Review summary

The Carnival Splendor as of this writing is only 3 years old.. so she appears just like new. The ship layout can at times be confusing.. esp decks, 3,4 and 5. some of those decks are blocked by restaurants or other shops.. and you can't go from one end of the ship to the other on those three decks. Solution.. travel from front to rear or vice versa on decks 1 and 2 and you will have no problem. This ship is big.. and makes good use of space. Lots to see and do on Splendor.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
food in the Lido buffet was good overall. A few dishes were just so so. But you'll find that in any buffet. Plenty of other good food to eat though. You will not go hungry. The Pinnace steakhouse on Carnival Splendor was top notch. I give it my highest rating possible. Everyone must eat there at least one time during their cruise. or you will be missing out on some excellent food prepared by top chefs. Wait staff also meets their high standards... the whole dinner experience in the Pinnace steakhouse was superb. Highly recommend the Pinnace steakhouse. Do not miss it.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Entertainment quality was very high. Some of the shows were Las Vegas quality. The singer and dancers were so good. Very professional. They surely knew their parts. I was very impressed with the shows. Cruise Director John Heald was also top notch. we were lucky enough to have him be our CD. He is funny. The guest show which he Emcee'd was so good. Funny, funny unre-hearsed.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
staff from top to bottom were excellent. Everyone was friendly and always greeted us with a good morning, good afternoon or good evening. Every day and all throughout the day too. Very helpful and knowledgeable cabin stewards, bar tenders. wait staff, and everyone else.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
overall loved the ship.. a bit better layout of some of the decks would have helped. The "pink" decor everyone talks about wasn't to bad.. although at times it can be a bit over the top. It looks like a bad Vegas designer designed the Splendor. A bit gaudy at times.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
room size for two people is just right. We had more than enough storage space. Three closets, several drawers, coat hangers and hooks everywhere. If you run out of storage space then that only means you brought way to much clothes for your cruise. LOL

Ports of call

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

3 out of 5
I didn't have much time to do a whole lot in PV, because we booked a canopy tour which took up most of our time in the port.. overall from what we were able to see and do though.. we liked Puerto Vallarta a lot.

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

3 out of 5
Cabo San Lucas is a bit to commercial for my tastes. You have all the American chain restaurants, which is to much like being in any US city. Maybe if we had time to venture out away from the city more.. it would have been different. You can of couse seek out those more authentic local businesses though.. which we highly recommend.. Eat, shop and support their local businesses.

Mazatlan, Mexico

5 out of 5
Can't really give much of an opinion.. because we booked an excursion outside of the city of Mazatlan... our time in Mazatlan was a good experience though.
Don't Miss: Sierra Madre tour.

Pros: staff was top notch

Cons: short port calls
