Not quite what we expected. by Jason92s

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Joy / Destination: Mexico

Our 5th NCL cruise and very likely our last. We just felt like the ship was one big party and we were on vacation to unwind. Ship was beautiful and the food was outstanding.

Challenging weather at port but nice onboard by mercedesmorrisg

Ship: Norwegian Joy / Destination: Mexico

Nice family cruise. While the weather was not great, we enjoyed most specialty restaurants, the shows and activities. Loved the sushi demonstration by Food Republic chef.

Most of the journey was great except for the noise level in the room.

Great staff, terrible buffet, fantastic live music, too many people and continual up-sell! by boberp15187309

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Joy / Destination: Mexico

Probably okay for most but NCL’s free-style approach, mega ship and continual up-selling was not for us.

NCL - How you have fallen by CruiseAlways1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Norwegian Joy / Destination: Mexico

NCL is not what it used to be. The Joy is a big reason. Where is the Norwegian I used to love? As a long time NCL customer I had a number of issues with this ship and changes NCL has made. We were given a 50 pictures for 500 dollars deal which is way more expensive than in the past but we also knew we were getting a 30% discount so we thought 350 is not too bad. So after spending 2 hours to pick out the 50 we liked best they told us we could not use our picture rewards program on this deal. We walked away - NCL lost 350 dollars and we lost our pictures. Who wins on this? Also - Their Cruise Next staff are about as aggressive as they come. 5 times I said I only wanted to spend 150 dollars for a 250 credit on my next cruise. They pushed so hard they were practically calling me stupid and even falsely told me I cannot buy a single 250 credit. I was so frustrated I stopped working with the first sales rep and moved to another. And the new one used the same aggressive tactics. Finally, We noticed our balcony and the dinner tables much more compact and tight. As if NCL wanted to save money by shrinking the non-income providing areas. And there is a fee for many activities that used to be free. And those fees are very high. Where have you gone NCL? I want you back!

Nice but crowded by dgmc

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Joy / Destination: Mexico

In my opinion for many the cruise will be just fine but I prefer not to wait in lines and not be overcrowded and not be required to make reservations for anything that you want to do. Its so much work to reserve restaurants and shows and be disappointed when they are sold out. that said the staff accommodated us for sold out shows but we happen to complain I imagine many people didn't see shows because they thought they were sold out

Ship: Norwegian Joy / Destination: Mexico

I would recommend more organization at SAN Pedro Pier. More communication with passengers about wait times.

Relaxing Cruise by baunderwood92

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Joy / Destination: Mexico

Norwegian Joy was built for the Asian market. Yes, it was refurbished, but the rooms are REALLY SMALL. We had a mini-suite and you compare that to Royal Caribbean? That would be a balcony room. The beds are uncomfortable (hard as a rock). And, if you are tall, forget it. Your feet will be off the bed. The bathroom was very nice. Walk-in shower and 2 sinks. Plenty of room to move around. Entertainment and food were excellent. If you are going on this ship to enjoy the speedway, it is not as good as it appears. Due to younger drivers being allowed to drive alone that are inexperienced, you never really get to do a lap at full speed. They need to keep it anyone under 16 should not be on the single karts, or at least at a separate time without adults. We got our money back. We will be going back to Royal Caribbean to enjoy future cruises.

First Norwegian cruise..... well worth it! by crzwilling

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Joy / Destination: Mexico

we had a great time and even purchased future trip on Norwegian (Alaska). this ship had 4500 passengers however other than the first day we didn't feel we couldn't do anything we wanted to. there were a few things that annoyed us but overall a great experience. if you get annoyed easy due to crowds find a different ship. If you go with patients, desire to meet people, and want to just relax.... this is your ship!!

Not Great and time at sea was a snooze fest by kimvalentini

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Joy / Destination: Mexico

I have cruised a few times and this boat was the worst. Activities were few and far between. Entertainment was limited. They charged for everything. Our room was not kept well. I wouldn't book on this boat again.

Nice trip! by asugarplums2

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Joy / Destination: Mexico

The ship is in excellent condition, very well appointed ,very comfortable, and easy to get around on. The activities are typical of what is found on about any mid ranged priced cruise ship with nothing special to make it outstanding. The dress code of anything goes if you’re covering all needed areas is a very noticeable thing... most people dressed relaxed and you could wear shorts even to dinner. My biggest disappointments were that the food has become just average with us having much better on other cruise lines this year and that the waiters don’t seem to know proper serving and equate manners anymore reaching over plates, serving men before ladies, etc... taking a younger much younger ladies order before the older lady who was present, etc...just to name a few noticed slips in etiquette.

Wonderful Cruise! by iloveevie1984

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Joy / Destination: Mexico

We had a wonderful cruise experience, which exceeded my expectations. As stated above though- please do not book air travel through Norwegian. You will most likely end up sitting for an entire day at LAX airport having to haul all of your luggage around (you cannot check your bags or yourself in until 5 hours before your boarding time). They, Norwegian, will select the late night redeye, which is most cost effective for them. The 50 dollars saved in booking our flights via a travel package was quickly spent with 3 meals and 4 beverages (per person) at an airport. Note- post Sept 11th, airports do not have storage lockers for luggage, which prevents you from even leaving, should you want to spend the day out sightseeing, while waiting for your late night flight.

The worst so far by puma95670

This was the worst cruise I have ever been and this was my 12 cruise. Very bumpy ride specially last night of the cruise . I though that the ship will fall apart from all the squeaks we were hearing

Fun cruise but not my favorite ship by just5ofus

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Joy / Destination: Mexico

We had a lot of fun overall and didn’t let the little stuff bother us. But the service could have been better, the layout could have been better thought out, and we were annoyed about sooo many extra charges with no effort to compensate for the inconveniences caused by norovirus on board - missing activities, constantly having hands sanitized, inability to access buffet on your own to get exactly what you wanted because you had to be served, washing and scrubbing everywhere all the time, delays boarding, and generally feeling a little unsettled about potentially getting sick. Would have appreciated some better customer service and instead got a tired and grumpy crew.

Norovirus by Sanitized

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Joy / Destination: Mexico

The Joy housed over 4,800 passengers. This is the 1st time we cruised on the Joy and the last! If a ship contracted Norovirus twice something is wrong here!! Passengers should receive at least $500 on board credits next cruise on other NCL ships!! It was uncomfortable for 7 days watching the crew constantly sanitizing everything! Washy washy was term to wash hands! But, I thank the NCL crew for doing an excellent job in preventing the spread of Norvirus! Thumbs up people!!
