It was okay by KathleenL

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Mexico

First cruise in over 25 years. It was average. Food was not great but the staterooms were larger than I expected. Pools very small and just not enough hot tubs when you want to use one. The entertainment and shows started slowly but got better during the week. The bars and lounge areas were nice. Did not like the fact that the pop card is now $41.00 not the $22-$25.00 that is advertised on all Carnival information and websites. The embarkation process was ridiculous. THey were late in clearing out the ship (I understand there were some problems) but upon arrival at the pier, no staff there to advise you to either give your luggage to a porter or take it yourself; no one to tell you you must first sign in then go to a designated number. Many passengers like myself just plunked themselves behind people waiting and luckily were informed by other passengers on the proper procedures.

Shakedown Cruise by JeffreyE1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Mexico

This being the first cruise in nearly 3 months for Carnival Splender there we're a few hiccups. It was largely a new crew so problems we're to be expected. Aside from the dining room most everything ran fairly smoothly.

Ship + Food = Avg. by WaltA

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Mexico

The daily buffett was just that, nothing special. Main dining was rushed, food was good portion nice presentation for the most part...but enough with the steamed vegies and the luke warm food. Cabin with balcony was great as was house-keeping staff. Ship staff well organized getting passengers on and off ship at ports of call. Customs is starting to take a long time to process 3600 people in Long Beach Bus from airport to ship...good deal and no hassels. 15 to 20 min run.

Worst cruise ever by MichaelL23

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Mexico

By far this is the worst cruise Ive ever been on. For those that have cruised before, customer service is everything and this cruise line is by far the worst. I was told that the Splendor is a new ship of the Carnival Fleet. They forgot to mention that this was a new old ship. Everything in there seemed very old and just plain out cheap. I didnt mind them charging the gratuity of $140 for the room on the 3rd night, and for every alcohol beverage has an automatic $1.32 added to it. All staff serving alcohol do not care if you get the drink 30 minutes later because the tip is already added to the bill. Also, if you want to order water ,dont even bother because it cost $2 and they wont even give it to you. The staff there is horrible, but lets talk about the room. I have cruised 5 times with Royal Caribbean and now understand why I pay the extra $100 over the Carnival ticket. I had a great 5 cruises consistently with Royal Caribbean and it took only 1 time with Carnival to understand why. The room was level 8 interior but yet the T.V. remote was broken, shower head attachment leaks and sprays water on bathroom floor, safe doesnt lock, light bulbs flicker on and off. The bed was suppose to be 1 bed for my fianc and I, but it was 2 beds put together with a sheet over it so when the boat rocks the beds pull apart to create a crack for you to fall in. Finally, to finish of my cruise we came with 3 other couples totaling 8 people. Went to breakfast at seated dining with 6 and the other couple decided to show up so we asked for a bigger table to fit 8 people. The waiter told me they can sit at another table, instead of seating us at the big table for 8 behind us that was open.

first time cruiser and it was great by AlL

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Mexico

The Carnival Splendor as of this writing is only 3 years old.. so she appears just like new. The ship layout can at times be confusing.. esp decks, 3,4 and 5. some of those decks are blocked by restaurants or other shops.. and you can't go from one end of the ship to the other on those three decks. Solution.. travel from front to rear or vice versa on decks 1 and 2 and you will have no problem. This ship is big.. and makes good use of space. Lots to see and do on Splendor.

Good starter 7 day cruise by ArtI

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Mexico

The kids' camp was great. The shows were great including the comedian. Houskeeping was amazing and so were the waiters at the restaurant. Debarkation at end of trip was a nightmare. Took 5.5 hours to get off the ship. My biggest concern was the price of drinks, be it alcolic or non.

Lovely ship! Wish the crew members and passengers could get some counseling services when someone is lost during a cruise.

An Event to Remember by EdwardS4

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)

The ship was awkwardly laid out as compared to its Royal Carribean counterparts. Up/down ... whoops wrong staircase / the dining room is in the way again / oops have to get around the casino somehow.

"Great Cruise!" by Joe52273753

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Mexico

My wife and I are 49 and 54. We purchased a Stateroom with a large ocean view. Instead, we got two port holes, "oh well". We had a great cruise experience and met some good friends. Our dinner partners were from Arizona and we are from California. We sailed to the Mexican Riviera. Our Sailing date was 10-10-10. My wife and I celebrated our 23rd wedding anniversary on 10-12-10. The Carnival Splendor was amazing, it's like a brand new ship! Even though we were disapointed not to get the window we paid for. We have sailed with Carnival twice and once with Royal Caribbean, and all we can say is "Wow. But it would have been nice to get what we purchased. "So watch what you pay for". We really like Royal Caribbean's style and service. Carnival was alot of fun, and the service was really great. We were not impressed with the Carnival Splendor's nightlife options. The shows were great but the clubs were not exciting. We missed the different night out feeling we got with Royal Caribbean. Our stateroom was cozy and very clean with plenty of storage areas. Overall we have to say the ship was impressive, the staff was wonderful as always, and if you have never sailed before and have KIDS, the Splendor is worth a try.

The spa is the main reason we booked this particular ship. The spa amenities are well worth the stateroom upgrade!!

A wonderful Cruise by Blaine47401801

We liked the professionalism of the Carnival Staff in getting us aboard, giving us help when we ask for anything and making our Cruise very enjoyable. We felt there was no pressure to do things we did not want to do and the Captain and his crew was very helpful in giving us updates and alerts to all things happing on our Cruise.

Pretty Nice by KyleS

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Mexico

Ship is pretty nice. We had a spa deck room which gave us free access to the Spa and that was sweet, highly recommend the spa deck. Got a table for 2 at the Dining room, which isn't much fun, but our server was weak and disinterested in our table, only ate at the dining room 3 times because of this. Room service was always running behind, but decent. Pinnacle steakhouse was exceptional. Highly recommend it. Food overall was good for Carnival. Short port in Cabo sucked, Mazatlan is a dump in my opinion. Decent cruise.
