Wonderful way to take a vacation. You walk on the ship and everything is done for you. Woke up in the morning took a shower and the whole day was ahead of you. Lots of activities, Friendly and courteous staff members. I would recommend this cruise to all my family and friends.

The ship itself was clean and in good condition. However, the cruise staff were overall rude and lazy and were not friendly. The first 3 days of our cruise was extremely stressful, wasn't until we decided to just make the most of the cruise ourselves and not rely on the staff did we begin to enjoy ourselves. A cruise is a vacation that you are supposed to feel pampered from beginning to end. We never felt pampered the entire cruise and had to work at making it fun. We missed Royal Caribbean Cruiseline VERY MUCH! We will not cruise with NCL again!

We were not happy with our experience on the NCL's Gem. The room were tiny, very tiny. We could not see the TV because the 3rd bunk from the wall covered it's access. The halls were always congested with vacuum, linen carts, and plates left in the hallway from guest that did not finish their food. Speaking of food...it was the same stuff every single night! There were no variations. The only time we got something else was when we paid for it in one of the specialty restaurants. Their private island was extremely undeveloped. it looke like it was sand blasted and left that way. Our son hurt himself walking back to the tender three times because of the rocks. I will never travel on NCL's cruiseline again.

Overall it was a nice experience. The rooms were very clean, the public restrooms could have been cleaned up alittle more frequently. The upscale restaurants were worth the additional charge. The shows were good, but I think they needed to add alittle more variety to the daily activities.

My family had a great time. Freestyle is the way to go with kids. There was something to do for every one, from my 4 year old son to my 65 yr old mother in-law. loved everything about the cruise.

We sailed on the NCL Gem out of New York 4/2/2011.The ship is very colorfull. Has 12-14 resturants too choice from.

Our cruise was incredible! The staff was very nice, the staterooms were very clean. Our son and his friend (age 16) found other teens and had a blast! The teen club was to childish for this age group but they found other ways to entertain themselves. The only bad part of this experience was the buffet. You had to get your own beverages including hot coffee; there were a lot of kids running around who dont look where they run or who they run into. The staff should pour the hot beverages! Other than that we had a wonderful time and highly recommend this cruise.

This was the first cruise that I had ever been on. My husband and I took our three kids and my daughters husband (they are all 20-34, not really "kids"). We had 3 staterooms and the layout was nice. I have to say that the crowdedness of the ship was to be expected, but I didn't think it would be that overwhelming. Most of the customers were really rude. I enjoyed the freestyle cruising except for that fact. I think next time I would choose a larger stateroom, smaller group (ship) and not freestyle cruising. Maybe then I wouldn't feel like a herded cow every time it was meal time. And we even tried 4 of the other restaurants. They were just okay-good...nothing incredible. I still had a good time and my kids really enjoyed themselves. Just being together as a family was the best.

wouold not recommend. smoking allowed in staterooms and in public area around children and sports deck. very disappointed.

The layout of the ship was very confusing. You could not just walk from one side to the other. Overall their was nothing impressive about the ship.

It was a low budget ship. lights/treadmills and elevator was out of service on the whole trip. What a shame.

Enjoyed the cruise. Very clean, many different activities available. Staff very nice. Love the flexibility to eat when you want to and not have to participate in formal nights if you do not want to do it.

We thought that the ship was really nice. Compared to our last Norwegian cruise, this ship seemed so much bigger. It was very easy to navigate around the ship. We thought the layout was nice because if you were ever lost, there was always a map close by to help you out. The main dining room food was alright. We seemed to think that everything was a bit too salty. Although there was a variety of choices, it seemed that the food was very standard on the ship. The atmosphere of each of the main dining rooms were absolutely beautiful. The Garden Cafe was nice considering it was a buffet. Finding a seat was always an issue no matter what time you decided to go. I would recommended getting Room Service for Breakfast so you don't have to bother with the long lines. The entertainment on the Gem was absolutely amazing. Go to every show because they are great and you will definitely have fun.
