Massive Epic but lacking in style by JudyC8

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Epic / Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean

Epic is built like a tall massive building with a squared off tower lacking in style. The common areas and non-specialty restaurants are also lacking in style. Seems like NCL devoted much of the Epic spaces to cabin and retail store allocations instead of larger size common areas such as theatre, lounges, atrium, etc. in order to maxinmize profit. We had 2 balcony cabins and find the bathroom configuration a little strange. There's a curtain dividing the bathroom from the rest of the cabin. Behind the curtain, there are two separate frosted glass enclosures. One as a shower enclosure and the other for the toilet. The sink is adjacent to the shower enclosure and on the cabin side of the curtain. One can hear every noise coming from behind the curtain when the toilet or shower is in use. The only plus side is that each of the bathroom component can be used independently. The balcony cabin has plenty of storage space but not much room to get around. Non-specialty restaurant menus are not impressive offering mostly modest choices such as chicken, pasta and low quality steaks. Don't expect lobster or more expensive item choices offered by Royal Caribbean or Princess. Not impressed by their dessert menu...bad tasting as well. Service from staff members are hit or miss...some good ones and some bad ones. Le Cirque was outstanding but one has to pay. Blue Man group was not as good as the original. Make your entertainment reservations early as they get filled very quickly. Reservation is required for each entertainment. Overall, our Epic experience was just average and somewhat disappointing as we were expecting more from a brand new vessel.

Great cruise overall! by MikeB20

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Epic / Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean

Overall loved the cruise. Biggest downside was the room was very narrow and the layout was awkward. I think the pool area was great for people traveling with children or young teens. Wish there would have been more older teens on our cruise. I loved that there were no set seating times for dinner. Would have liked to have tried more of the specialty restaurants, however, all the 'extras' really add up fast making this itinerary very expensive!! Entertainment was excellent!!

Worst cruise ever by DeeS1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Epic / Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean

I have cruised more than 15 times. This was the worst curse ever. The balcony had more room that the room itself. There was not privacy. When taking a shower or using the rest room anyone coming in the room could see you. The food was the worst. How do you have a buffet with no vegetables? The dining service was also bad, and the waitress had the nerve to tell me her name and where she was from as if to say there is nothing that I could do about her attitude. The entertainment was also bad. After the Blue Man Group there were nights that I had nothing to do. I do not recommend this ship or NCL. This is the second time I went on an NCL ship and they both were bad experiences, but this was the worst.

Good Cruise by JoseP1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Epic / Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean

The new ships its very nice, bit the concept of adding more rooms and people and leave the same sapace for the thaether and dinning rooms makes the passengers worried about reservations for the night shows and dinning

NCL...Not likely again! by AlexG315430449

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Epic / Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean

NCL has freestyle cruising down nicely, but constant up selling and pushing very expensive drinks, spa services, tous, etc, got old very fast. I am not the only one that noticed, everyone was unhappy with this aggressive policy. On board, I spent nearly 3x more $$$, than I did on similar Med cruise a year ago.

Overall Good Experience by HollieM

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Epic / Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean

Though like I said, it was a little over crowded, the food was eh, and majority of staff were not super helpful it was a still a great time. We figured out what we needed to and found nice spots to get more quiet time on the boat. The ports were wonderful and the itinerary was great. Always lots of things to do. We are first time cruisers so we don't have much to compare it to though.

A fantastic journey by KurtC1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Epic / Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean

Overall, it was a wonderful experience. I would only suggest that because of the shere number of people on board--nearly 4,000--there were times when it was impossible to find a deck chair in the sun. The numbers also made the excursion process cumbersome. Also, regarding the excursions, the excursion coordinator (he provided an overview of all excursions early in the week) was seemingly uninformed and inarticulate. Although he may have know a great deal about the excursions he was unable to talk about them in a professional manner--poor public speaking skills and depth of understanding. The dining experiences were fantastic, the entertainment great, and the quality of service superb.

A Great Cruise by JimE

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Epic / Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean

Drink service was lacking. Takes forever to get a drink at a restaurant. One other issue is the internet access. We had iPads along and wanted to use them to connect. After using up the majority of our minutes trying to get them to work, we were told the iPads don't work. There is no notices or warnings about that so beware. We wasted about $55 to find out we can't use iPads. Otherwise a great ship with lot of things to do

Magnificent Cruise by OscarA1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Epic / Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean

Absoulute the best 7 day cruise we have taken in many years cruising. NCL has mastered the industry with their superb broadway style entertainment for all the family to enjoy. The crew was great and definitely customer oriented from most cruise lines.

It was okay. by AmandaS3

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Epic / Destination: Transatlantic

It was just okay. We also took a transatlantic cruise though, so my opinion may have been different if we had just cruised the Caribbean. It was an older crowd, which was disappointing, but I should have realized that before I booked it. Also the weather was rather cold. Only 60's during the day and pretty windy as well. The food was disappointing compared to Celebrity Cruise Lines. If we didn't want to pay extra to eat, we had only 2 options (which both offered the same menu) unless we went to the buffet. There was very little to choose from and the taste was rather bland. If we wanted to pay an extra $10-25 per person to go to the specialty restaurants, we did get good food. That was the main difference between Norwegian and Celebrity. On Celebrity we had great food every night and it wasn't extra. Also, I do feel like we had to pay extra for a lot of things (i.e. pool, air hockey, darts, bowling, etc...). It ended up being pretty expensive in the end. I would have rather paid more money up front for better quality.

NEVER AGAIN!!! by AllanL1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Norwegian Epic / Destination: Caribbean - Western

I wrote a long review earlier but pressed the send button and it said I had timed out............ So I am coming back again but will nto again waste too much time on this site...... Basically understand that NCL does not want you to relax nor do they want to provide a complete experience like other cruise lines do (I have benn on many week or two week cruises in the last ten years and I can compare fairly)........ without paying for everything you want to do, and high prices........ See a show, $20 each for crappy seats and a fixed menu, boling advertised at sea, $5 per game per person......... meals, the same food daily and nothing expensive....... unless you want to go to the ten specialty restaurants........ and pay $5 for a bowl of soup for starters! Want bottled water, tiny bottle $2,50, larger bottle, over $5............ a tiny glass of soda, $2.50............. They don;t have enough seating for their shows so you must book in advance all your activities............. and honestly we walked out of all of them as they were so boring............. Blue Man group takes tens minute sto throw marshmallows into each others mouths............ it gets redundant after awhile... Roayl Carribean the total opposite,,,,,,,,,,, no extra charges for 90% of what you want to do.............. AIDA, the German cruis line, you would be amazed at all the lobster, free Heinekin and carafes of wine at your table each meal............. filtered water and gas water at spigots in the hallways! But not on NCL.... want even room service more than cereal and you will pay........... even juice agter 10 AM, cost us almost $3 each time! Forget it............... other cruise lines you relax... at NCL you are soaked and soaked and come home broke.......
