Overall good experience but some glitches by airahkah

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Canada, New England, New York

Held up in customs, told staff several times about a scheduled shore excursion but sat for an hour & a half, missed our scheduled departure. They got us on the next bus leaving but we were rushed through something we had scheduled ample time for. Steakhouse booked 2 days in advance so we ordered a filet & strip in main dining & were told our room cards were rejected. Guest services blamed it on a satellite glitch

They do not care about personal hygiene. by ryanchoinj

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Canada, New England, New York

crew member didn't impose to use sanitizer at any places in ship.

Food was not delicious.

Night entertainment was not good, even skipped.

There was a smell of stale urine at restroom of stateroom.

Crew members have a fixed expression on their face at most of places.

Nice 5 day weekend by MIKE487

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Canada, New England, New York

The service onboard was outstanding.  I highly recommend the main dining rooms for meals.  The food quality at the casual buffets could be improved.  Seating at many of the entertainment venues seemed slightly inadequate.  The St. John destination was simply a place to get off the ship and stretch your legs.

Amazing Anniversary by more30377

Ship was perfectly clean at all time. We had such a wonderful time. The best part was to meet again our head server from 3 years ago, German! He is so charming and customer service driven. The steak House was amazing, Alex was our server and he did a great job.

Just simply --- A great time! by gshadis

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Canada, New England, New York

Carnival knows how to keep the vacation going. There were always a lot of things to do. The Cruise Director, Kevin, and his staff were very good at engaging the audience and keeping them entertained.

All cruise personnel were very polite, friendly and professional. The food was very good in the dining room and the staff there were friendly and entertaining as well. Food on the buffets were typical buffet foods and the service was very good there as well. With so many people at the buffets, it was sometimes hard to find a clean table when we needed one. A couple of times, we had to move dirty dishes to another table so we could have a clean table to sit at.

Our room was cleaned twice per day. Our Stewart, James, was great. Even though we did not have any special needs, he always greated us by name and asked if we needed anything.

We purchased the " Faster to the Fun" package but didn't really need it. For this cruise, it really wasn't necessary and, I think, was a waste of money.

My Review by rosinadia4

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

The entire cruise was great except for the FOOD at the BUFFET.  Some days the eggs were runny, next day overcooked.  The bacon was horrible !  Same breakfast choices every single day.  Broccoli reused many times (obvious) I found a chewed piece of grapefruit in the fruit.  The cooking crew had no gloves on . I saw the Pizza man making pizza and touching everything around him ( ughh )   Other than that ; it was an awesome trip!  Thanks !

Carnival Splendor by mcr174

Pleasant cruise. Carnival provided a variety of activities designed for your particular interests. The trivia games were especially fun. Food was delicious and plentiful. There was never a time where I could not find something to eat. I will say their dance shows were a little dated. Reminded me of bad 1970's variety shows. They need to look into their musical repertoire and update it for the modern cruiser.  Their teen program was wonderful. My son really enjoyed himself. They had many activities that kept him busy throughout our trip, including evenings.

Rest and Relaxation. Awesome night life by ericejpperry

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

My family had planned this trip for over a year so we were pretty excited about August 4th. We had just taken off from NYC and the cruise director Malcolm, was leading a great deck party teaching us some new dances and adding some older ones to the mix. Woo-hoo, to Malcolm. He did an amazing job. A great introduction to the crew as well as the guests. The weather was a bit rough the first 2 days but the crew kept the excitement flowing and no one seemed bothered by the clouds. The remaining days were unbelievably sunny. Our stop in San Juan was a little short but we had enough time to see most of the sites, including the forts and eating at a nice local restaurant. St. Thomas and Grand Turk were equally enjoyable. Perfect weather and great excursions. On board the ship, the entertainment was great. The shows are always top notch and there is something for everyone every night. The rooms were very clean, the staff always left us a new "animal towel" every night. We were impressed. The waiters were amazing. A few minutes after we sat down we were already being served our appetizers. Great service and very friendly. Food was great and endless. A lot of options to choose from. No one should have any issue finding something for their taste buds. I will definitely be cruising again

I experienced a lot of fist fights and altercations on the cruise.  Felt very unsafe.  On the whole, disappointed with entertainment.  Not recognizing my platinum status for anytime dining.  Extremely disorganization with the seating.

Not as good as before or other cruise ships by andrewohio

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

1) The formal dining restaurant was dusty   2) Held back the expensive stuff in the buffet (ex. smoke salmon, bacon) - you need to ask for it  3) Long lines at the buffet   4) Staff less friendly and energetic than on other ships/cruise lines...  5) The ship is small and has limited activities   6) The shows were not as good as before

Running in the halls all the times by evelyndej

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)

This is the worst cruise I've taken!!! People running in the halls at the wee hours of the night with no consideration for others!!! Security had to be called nightly, are you serious the crew seems to be busy in their job, that they just turn their face and  don't care.

Staff needs more education- crew not trained as well as other cruise lines by balakrishnamurt

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Canada, New England, New York

Starting out at embarkation, I had two wine bottles- one for me and one for my gf- which is allowed- or so I thought per person.  I had them in my checked luggage and asked a uniformed person.  She said no problem, just ask security when you get to the other side.  Well, as it turned out- they confiscated both bottles (and probably drank it or sold it).  So that was the start to my cruise- being misguided as to where to place my allowed two bottles.  The service and waiting times in the dining room were too long.  Staff is friendly alright but one can certainly see lack of training in relative terms to other cruise ships/lines.  30-45 minutes wait in line at "my time dining option" lines.  Then at least another 30 minutes wait to be seated and served your first morsel of bread.  Have to walk out to bar to get your own drink as the wine waiter did not appear for over 30 minutes.

Worst Cruise Ever Experienced by jenn868

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Carnival Splendor was terrible.  The ship was not well maintained and stunk - literally.  Every corridor smelled musty and like a sewer.  The windows in every single area of the ship were so filthy you could barely see out of them.  The stair railings were greasy or sticky, as were all the lounge chairs.  The carpets were stained and filthy.  The ceilings had water stains everywhere and several times we were dripped on while walking (at least I hope it was water). The table linens were stained and dirty.  The chairs in the dining rooms were filthy - we were afraid to sit on them in light clothing.  Often food remnants were not brushed off the seats from previous diners and were left for us to clean before we sat down.  The food was inedible. I had 4 children traveling in my party who will eat anything and are bottomless pits.  Even they would not eat this food, it was that bad.  We sent the food back several times and received replacements which were same poor quality. The filet mignon could not be cut, let alone chewed.  It was fatty and grizzly, definitely not filet mignon.  The chicken was either raw or so overcooked it was impossible to cut.  Even the desserts were bad!  Everything on board was grossly overpriced.  $22 for one picture is obscene.  The shops "sales" were a joke.  Drinks on board were much higher than other cruiselines and very weak - we needed to ask for more alcohol to be added each time.  The entertainment was ok but nothing memorable.  The ship was dirty.  Besides the foul odors throughout the ship, the bed linens and towels contained other people's hair every day.  Each time we requested new towels and clean sheets the hair was still there.  There were fist fights nightly - between girls no less!  Security was needed to break up many fights.  We did not feel safe onboard.  Several passengers complained of getting sick from the food.  One member traveling with us (we were a large party) got sick twice and lost 3 out of 8 days due to illness.  Our complaints were dismissed with insincere apologies and the advice to please try another dining option if we weren't happy.  Unfortunately for us we had tried every dining option and none were even close to being edible.  The only reason this review gets one star was because of our waiters who went above and beyond trying to make us happy.  It's not their fault the quality of the food was so deplorable.  I've cruised several times on other lines.  This was my first carnival cruise and I will never return.  It was a complete disappointment.  Don't waste  your money on Carnival!

Leaving Much To Be Desired by muggsie1999

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

The chef needs to improve his skills as most of the food was awful.  The ship was not well maintained...door of cabinet housing refrigerator came off the hinges, refrigerator was not working, one of the lifeboats was constantly being worked on, ceiling showed water marks in many areas, metal gleamed only at eye level, above that, it was pitted, unpainted or rusted, carpeting was threadbare, window and door in room filthy, balcony chair and railing paint specked and arm rests of chair were greasy!  Guest Services hung up on me when I called and asked question, everything pricey and mercenary, invitation to hear a talk on toxins was merely a come on to buy a product, photos ridiculously expensive, no bargains in shops, unable to understand a word of the announcements and because they did not pipe into your room, you didn't hear them well, either. Several pipes dripping (hopefully water) on me as I walked under them, entertainment mostly mediocre, some amateurish like the girl hosting the boring "Family Feud" audience participation skit who could not refrain from saying "Snap" every other sentence.  Inability to accommodate gluten free food anywhere but in the dining room and that had to be ordered a day in advance and often you received something totally different than your order.  Pumpkin pie on menu turned out to be a tiny bowl of watery pumpkin filling ...no crust!  One disappointment after another.

How low will Carnival Go??? by dolphinz823

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Splendor / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

The only good thing about this cruise was our head waiter and his crew and room steward and his.  Most waiters just couldn't be bothered most of the time and many of the guest service staff was very condescending.  Let's not forget the outrageous cost of excursions, the way they are described, and then what you actually experience.  Then having to deal with the excursion staff!!!  Now, lets talk about babies in all pools with diapers on and small children being allowed to monopolize the limited hot tubs. As for the Serenity deck being only for guests over 21, ha!, and why is there no separate pool or hot tub in that limited area!!  oh, btw, what brain surgeon had the idea to put the ping pong tables near an entrance/exit way to the 10th floor lido deck elevators???
