ft. pool where 8 y.o. were unable to swim as they couldn't reach or a pool that was 2ft.  Most of the activities were after 10p.m.  On the positive side, the cabin crew were excellent and worked very hard to give the children a positive experience.  Splash Academy staff were outstanding.  They contacted me ahead of time to discuss my concerns about my special needs child and they developed a plan to give my child a positive experience.

This is my second cruise, previously on a different cruiseline.  The service charge was much more reasonable.  They had key service people who spoke very good English and if there was a problem, it was much easier to resolve.

My experience by masby9885

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Sky / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

My overall expererience was very good.  I was only disappointed when I booked my cruise I was asked if I was celebrating any special occasion. When I told them yes, my wedding anniversary I was then asked which specific date we would be celebrating the anniversary. I specified July 2nd to the person who booked my cruise.  I was told by numerous different people that Norwegian would do something special for us on our anniversary and we never received anything special on July 2nd. So why bother asking and getting a specific date if it truly didn't mean anything? I was really looking forward to something really special like a bottle of champagne in our stateroom at some point during the day or something special. So I was bummed about that.

Overall, I enjoyed my experience and hope to cruise again with Norwegian.
