We were on the same cruise, and just want to point out that the Brooklyn terminal is a hot mess. MSC has no control over that as they want people (who spent their money) off and new people (who have money) on ASAP. We showed up at 9:00 and were on the ship at a bar before 10:30, and saw the line was 100 people deep out of the terminal door by then.

People either love or hate MSC. I have found the food to be similar to or better than that on Carnival, Royal Caribbean and other lines. The menu is more European than many Americans are used to, but the food is good.

Do not know about MSC, but other lines have rovers at the baggage areas to guide you to the shuttle staging area. Also, your paperwork should have said where to go and a y least a phone number. There is also a time window, but if it took you 2.5 hours then you probably were within that window. Sorry that most of your trip was not as good as others found it. Try another line like Princess or Celebrity for your second cruise.
