Fam Vacation Jul 4 by petitjp

Nice Ship, need to add the tips in the price that is about $100 per person.

The staff is not exceptional, the fixed tips keep to gold treatment out of their range, specially in dinning.

The ports are OK. Best both México's worst Roatan.

50th wedding celebration with family by jocar6

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Western

I can not choose one event as special.  The entire cruise was incredible.  From the personal attention from the awesome staff to the special extras that were included everyday.  Special dinner, champagne, swans and roses on our bed, cocktails with the captain, to the invitation to the ice bar and so many other things too many to mention that made our trip extra special.   Special thanks to all the wonderful staff that was there to take are of every detail. They are receiving a separate thank you.

My NCL cruise by cmoore3656

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Western

loved my cruise, did a back to back and I'll do it again. Didn't care for the reserve, didn't get to see many shows because they were booked. The ship needed more pools, there was only one child and one adult but besides that I enjoyed my cruise and all that went along with it. Very professional, great food, memorable experience, staff and crew were great. Keep NCL number 1. Thank you. 😎

Norwegian Getaway: 6/26/16-7/3/16 by LizJohnson2016

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Overall, the Norwegian Getaway was a perfect experience for our family. There was constantly something to do, somewhere to eat, and some activity going on.  Two of our children loved the Teen Entourage and our 11 year old loved the kid's club. On the Days at Seas, the kids did get frustrated on how long the lines were for the ropes course and water slides, however, by late afternoon/early evening there was barely a wait.  Our daughter did the tour of the ship and loved it.  They took her into all of the nook and crannies of the ship, to the staff quarters, and showed her where Pitbull filmed his video (and just that was enough for her)!!! The shows "Burn The Floor" & The Million Dollar Quartet were amazing and also kept the kids engaged. We loved all of the excursions booked through CruiseOnly.  They were beyond superb!

They did re-route our ship so we went to Cozumel and then Costa Maya.  I did hear that they are doing that a lot now due to port congestion.  A couple of cons:  Shore Excursions:  I would recommend booking with an outside company or using your travel agent.  We were able to get much better prices through CruiseOnly.

The Norwegian iConierge App was pretty much a dud!!!  First, in order to text people on the ship, each person has to subscribe to the texting service which is $14.99 per person even if they resided in the same room as you.  The app was down for almost a day along with the television.  You were not able to build your itinerary from the app.  You could only see what the schedule was.  Also, not all the freestyle menus were viewable through the app.

Restaurants/Bars/Shows:  I hated that there were cover charges for some of the restaurants and clubs as well as certain shows.  I can understand the need for reservations but additional costs I think is unnecessary and defeats the purpose of cruising.

Spa:  if you want to book the Thermal Spa package; book before you get on the ship.  I was hoping to be able to get a day pass, since $179- price point prior to leaving was steep but they weren't available until the last day and it was $50 for the day.

Building memories for our boys by jasonallison451

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The water slides was the big hit with our boys. The service is good. Not willing to help out trying to get rooms closer together. We had two cabins, with children 5, 10, and 12. They had our cabins on deck 9 and deck 5. Not good at all. The excursion we purchase through the boat cost us 585.00. It was swim with the sharks and sting rays. Never saw any sharks. Set in the hot sun on a boat for most of the excursion. Would not purchase excursion through the boat again. Way to high and the ones we purchase off the boat was exactly as advertised and way cheaper.

Great Ship by policerichard

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The ship and cruise was fantastic.  Been on over 10 cruises and wife and I think this was the best food we ever had.  Granted there's no longer lobster night or midnight buffets but the quality and service was terrific.  The ship was huge but there was always a place to escape and get away from the crowds.  The entertainment was terrific and ports were all very good with the exception of Belize City which was a dump.

Mary Gene De La Cruz our travel agent from was terrific in helping us and would recommend her.

Worst cruise experience ever (boring and nasty food by dinajn

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The destinations were great.I couldn't wait to get off the ship the food was disgusting. There is no such thing as fine dining on this ship . The food that they use at the Garden buffet place was the same food they were serving at the world-class dining room . Gross! The ship was also boring nothing to do that was free and if it was free it was overly booked and also disappointing. I will never travel through this ship again

Nice cruise by joebama

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Overall the cruise was really great..the only real complaints I have is with the size of the pool and the number of restaurants that had a cost associated with it.  I felt like I was getting nickeled and dime for experiencing different restaurants.  I will say that the buffet was really good and honestly was better than I expected.  My other complaint is with the size of the pools.  The water slides are great but my home pool is almost the same size as the pool on the boat.

The staff was really great and friendly with the exception of a couple grumpy waiters in the Savor and Taste.   The Tropicana food was really great and if I had it to do over i would had dinner in the Tropicana every night rather than trying the Taste or Savor.  All in all I thought the cruise was great and the stops were great as well. Happy

Had a great time. Boat was wonderful by Zl6Y7hniM4UoSgzRvBVZlUu1x

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Western

This is a great crew and ship.  Enjoyed every day.  Don't think we could have seen so many ports and enjoyed ourselves more in the 8 days 7 nights.  NCL Getaway has many different venues to eat and be entertained.  The boat entertainment was fabulous and we enjoyed how the boat uses the passengers for entertainment.  ie. game shows and instructional cooking shows.  The food was as good if not better than the Royal Caribbean and Carnival.  I'm not sure why this was our first time on NCL...BUT IT WON'T BE OUR LAST...

Misleading in many way. Read the fine print. All inclusive it is not. by mark433

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Our first bit of advice - do NOT spend the extra money on a "mini-suite."  Our kids had a room right next to us that was a "balcony" room while we had the mini-suite, which, suffice to say, we paid substantially more for.  We walked into their room and discovered they had the exact (and I mean exact) same room, with the exception being that our bathroom was slightly larger (we had a double sink a a few more square feet.).  So, if you can live with their normal sized bathrooms, do not let them soak you for more money on a mini-suite that is the same room as a balcony room.  We are going to request a refund from Norwegian asking for the difference back between the two rooms because we believe they intentionally mislead their customers into believing the mini-suite is something more substantial then the next lowest room.

** The next consumer warning!  The "Ultimate Drink Package" is another mis-labeled, misleading option to soak you of your money.  On other cruise lines, when you purchase the premium drink package, it certainly includes coffee, right?  You would think if they are going to give you all the free (well, you paid for it) premium whiskey, gin, vodka or whatever it is you drink, but not a cup of coffee, then they mislead their customers into believing they are getting something that is standard on other cruise lines.  It was actually shameful on their part.

And, in conjunction with the premium or "ultimate" drink card not truly being "ultimate." they also cheat the kids out of getting non-alcoholic blended beverages, such a non-alcoholic Pina Colada.  That's right, you pay for the "soda"package for the kids, and they can't have the slushy drinks they all like.  And, get this, you'll find this "sneaky" on their part, they do not have soda machines anywhere on the ship, other than the bars.  That's right - no soda's in the buffet line.  The only cruise ship I've ever seen in my life where you can't get a cold coke or pepsi with your "soda" card.

Oh, and this will boggle your mind.  They have very strict regulations on pool towels.  That's right. You get two in your room, and whatever you do, don't lose them, they'll charge you $25.00.  They won't give you towels out by the pool.  You have to carry them with you.  And, at the end of the day, if the pool "steward" is gone, you have to carry your wet towel around with you.  I was flabbergasted by a policy on cruise ship with such restrictions on pool towels. In line with pool towels, they only have one small pool for the adults.  Yep, that's it, one pool.  Take a guess at the madness around the one pool during the day.

Here's another example of how this cruise line works to extract every penny out of us hardworking Americans or, for that matter, every customer.  Unlike most  cruise lines, where all your food is free, with the exception of maybe one or two, high-end specialty restaurants, this cruise line is just the opposite.  You have a very limited selection of sit-down restaurants to chose from (or the buffet) while they have a greater number of restaurants where you have to pay an upcharge to eat there.  This is a true statement, we ate at only 2 restaurants (one which was horrible) on a week-long cruise.

All-in-all, it was a very average (to poor) cruise and we'll be searching for another cruise line that is geared towards to customer satisfaction.

Great service and food. It is a big ship! by OcalaWalter

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Western

First let me say that the food and service were great. Every crew member did everything they could to make it a great trip.

If you have mobility issues, this ship may be a bit hard for you to deal with. There are 4000 passengers so many of the public spaces feel a bit crowded and you have to make reservations for most of the entertainment. The public spaces are just loud in general.

I stayed in a single studio and it was one of the best deals I ever got, but be prepared for a "smallish" room.

Overall a great experience.

Great Ship and Fun destinations by rmaharaj

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Western

This is our 4 cruise and have been on NCL/Carnival and Royal Carribbean. This is the nicest ship to date. It is Only two yrs old and in great shape. Getting on board was quick and easy and our luggage arrive on time. Our interior rooms were a bit small at first but since we did not spend much time there wasn't  an issue. This ship had lots of this to do for kids and adults. My teenagers love the basketball and soccer courts and spent most of their time there. This ship was so large that there wasn't an issue finding chairs on seas days to lounge on. Adult only pool was nice and the kids have their own water park. Instead of having 1 main dining room they had separate restaurants. Even thou the menu  were similar it made it feel like you were trying something new every night. Entertainment was very good but I wish there were more shows, TIP when you get on board find a Touch screen located on every floor and book your shows and restaurants times other wise you will be in a waiting line to get in. Ports were nice, some nice than others. To me everything seem expensive on the shore excursions, but the trade off is that the kids all agree it was the best vacation ever. Zipline was fun/cave tubing excellent/Maya beach break is great/Ruins excursion ok.  THE only negative is that the Casino located in the middle of the atrium, cigarette smoke filled the decks above and below near it. It bothered me so I spent little time near those areas. A poor design to say the least. NCL lives up to its name as freestyle as most cruisers went to dinner way to casual for me tee shirts flip flops/hats. Other than that is was a great vacation!

Attaway; Getaway! by josephbarkowitz

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Western

My family of three, went on the Norwegian Getaway from 6/19-6/26/16. Overall, we had an excellent time. Our favorite part of the cruise was the tubing excursion through the caves in Belize. The cruise itself was enjoyable, as the crew we met, were very friendly, concerned about our satisfaction, and for the most part, attentive to our needs. We never did meet our steward, which was the only time that has ever happened on all of the cruises we have been on! The food was good, and the two shows that we saw, which were included our cruise price were excellent! Our major complaint was that there were two shows that were offered at $25-$35 extra a person. There was also upscale dining venues that were offered. What ever happened to "once you pay for a cruise, all is included", type of cruise? Overall, we had a good time!

Western Caribbean by kkramarck

This was a very different experience than the typical island hopping,  It was a great experience if you enjoy the jungle and other land-based excursions as well as the typical beach activities like diving.

Had a great time! by BigBob1211

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Western

We really enjoyed our NCL cruise! Our cabin was fantastic and the ship was outstanding. We also really enjoyed the ports. This was our first NCL cruise, which had some differences. For one, reservations are required for all the shows... Even the comedy shows. This was a big difference as on other cruises you can just show up. Also the comedy shows, which were very popular, were held in a smaller venue - so not everyone that wanted to attend could.

Also, it seemed like the cruise was constantly charging for things that should be included. For instance, with the ultimate beverage package you still need to buy bottles water. For the complimentary restaurants, on the menu there are still meals that have a surcharge.

For the ultimate dining package, some of the included restaurants have an additional charge.

Best cruise EVER!! by rgolds280

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Getaway / Destination: Caribbean - Western

I've been on many many cruises in my life and I would have to say that the Getaway was one of the best cruises I have ever been on!! The beverage package is a must  and the food was really good everywhere not just in the specialty dining ,

The staff was friendly and the ship is clean and we had A fabulous time!  The only bad thing is that the balconies are very very small but that's because it is such a large passenger ship that's what happens..but you can still sit out on your balcony and enjoy your morning coffee or a drink . I highly recommend taking the Getaway  especially to the Western Caribbean the highlight of our trip was Belize and Costa Maya
