Review summary

We loved the specialty restaurants, food was very good, the main dining room was great, the main shows were outstanding but we didn't like the ship or stateroom design. We love Norwegian but not this ship. We won't sail on the Epic again. We have been on many of Norwegian's ships and the Epic design pales in comparison. We didn't care for the way they set up their entertainment venues either (excluding the theater). Putting their best performances in the smallest of venues when they had much larger more accomadating venues that were under utlized.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
The main dining room, specialty restaurants were excellent. The buffet was OK but it was so spread out you walked all over the place looking for particular dishes. We loved Bistro and Teppanyaki and the Cirque Epicurean.

Onboard Activities

2 out of 5
Not a lot going on of significance. The pools are very tiny. If you like Bingo, art auctions, movies and jewelry shows you will be fine otherwise not much.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
The Burn the Floor, Cirque and Prascilla were outstanding. Unlike many we weren't offended by the theme of Prascilla. The Epic Beatles were fantastic but they put them in the smallest venue on the ship (Cavern) and you could hardly get in. They have a wonderful big lounge with a dance floor - Bliss that was very under utilized, they should have put the Beatles in there. We love to dance but you could barely get into the Cavern and if you got to the dance floor plan on staying there is was shoulder to shoulder standing room. The comedians were great. We weren't fans of the dueling pianos - not what we expected.

Children's Programs

No kids

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
All the staff was polite and good at their jobs. Our room stewards were excellent.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
The ship and all the areas were very clean as was or stateroom but the ship's design was not. Tiny pools, and bar areas for the number of people on the ship. The layout of the buffet area was confusing at best. Access to many of the entertainment venues other than the theater were difficult - small spaces used for big draw performances. No midship elevators only aft and forward.

Cabin / Stateroom

2 out of 5
The bed was comfortable the cleanliness was perfect but they layout of the cabin was ridiculous. You walked in and immediately on your left was the shower stall and on your right was the toilet. Each right inside the door with curved opaque glass doors on each. If you were getting out of the shower and someone came in the cabin you would be right there naked. There was a curtain between the sleeping area and the shower/toilet but nothing to provide privacy from the stateroom entrance door to you getting out of the shower. The lighting in the room was terrible fortunately I brought a small battery powered mirror for makeup and shaving otherwise it was ridiculous. The space between the end of the bed and the storage mirror area was tiny, If you sat on the stool to apply makeup or dry your hair your cabinmate had to climb over the bed to get to the closet. We love Norwegian but definitely not the design of this ship.

Ship tip

Plan on a crowded room with no privacy to shower. We had a balcony room don't know what the inside rooms were like. Maybe splurge for a suite.
