Great cruise, the HAL staff make the entire trip wonderful. The ship is tired, but the staff and service made the trip excellent. I will be more careful about picking updated ships in the future, but HAL meets all of our needs. Great food, good entertainment, the best of itineraries, other cruisers are mature (like us). We had bridge lessons and organized bridge which helped us meet people and made the sea days very short. If you like sea days this is the itinerary for you.

The ship layout and cleanliness was excellent. However this ship needs a serious update. The decor is very tired.

Ship tip
Wait to sail until the ship is updated. The shipboard entertainment systems (TVs and in cabin entertainment) are outdated. The furniture is very clean, but worn.
Oolala cruise to a private island was one of the best excursions of the trip. Great experience, snorkeling, glass bottomed boat, crew singing. Nice amenities.
Another great stop. Did a HAL excursion, Wildlife and Waterways, one of the best HAL tours. Short walk through a tropical forest to a waterfall, then on to a farm for sheep and wonderful wine and steak lunch, then to a wildlife sanctuary. Up close hand feeding of kangaroos, pictures with Koalas, views of Tasmanian Devils (ugly little creatures) and many other animals. Great guide. Great day.
Did a private car tour of the area and Christchurch. Used Vinz Tinz, Marina was the guide. Car was a comfortable small SUV, got to see the countryside without a busload of other people. Will do more of this in the future for sure. Great price for a memorable tour.
