Be aware of the very real risk of contracting COVID during a cruise. Wife and I both tested positive the next day after getting home. We are both vaxxed and boosted. I’m writing this as I sit in my room for my 5-10 day isolation. There were so many people coughing towards the end of the cruise and on the transfer bus back to the airport versus during the beginning of the cruise. Cruising is awesome and I had such a great time seeing Alaska for the first time. Catching COVID just has to be factored in when choosing to go cruising. There’s simply too many holes in the protocol to keep COVID off the ship.

It was an 8 day Alaskan cruise and on the last day they shut down casino, 50% of food and drink venues at 3 PM.

Look a ship layout as on all other cruise ships.

Don't book a aft balcony. I wasn't able to sit on the balcony as much as I wanted to. It was only partially covered and it rained almost every day.

If you can’t decide what to order in the dining room, order both.

Get to know the ship layout before you sail.

Check out the time you’ll actually have on shore and how you’ll get from boat to land. Compare itinerary with other cruise lines to maximize your time actually spent onshore. Other cruise lines appeared to have better and longer port times. Even though we saved money going with Carnival, we feel we cheated ourselves out of quality time in Alaska.

Don't expect to be wowed on the ship, very mundane.

Enjoy it! It's a smaller ship but so much fun!

They keep it warm. Have some spring clothes to wear before you get further up north. I was sweating so much because I only packed sweaters.

Check on WiFi. We bought the $5 "Chat" plan, which was supposed to allow your group to communicate throughout the trip. It was horrible. Worked 30% of the time. We contacted our cell providers before the trip and it was very confusing to decide what international plan to go with. Unless you are ok with paying the ship $60 a day for unlimited data, plan on being off the grid during your trip.
