Food and accommodations by azaporozhski1

Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

In whole we enjoyed the cruise and services. Especially we liked The Guest Service. At the same time if to compare this cruise with the cruises from two-three years ago we noticed that that food selection became narrower in all the dinning rooms. The grooming accessories in the bathroom were insufficient. The Queen Bed was not fixed properly and was constantly separating (with a large gap between beds).

Best vacation ever! by dmarie924

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

We had the time of our lives on this cruise! We loved the ship and enjoyed the intimacy of a smaller ship. The staff was EXCEPTIONAL and service impeccable. We enjoyed every single island and appreciated how different each stop was. We are already anxiously counting down the days until we can go on another cruise!

Caribbean Cruise Review by jmpage16

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

I was very pleased with this cruise for a number of reasons. I thought the variety of entertainment was excellent, and there was something for every age group. The food was wonderful, in every venue that we ate. We especially enjoyed our dinners in the Great Gatsby dining room! The waiters were VERY attentive and went above and beyond to make sure that our experience was a great one. Our waiters were Francesco and Alexander - EXCELLENT job from the both of them!!!

If I were to have anything negative to say about this cruise I would suggest more than one self-serve ice cream machine, and it would be great if it was available after 8:30 in the evening. I also thought the customer service at the photo shop was below average. One employee, Kevin, was particularly cold and borderline rude to us as we purchased just one photo and nothing else.

All in all it was a great experience.

Grandeur Cruise by jlautieri785

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Not a great cruise, food was average in dinning room, had 3 bad meals, and waiter should be a dish washer (Ajay), Assistant Waiter Barrington was great he made the meals enjoyable.  Not my greatest experience on the Grandeur.

3 Times the waiter gave me the wrong meal and 3 times he served me before all the ladies at the table breach of protocol and shows poor judgment. Head waiter exceptional.

Love cruising! by WV1stTimers

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

The eastern Caribbean Cruise was beautiful. The grandeur of the seas was a nice ship. Not much to do a lot of elderly people on this ship. The crew was friendly we only got 2 towel animals the whole cruise:( Not a big selection on food in windjammer. After a certain time coffee was old cold and strong. Water and ice machine broke. Beds to low to floor and very hard. We enjoyed our cruise but prefer carnival but would go again on this ship. Teri Whitmire was awesome from cruise.com . We LOVE CRUISING!!!!!!!

Not up to par as normal by crittercraig

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

I have cruised with Royal at least 6 times and was very disappointed with this last one. Their were many things not up to standard with my other cruises. Especially this ship and it's workers. Many of the crew were not friendly as usual on other cruises.

The hand sanitizers were many times empty and there was not always somebody there to suggest their use. Twice the toilets in the public rest rooms would not flush and had been used over and over. There was empty hand soap dispensers also in the bathrooms .

I have gotten ill twice on my cruises, both times on this ship.

The ship in general needs much repair and a good dress up. The night before our last warm day, they decided to empty and paint part of the pool, refilling it with COLD water for our use on the last day it could be used.

Grandeur of the Sea made a wonderful and relaxing vacation. by ppearl

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Our vacation was really great, I would like to have had seminars on what to do and/or see on the stops rather than all the seminars on shopping.  There is only so much shopping one can do or need.  The entertainment was Top of the Line as far as we were concerned as was the food, service and assistance given.

Overall good cruise by ept928

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Because of norovirus concerns and extra sanitation, the first few days were not as good as usual but it was overall a good cruise. The convenience of parking and boarding at Baltimore is great. This is nice time of year to get away to the warm caribbean at a very reasonable cost. Will be doing it again next year.

Loved the islands and the staff too. by MeandTony

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Due to the illness on ship on previous cruise before ours, many of the little amenities were missing (towel animals, writing material, children's activities, singing waiter, etc.).  Much of the crew were kept too busy sanitizing everything including us.  But no one got sick on this trip.  The staff went out of their way to make up for any inconvenience and the ports were great.

A great vacation! by scottylathe

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

I love the Grandeur of the seas that departs from my home port!  Great price and a great experience!  The crew was amazing keeping us safe from any GI upset.  Wonderful amenities and I can't say enough good things about everything available on the ship.  I do want the poolside servers though, to make more of an effort to wait on you and engage you (reason for a 4 instead of a 6)  Otherwise just phenomenal!

Not a luxury cruise by travelsingle

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

I have been on many cruises and this one was *not* among my favorites.  I was very surprised at the lack of amenities and quality/variety of food.  If you don't like the smell of smoke, this cruise is not for you with a large smoking area just outside the eating area (Windjammer) and smoke permeating the whole casino.  The cruise was delayed because of a virus during the last sailing (understandable) but, even after they let us on they did not seem to be ready for guests for several days, everything being stripped from the rooms and not returned.  I was in a balcony room and had maintenance come to fix a squealing, rattling door that stayed fixed for one day.  The staff did not seem to be trained in all of the jobs they were supposed to do and supervisors seemed disrespectful to some of them.  This seems so out of character for Royal Caribbean, but they seemed to be cutting corners (efficiencies?).  The entertainment was excellent and plentiful and the "my time" seating worked well, so you might enjoy this, but I won't be doing it again.  I really like going out of Baltimore, but I think I will stick with Celebrity, even though I will have to go to Florida.  (We ran into really bad weather on the way home and many people got sick for more than two days - not the cruise line's fault, but pretty miserable).

Not this ship never by gerandchuck

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

First off it was a small ship use to explorer,it seemed so outdated, there was less choices with everything, so it was a little dissapointing, the staff worked hard ,very good, felt bad for them, the norovirus with large number of people and staff, was unexpected and understandable, but it was like a hospital ship not vacation, and we had to come to port day sooner and lost day at  labidee, that was dissapointing. There was a sick passenger, which i am glad they put a sick person first they should, and we returned to port, weather was bad and seas were very bad.which could not be helped it was january/feb..Was only reimbursed 75 for lost stop, and said i would receive letter for the day we lost with reimbursement on another cruise ,I was not happy with that.!!!!!!!. should have been my choice re reimbursement, Captain was trying to sugar coat the number of ill passengers ,i think they should have been upfront ,we all new something was up..Cdc was aboard...then i saw that the grandeaur of the sea has had norovirus twice  previously and now this one....If i could do it over i would pick a different ship...after this cruise (traveled with royal carribean 4 times),i will be considering other cruise lines..

The Crew, Staff and Entertainers worked so hard to keep us healthy and safe by cnancy1st

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

We've done a lot of cruising and we completely enjoy being on the sea.  This was the first time I've been sick and also my husband also got Montezuma's revenge about 5 days later, both happened to be sea days.   When we returned we heard that about 10% of the passengers got a noravirus, or something, not desirable.

Obviously someone or several people got on sick and I'm sure that the ship had no way of knowing who or what they were carrying with them.  When you have that many people, illness can travel quickly.  In spite of that I can say that all the staff worked their hardest to keep us healthy and safe.  They worked endless hours trying to keep the illness to a minimum and I know that was not easy.

This was not how we intended to vacation, but it happens.

Shows were great, stateroom cleanliness less than desirable by jbarnett33122

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

Staff was great while helping us to get on the ship (I was using a rolling walker due to back surgery); however, the day we disembarked, we were on our own and I was in tears because of pain by the time I got down all of the ramps. Our stateroom was not as clean as I would have preferred and although we enjoyed the towel animals, we only got 2 on an 8 day cruise. Picking up the "Cruise in Review" DVD was a difficult and frustrating experience and they offered no cardboard protection for the photographs that we purchased. The entertainment was great and we met some wonderful fellow cruisers on board.

Nice Cruise by donnaowens821

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Just got off the Granduler of the seas today had a great time. Crew was excellent as always. Food was great in the main dining room. Windjammer the food could have been a little more warmer. But the food we did have was great. Mike the cruise director was very good and energetic. Overall we had a marvelous time and already booked our next one on the Granduler.

LONG CRUISE, SMALL SHIP by MindyUpstateNY

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

My family and I enjoyed the cruise overall, but there are some elements that we didn't expect to have issue with.  Leaving from Baltimore puts you at sea for 2.5 days heading to Labadee, Haiti and then 3 days on the return trip to Baltimore.  Grandeur of the Seas is a fairly small ship, and we quite frankly ran out of things to do.  There were shows and trivia in the bars/lounges and of course the casino, but you can only keep entertained with these things for so long.  Most of the entertainment was geared towards a senior crowd (75% of the passengers), which myself, my husband, and 2 teenage daughters found to be a bit boring. We couldn't go up onto the pool deck because of the temps the first day and a half and last two days, so we were searching for something to do within the ship.  The staff and crew was amazing, and they were the highlight of the cruise.  Always accommodating and going out of their way to chat with us and keep us entertained.  The food was great, but I wouldn't recommend going to any of the specialty restaurants that are an extra charge - the food was comparable to what you are served in the main dining room each night.  Drinks were strong, which isn't a bad thing, but we are not quite sure that we drank enough to offset what we paid for the drink package. I would HIGHLY recommend that you sign up for excursions that get you out of the ports of call.  The ports are bombarded with locals trying to sell you stuff and you don't really get to see any of the landmarks, beautiful scenery, or natural areas of any of the destinations.  It is worth the extra money to get on a catamaran, a tour, something to get you out of the port.  In St. Thomas, we went on the 'Fast Cat Snorkeling and Honeymoon Beach Catamaran'  I would give that one 5 stars every day of the week.   Overall - we were on vacation in the Caribbean, so  I can't complain too much.  If you are going to spend the money on a cruise, spend the money to fly to Florida and get on a bigger ship.  Grandeur of the Seas is not the ship unless you enjoy a smaller ship and can self-entertain.

Baltimore cruise by ibdamommy

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

Grandeur of the Seas is an older ship. It was supposedly updated but has issues. Areas had to be closed due to leaking roofs. Loud dance music, nightly,  in the Centrum produced noise throughout hallways and cabins making it difficult to sleep. Breakfast times in the restaurant changed daily. The Windjammer buffet area was small so frequently cruisers could not find a table for eating. Wait staff and cabin stewards were excellent. Diamond and above cruises were offered nightly snacks and free well drinks in the Diamond Lounge, a nice benefit. Disembarkation process was difficult since, in Baltimore, many cruisers had individual transportation. Long lines wrapped around the lobby and the cruisers were sent around and through others waiting in line.

Good time, but some issues by redskins7

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Grandeur of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

The first problem was the ship was delayed 3 hours due to weather.  We arrived at the terminal at 11: AM and was told we had to wait in the parking lot or drop off point until 1: PM because no one would be allowed in there terminal,  Did I mention it was 30 degrees.  Although, Royal knew the ship was delayed, they didn't send an email alert until 12:30 PM when we were finally allowed in the terminal. Overall, food was good, (not necessary to pay extra for the special dining unless you want to). Entertainment was very good, something for all audiences.  The dining staff no longer sings and dances, big disappointment. The ports were excellent.  Six days at sea can get a little old.  The TV channels only had 2 English speaking channels except for the Royal advertising channels and CNN.  No major networks except when they want to show a football game.  The movie under stars needs to be available for viewing in the stateroom especially in the winter time. You'd think they would have figured that out by now. Our lead waiter made me feel very uncomfortable when I ordered more the one entrée during dinner. All previous cruises they were pushing food at you left and right.  By the time we got back, their were no bananas and potato chips just to name a few.  As a Platinum guest, I should have robes in the stateroom.  After 2 days onboard we were told they didn't have enough at check-in.  We only got them after asking our cabin steward for them.  No more mints on your pillow at night.  This was my 18th cruise so I know what to expect.  With this cruise I reached Emerald status, however, you're allowed to enjoy the benefits until your next cruise.  I didn't see that must difference between Platinum and Emerald.  Not sure when I will cruise with Royal again.  Average age for this cruise was 55+ (my estimate).   This is a smaller ship (2400 + guests) because the ship must navigate the Key and Bay Bridges.  This means that events in the main atrium are very crowded with limited seating, but everyone still manages to have fun.
