Great Alaskan Cruise by DJK286

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Island Princess / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

This was our second Alaska Cruise with Princess, and both of them were excellent. We enjoyed the first one 10 years ago that we always wanted to come back. This was the year. We took the land portion of the Cruise and visited the McKinley Lodge, the Denali Lodge, and for the first time we went to the Copper River Lodge. The Copper River Lodge was well worth the trip. We took the ATV Adventure with Big John, and had an extremely entertaining time, and saw parts of Alaska that were beautiful. At the Copper River Lodge, we found that it was very organized and extremely clean. This appeared to be due to the manager who was always around and seemed eager to assist with any request. Could not say enough about the quality of care that everyone showed at Copper River. We did get some real assist from the Manager of the Gift Shop at McKinley Lodge. I had a brand new shirt in a wrapper that was mislabeled as to size. She was able to find me several tee shirts in a size that would fit me. I owe her for making a day that would have been miserable into one that I truly enjoyed. Thank You!! I would also like to mention Monica Membery from the Grizzly Bar and Grill. She had a Great attitude and was willing to go the extra mile to make her customers happy. She is a model employee, and when I was in business, I would have liked to have a full crew of employees like her.

Did the Alaska Landcruise from... by sdr1958

Sail date: /
Ship: Island Princess

Did the Alaska Landcruise from Fairbanks to Vancouver. Do the land portion first as it is exhausting. We had aft facing balcony. It was wonderful. Very fortunate that every port was sunshiney. Even glacier bay! The Island was a good ship especially Benji and Marcel...bartenders.

Fabulous PrincessAs smooth as could be expected Adventure by tedd

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Island Princess / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

I would highly recommend Princess Cruise Line for anyone goin to Alaska. And definitely, whenever possible, do both the land and sea voyages. If you are going to go that far, do all you can to get the full experience. I would do it again sometime in the future and add even farther north destinations beyond Fairbanks.

We took this cruise as a 25th anniversary gift to ourselves and had an amazing time. We relaxed, enjoyed the magnificent scenery, dined on some wonderful meals, had some amazing excursions and learned so much about Alaska.

Beyond all expectations by happyda

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)

The cruise was better than we could have imagined. There were so many options for eating, a variety of activities going on all the time, and beauty all around. We saw so much wildlife and thoroughly enjoyed the naturalists insights and tips. It was a fantastic experience especially with 4 days of land added beforehand.

Cruise was our 4th time to cruise Alaska.  We enjoyed this time as much as before.  Highly recommend the cruise and Princess.  Only disappointment was the Island Princess doesn't have all the items we like such as steak restaurant, pastry shop and ice cream shop.

Room for improvement by Rodon54

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Island Princess / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

Overall it was very good and food was good and plentiful.  Don't fall for the implications that the dining that requires a $29 p/p cover charge is better than what's included with your tickets. We did for our anniversary dinner and it was the worst of the non-buffet meals we had. Excellent logistics in handling tours and luggage!  We had some luggage damage, but crew members resolved the issue to our satisfaction.  Prizes for onboard games need to be more varied. We stopped playing because we didn't want any more foam fingers, cheap decks of generic playing cards, or cheap sparkling wine. Why not some "Princess" logo items?

The cruise staff was extremely helpful. The ship was clean and nice. The only complaint was the sofa beds, they were terrible. The scenery was spectacular.

Overall a good experience by DebSherman60

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Island Princess / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

Princess does an excellent job with logistics; you never feel like you're spending all of your vacation standing in line.  The crew is generally very friendly and helpful.  The food is very good.  We enjoyed all of our excursions and felt that Princess made good choices in the companies they worked with, even though we felt that some were more expensive than was warranted.  We were celebrating a special birthday and we didn't really expect much so we weren't disappointed. The credit for the spa could only be used on a port day, and who stays on the ship on a port day?!  We had a family member buy us a special breakfast in our room for the occasion; this included a coffee card for 15 free premium coffees.  The problem was that we didn't get this until the day before disembarkation!  These things were little, as was the "prize" we won of a crystal paperweight that had a koala bear and Australia etched on it - we were in Alaska!  The only real complaint we had though was the bathroom in our stateroom.  We paid the extra money for a mini-suite so that we would have a real bathtub/shower combo instead of the tiny shower in the regular rooms, and the tub was very narrow and had a low ceiling and for some reason the shower curtain was constantly blowing in against our bodies.  The tub area was also moldy and rusty.  My husband is not inclined to use Princess again because of the bathroom situation, but other than that we were mostly pleased.

Terrible Customer Service from start to finish by NotPrincess

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Island Princess / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

I have never had such a poor experience as what I just went through with this trip.  From the fact that my flights were never booked properly from the beginning even though I was told it was taken care of (causing me to spend an extra $1,100), to the fact that no one has called me to try to resolve this issue after multiple, multiple attempts to do so - to the poor customer service and lack of knowledge of the Princess employees at the lodges and on the boat.... to the final disembarkation without having been given a customs form, I will rate this as one of the worst traveling experiences I have ever had and I travel quite a bit.  I have done this cruise twice before on another carrier and had excellent experiences.  The fact that I was a suite customer who was put on hold for 30 minutes and then had the call dropped twice, to the fact that my shower broke in my suite - terrible, terrible terrible.  Now would someone please call me to resolve my issues???????

Alaskan Cruise on the Island Princess by eagertogo

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Island Princess / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

The ship was beautiful and well maintained.  Food (including desert) was excellent.  Production shows were the best we've seen on any cruise.  We were in B202, mini-suite with window.  Excellent choice for a cold cruise.  Temps ran in the 50s (maybe) during the day, so bring many layers.  Our first day at sea we cruised Hubbard Bay.  The iceburgs were still too thick, so we were unable to get very close to the glacier.  The second day we cruised through the Glacier National Park.  We were able to get very close to the glacier and it was awesome.  The cracking of the ice as it plunged into the water sounded like thunder.  The next day was Skagway.  Beautiful hike out to the cemetary and Lower Ried Falls.  Also hiked around Dewey Lake.  Juneau and Ketchikan were both nice, but we liked Skagway the best.

Cuisine did not deliver. by skifar

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Island Princess / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

First of all I have to say that the crew and staff were amazing.  I give all of them ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.  They were attentive, friendly and very helpful.  Great attitudes and seemed so happy to be there.  The ship was amazing and our stateroom with the balcony was perfect.  Comfortable bed and pillows, bathroom bigger than expected, and our steward freshened our room twice a day which was very nice.  Everything about the cruise was everything I had hoped for except the food.  I have to give the food portion of the cruise only ⭐️⭐️&1/2 stars.  I'm not a food snob by any means but one thing I am picky about is the temperature of my food and every hot item we were served was warm at best.  It seemed like everything was prepared and plated in advance waiting to be brought out to the table.  I realize that the ship has at least 2,000 people on board to feed but with people distributed in several different restaurants at a time, the quality could have been better.  I would have appreciated quality over quantity.  We did go to the specialty "Crab Shack" dinner one night and that was wonderful.  I was disappointed because this was our first cruise and I had always heard such rave reviews on dining but I can honestly say it was just fair to mediocre.

Reflections by Doughnut

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Island Princess / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

our favorite part of the cruise tour was the land. We had an escorted tour and Liz Bell was a fabulous guide. Very knowledge and even made dinner reservations for us each evening. We loved Mt. McKinley Lodge, Telketnia river float trip, and the train ride gave us glimpses of wildlife along the way. The morning we left McKinley Lodge we were ask to have our luggage out at 6:30 am and we were not scheduled to leave until 12:00 noon. 5 1/2 hours is much to much time  to eat breakfast. Activities need to be scheduled or tour needs to leave earlier. Too big of a time gap with nothing to do.

Had a great time! by kbrit

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Island Princess / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

This was a 25th Anniversary cruise for my husband and I.  We had a great time and the hi-lite of the trip was the helicopter/glacier/dogsledding tour out of Skagway.  It was amazing to see the glacier close up and be able to see some of the beautiful state from a birds eye view.  While our suite on the ship (PR727) was beautiful, it was super cold (heat was not working properly) and does have a vibration/noise while the engines are running.  It was so cold in our room that we kept our winter jackets on while sitting in the room.  The food in the restaurants was amazing each and every time we went there!  Especially the Bayou Cafe and Steakhouse, the filet mignon was one of the best I've had.  The buffet needs to have more vegetable choices though.  Lots of different meats and pastas but very little with vegetables unless your looking for a salad.  All in all it was a great cruise.

veggie food available for middle aged people by kaymittal

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Island Princess / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

veggie food was very unhealthy and horrible in taste.  very first two days, Indian Food had way too much salt and green chilli.  after many complaints, still we faced the same music.  we were group of 10 people and survived by eating salad and pastry.  too much quantity of food and very poor quality.  too many meat items and nothing much for veggie people.  on the top of that, food was very unhealthy.  someone needs to pay attention on taste and heath.  due to bad tasting food, too much wastage of food. Poeple fill their plates like dogs and trash them due to bad taste and unhelathy reasons.  please stop wastage via providing quality food.  no one needs 200 hundred items. cut down on items and provide quality.

Amazing Cruise by goseacruising

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Island Princess / Destination: Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

I loved everything about the Island Princess, Princess cruise lines and Alaska! What I upsets me is all of the people who go on to post only negative reviews. This trip was amazing from start to finish. I wish we could have had better weather in our first two ports, but that is the only thing I would change if I could. Princess upgraded us from the obstructed ocean view cabin to an unobstructed ocean view cabin at no charge. We were then offered a balcony cabin at a very good price and took them up on the offer. We are so glad that we did! Once we got to Glacier Bay our Balcony was the place to be. The sky's were clear the sun shone bright and  ship cruised in so close to Marjorie glacier. The views were spectacular. The shower was on the small side, but it proved to be sufficient for personal hygiene and if we wanted to enjoy relaxing in hot water the hot tubs on board are a wonderful place for that. The crew goes above and beyond what is expected at every level. Big Smile
