Wonderful Cruise! by vanluu

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)

We had a great time on vacation this year. This is the first time we have traveled by cruise. Especially, my kids love the water park, pools, kid clubs, and Broadway shows so much. We enjoyed it.

MSC Cruise: College Dream Turned Nightmare by nehadk2707

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: MSC Meraviglia

Our much-anticipated Bahamas trip, a big deal for us college students who had saved up for it, turned into a mess at the last minute. They suddenly switched the plan to Canada, and that was a problem for one of us who was an international student and couldn't get a visa for Canada OVERNIGHT. The journey, which should have been a joyful 8-hour ride from different places like North Carolina and Pennsylvania to Washington DC, where we'd all meet and travel together, turned into a stressful ordeal. We spent the entire trip with our phones stuck to our ears, desperately trying to reach customer service since the night the itinerary changed. Unfortunately, the office closed at 9 pm, and our calls were left unanswered. It felt like even the robots were on vacation, leaving us stranded with worries and no updates about our cruise. Customer Care? More Like "Don't Care": Finally, a voice broke through the silence. But instead of sympathy, we got a slap in the face. "Go to port for info," they said, knowing full well that by then, it was too late for visa magic. HOURS wasted, hearts sinking, we hit the port. Thankfully, one port staff member actually cared. He couldn't fix the mess, but at least he had a pulse. The rest? Cold, robotic faces saying unhelpful lines like "future cruise credit." Future cruise credit for college students with empty wallets and no free semesters? Seriously?! There was a woman named Michelle, the customer care "angel" who promised a full refund? Poof! Gone by morning, replaced by other people who sang the "future credit" tune. We begged, we pleaded, we cried, but we were offered no help. The only refund we got came from the parking garage. They, unlike MSC, understood human tragedy. Apparently, their refund policy has more empathy than an entire cruise line. Speaking of policy, where's the fine print about itinerary changes that ruin your life? Or the clause promising robots instead of humans for customer care? This cruise wasn't just expensive, it was a masterclass in deception. We just want our money back, which wasn't a small amount – $145 for taxes and port fees out of the $350 we paid for the cruise was also not refunded (they promised to refund 145 dollars in a week) It might not be a big deal for MSC, but for us, six college students, it's like a whole semester surviving on just ramen noodles. Beyond the financial, this ordeal was emotionally brutal. Panic attacks, breakdowns, tears – you name it, we had it. The trauma doesn't wash off with ocean water. The Bottom Line: If you're looking for a relaxing escape, avoid MSC Cruises. They're not in the vacation business, they're in the heartbreak business. Save your money, your sanity, and go build sandcastles somewhere else. This was, without a doubt, the worst vacation experience of our lives. And to MSC: Shame on you. You may have our money, but you'll never have our forgiveness. Your robots have hearts of ice, and your policies are written in invisible ink. You may sail across the ocean, but you'll never escape the stain of six broken dreams.

Bon voyage! by wolfsburg

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: MSC Meraviglia

First MSC cruising by chris20162016

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: MSC Meraviglia

When we booked a room, we planned for all other things like internet and excursions as well. I paid for a ONE device internet service (It is really for one device. You cannot logout and login to another device. I had to pay more for my laptop after waited online to ask why my service is locked.) For the excursions, when we tried to book though its website, the website was showing everything was full booked. We had to book through BJs. This was what we regret the most because we found out there were still excursions available when we were in the ship.

Great trip! by syocher

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: MSC Meraviglia

3 great ports. Only drawback was that I was traveling with my handicapped father. Usually, he does fine with a cane, but the marble floors in front of all the major elevators where very slippery for him so we had to work with the staff to borrow a wheelchair. He usually doesn't need one and we hadn't thought to request one in advance of embarkation.

Loved trying new things! by mindidauria

Be sure to visit the Anchor Bar. The bar staff is great together and very attentive. Mark will not only make great drinks but often sings with the musicians. The shows are good but not spectacular compared to other cruise lines. The ship is gorgeous and make sure to see a dome show.

Amazing Experience & Excellent Value for Money by amirasariahwill

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: MSC Meraviglia

I absolutely loved this cruise. It’s very kid-friendly but there’s also a section for “Adults Only.” Drinks were amazing so make sure you purchase a drink package because you will need it lol. The food was surprisingly amazing and had different varieties every day. Their Broadway shows on board were sooooo good— wow! I would absolutely cruise with MCS again.

Splendid 8 Days!!! by CelestialWind

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: MSC Meraviglia

For my first time cruising, I have to say it was a wonderful experience and has made me a cruise junkie I'm afraid. I'm actually planning my next cruise for next year, which will be a transatlantic cruise. I'm so excited!! A cruise is all about you and what you want it to be!! So just relax and be patient and just enjoy yourself. Don't let the small stuff interfere with your happiness!!!

A good cruise but there is room for improvement by leverj01

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: MSC Meraviglia

MCS Meraviglia Overall, the ship was very nice although a little bit on the disco side with lots of chrome, however the food and the entertainment were high points. The ship has been well maintained and the rooms were comfortable although, as with most cruise ships, storage is at a premium. The majority of the frustration was associated with packages or the need for some information systems improvement. On the positive side was definitely the food which was above average and on par with a premium cruise line. The gala night was a particular stand out with excellent lobster and steak that can stand up to most specialty restaurants and is included in the complementary restaurant. My suggestion is to ask your waiter on the first night when the gala night will be so that you can make sure to be in the restaurant for that meal even if you make no others. The entertainment was also very good with a variety of different shows providing excellent entertainment in the evenings with a 45-minute timeframe. The staff was friendly and accommodating although at times not particularly well-trained for the position they were occupying. Although the ship was at full capacity other than a few key spots such as the buffet or the central corridor just after a show the amount of people was not that noticeable. This is definitely a family-oriented ship and on our cruise, there were a high percentage of children and young adults. The ship does however have several adult areas which the staff actively strives to keep the proper age bracket in these areas. Taking away from the experience was some of the areas which need improvement or better training. One of these examples is the drink package which depending on the level of package you get does not work in many of the locations such as any of the specialty restaurants or the pub (which also charges for the food) and because of the limitations of the package it?s very easy to think that you were going to get money off on a drink when in fact you will pay the full price plus gratuity. An example of this would be that you get only one beer selection and any other beer is excluded from the drink package or the pricing discount. These difficulties are further exaggerated by crew that either don?t know or won?t take the time to give you your discount on drinks which are not included in the package. This is particular true in any of the high-volume bars such as the pool or the entertainment venues. Since MSC has decided to go completely paperless in many cases you never see a receipt and many of the crew members do not inform you that you will be charged above the drink package. During our cruise we had to go back to a bar or customer service 3 times to get charges corrected and reminded crewmembers several other times to include the drink package discount. In addition to the drink package the dining package may have some ?features? which may make you feel a bit underwhelmed. Although the food in the specialty restaurants was excellent, if you?re using a dining package you are only allowed to select off of a submenu for the ?dining experience? in some of the venues. Although there are several selections on these menus, some of the more popular items such as crabcakes appetizers or Seabass were not part of the allowed selections. You could buy them for a 50% reduction to the standard price in addition to the price already paid. Outside the packages the other MAJOR point of irritation was the speed of the IT systems. This was particularly true whenever you are trying to get on or off of the ship it took 3 to 4 seconds from the time the cabin card was scanned until the information came up for validation. To put this in perspective when you come into port if only two thirds of the passengers wanted to get off (2000 people) it will take anywhere from an 1.5 -2.0 hours if you are at the end of the line and believe me the line is long and slow, as typically there is only one or two stations running. The slowness was also seen at other places such as the bars slowing down drink service considerably. In summary I would say that MCS Meraviglia was an enjoyable cruise and a good value with meals and entertainment as high points. But you must read and understand carefully what you are buying with the packages and where are these limitations. You can also expect delays any time you are either getting on or off the ship.
