Ship: Norwegian Escape / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

We were on the first 7 day trip that left miami November 14th. Ship was Huge , Very nice cabin , we had a balcony on the 15th floor. Food was very good in pay resteraunts and also the complimentry ones. Entertainment was very good also. Only problems , they could use a little more bar staff , and room service was a chore. Would recommend the Escape , also water slides are a lot of fun also.

7 Day Escape Review by sotermarler

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Escape / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

We sailed on the brand new Escape's first inaugural cruise out of Miami.

The ship was fabulous! It was new, modern and had all of the hi-tech luxuries you would expect a new ship to have.

The main dining room food as well as the buffet food was much better than then my previous Getaway cruise. The beds were comfy, the fridge was cold, the Casino was large and the Freestyle dining was the best!

There is always activities going on, trivia, music, games, shows and of course the water park.

The only reason I gave this a 4 out of 5 was because it was the inaugural 7 day and the racer slides weren't working, our room steward was not attentive and the smoke in the casino was pretty bad. ( I have read they are already trying to fix that with a wall though)

This is a must do!

A nightmare by annie954

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Escape / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

unfriendly upper staff atmosphere,  More uncomplimentary activities than complementary and even if you get sick of your complementary food options, the uncomplimentary options are booked.  Unless your a power drinker, nothing at all to do.  I could not wait to get off this ship, i was going stir crazy from day two.  The ship is a floating infomercial.

A very negative experience, very disappointed and very pissed off that i paid a hefty fee for all of it.

November Cruise by Cruiser687

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Norwegian Escape / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

The ship was very nice. We dined in the specialty restaurants each night which were very good. I personally would not cruise on a ship this size again, but it was a lot of fun with the group of ladies we cruised with.

Services by nanl4man

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Escape / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

Very disappointed in the service on ncl. Sat at several bars and were completely ignored by bartender. Stood right in front of them and would not make eye contact and gave second rounds to others when I was trying to get one. When I had questions or needed help most employees very short and didn't seem happy to be there. Restraunts all booked for four days before we even got on the ship.  Quite a few were closed during different times due to private parties. Would not go on this cruise line again. My first cruise disappointing.  Next one with be on different cruise line

Cruising by Cruiser552

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Escape / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

Rooms were laid out well;  balcony was nice; several design features that were particularly nice.  There were USB ports by the beds, and the shower seemed particularly spacious due to the design of the showerheads and soap dispensers.  Guest services were a bit erratic; for example there was no coffee in the room the first morning.  Notification lights for my room (11724) didn't work (the idea is great giving the the guest control of when to request service or not) and apparently hadn't worked the week before.  Room did not receive the daily newsletter which wasn't a problem until the last night when customs forms and procedure for checkout weren't passed out.

Dining facilities were spacious and staff helpful.  Food was good in both the upscale as well as general dining areas.  Service at the various bars was great.

Lovely Cruise on the new ship! by Cruiser316

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Norwegian Escape / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

The Escape is a huge ship - with so many amenities and activities that we couldn't do them all!  The entertainment was outstanding and we had the upgraded meal package, which we thoroughly enjoyed.  Our cabin steward was attentive and if you go to Teppanyaki, "Mel" provides the best entertainment!  We were all singing along with him while he prepared our fabulous meal!

The only area I felt that needed to be improved is that the cigarette smoke from the casino comes in to the indoor common area of the ship.  If they can better enclose it or improve the ventilation, then it could be an easy fix.  We also would have enjoyed some more affordable shopping opportunities.

Overall, if I had to do this cruise over again, I definitely would.  Highly recommended. Oh...and I would also like to do the ropes/obstacle course - I chickened out this time!

Had a great time the only disappointment was they didn't have Jimmy Buffett music  at his restaurant or bar as background music? There is so much to do 3 days isn't enough going back for a week>

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Escape / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

The ship was great and the food was very good but was not happy waiting for 30 minutes for a burger .The ship room had no draws in the desk. The staff was very helpful.I was not pleased with them changing from going to there private island to going to Nassau. I booked it for the island and the fact it was a new ship. All in all It was great cruise and a great ship and if the price was right I would do it again.

A great family ship! by LearningCurve2

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Escape / Destination: Transatlantic

The first cruise of the Norwegian Escape exceeded my expectations.

Having sailed on maiden cruises of other ships I expected some disorganization and lack of readiness to aaccommodate a large number of passengers.  Not so.  I was disappointed with the cost of the very inefficient internet service, feel that Norwegian is exploiting it's customers.  The food was good, no complaints, but it could have been served hotter.  As a solo traveler, I am not a great fan of Freestyle Dining.

Ship is poorly and unsafely designed near the District Brewhouse.  I had to often open 4 heavy doors in passages en-route to my stateroom and found this hazardous, especially when not being able to see people or equipment on the other side of each door.  Impossible to open each door if you are carrying items in each hand, (or are disabled).  Norwegian should review this route before somebody becomes injured.

I loved my attractive stateroom, 8740 but, unfortunately, I could never make use of my balcony, even when the weather was warm and the sea perfectly calm.  It was always totally soaked with sea-spray.

The entertainment staff were excellent, made sure that all passengers were kept as happy as possible.  Julie, the Cruise Director, is professional, approachable and, possibly, the best I have encountered in 27 cruises.

All in-house entertainers were great and talented.  The main production shows marvellous.  "After Midnight" the most exquisite and brilliant production I have seen on any ship.  (But then I do like jazz music and dance.)

The ropes course is amazing, as are all the other amusements on deck.

For a ship of it's size, the main pool could have been larger.

Guest Services staff were always helpful and the entire crew were friendly.  Some staff appeared to be still "in training" but that is to be expected on a brand new ship.

Thankyou for a great cruise.

Great Cruise by gatobin

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Escape / Destination: Transatlantic

On its maiden voyage across the Atlantic, in spite of not-so-nice weather, the NCL ESCAPE did a great job in every venue in which we participated.  The food was excellent at every restaurant we went to, and entertainment was fabulous!!  Even though it was a tad loud for my personal taste.  I highly recommend this ship and its crew.  Everything was top notch.

Wonderful Ship and Staff, but inaugural trip was much ado about nothing. by Cruiser134

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Escape / Destination: Transatlantic

My wife and I celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary just a couple of weeks before the new Norwegian Escape's inaugural Trans Atlantic voyage. While we had considered trying out another cruise company for the first time (all of our cruises so far have been with NCL) we decided to go with this one for the inaugural trip, expecting a very large party with all kinds of one of a kind celebrations for it being the Inaugural cruise. To say the least this ended up being very underwhelming.

The ship itself is fantastic, and the entertainment staff were wonderful. However, NCL has moved towards many paid options for restaurants, which has always been an option, but now it seems to be more like the majority. This includes some restaurants where you pay a cover, AND ALSO pay for some items a la carte. This to me is really not acceptable. This seems like the management, who have experience in some of the higher end cruise lines, are really missing their target market, and are risking pricing themselves out of the market that has made them so successful. But I suppose this is a topic for another thread.  The biggest disappointment with this cruise was the lack of fanfare over being a brand new ship. NO real celebrations or promotions regarding the inaugural trip, and absolutely NO inaugural voyage merchandise to be had. We would have spent a lot of money on this, but feel NCL really missed the mark on this one. After so much build up, we felt the trip overall was just OK.

The entertainment was great, and certainly earned back a lot of value for the cruise. I fully recommend Million Dollar Quartet, After Midnight, and The Supper Club (even though this one again has a cover charge associated with it). One other issue with regards to the entertainment is that unlike most other ships, the Theatre seems to be too small to accommodate everyone in only 2 shows, so you actually have to make reservations for the shows, and you need to do this fairly quick or you may miss out.

SEVERE PROBLEM FOR CIGARETTE SMOKERS!!!! by ternettetack

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Escape / Destination: Transatlantic

70% of the cruise was *BAD WEATHER* - thus you COULD NOT SIT OUTSIDE.

Rather than to ACCOMMODATE the CIGARETTE SMOKERS BETTER (like my wife - & AS I HAD REQUESTED in many previous LETTERS of PROTEST - NCL (on this ship) REDUCED THE SMOKING LOCATIONS INSIDE  even FURTHER & COMPACTED ALL SMOKERS (CIGARS, PIPES, CIGARETTES) INSIDE THE SMALL CIGAR LOUNGE; furthermore: THERE WAS NO CLEANING SERVICE - until the bar service started at NOON!!! - You may imagine the STINK of the OVERFLOWING ASHTRAYS!!!!

Furthermore: THE NON-SERVICE PROVIDED BY the NCL SUPERVISOR Mrs. BRENDY LOPEZ (prior to the CRUISE) HAD BEEN DISGUSTING!!!

FIRE Mrs. LOPEZ!!!!

Norwegian Escape Inaugeral Cruise by dakonagal

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Escape / Destination: Transatlantic

Beautiful new ship and fun to explore.  Crew very well trained for being new and extremely kind and helpful.  Food in complimentary restaurants was great and we did not try paying for extra meals.  On board entertainment was superior especially the nightly shows in the theater.  Do not if better groups were hired for this cruise but it was wonderful.
