The Casino stinks of cigarettes so stay away! I enjoy the slots but unfortunately the smoke filled room triggered asthma attacks.

Try all the specialty dining places.

If you are traveling with any kind of food allergy be very careful. Have traveled on other lines that had plenty of gluten free options and the chef was always available to assist me if I had any questions. Never was able to speak to a chef on NCL Gem, let alone have him walk me around and give me some assistance. Definitely need to improve in this area.

Have breakfast at the Great Outdoors, usually not crowded and very relaxing

Listen to what others have to say, but take it with a grain if salt. Discover for yourself and formulate your own opinions. For example: if I order a steak medium-rare and I like it more to the rare side - and that's what I get - it's perfect. However, if I order a steak done medium-rare and I like it more to the medium side, then I would have a complaint that the steak was not done to my liking.

If you are a NON SMOKER or ALLERGIC to tobacco products avoid the Casino and the lower level (deck 6) of the Spinnaker.

Don't miss the shows.

Non handicap people regularly use the handicap tables in the main buffet. We saw teens, people in workout clothes who just came from the gym or power walking on deck, and people just to lazy to look for tables when it was busy, using these tables. I understand it's a delicate subject for NCL to confront them. It just speaks on the number of low lifes who cruise.

Make sure you bring a power strip. Only one power plug in cabin, as they are in most ships.

Don't be afraid to ask questions. The staff are fantastic and always seemed happy to help.

Bring your own water bottle. When boarding the ship all water bottles were confiscated, even if you bought the water package!!!!!! Don't buy any liquor until you compare the prices on the duty free ports. The ship hook is "if you find it for less we will match the price and give you credit" The hitch is that the stores will not let you take a picture of the booze to prove the price difference. HA HA

Honestly pick a newer ship.

Their onboard app is not the best. My sister was unable to load it on her phone and that lmited our ability to communicate throughout the trip. We had 250 free internet minutes. Their system requires that you officially "log out" after you use it. If you don't it eats up your minutes like crazy. After we learned that we were logging out but literally 1 minute later the system showed a login and ate up valuable minutes without usage. Their internet tech was not very knowledgeable and frustrating to work with. And he was rarely at his desk when he was supposed to be.

It’s not good for a 11 day cruise. Maybe a 5 days cruise and for older people. Not families with kids.

I love this ship for its size and the haven, how ever the food could be of better quality
