Carnival Magic overview

By Cruiseline.com - Updated Nov. 17, 2020

Carnival Magic
Carnival Magic is a Dream-class ship from Carnival Cruise Line. Magic was refurbished in 2016 receiving Funship 2.0 upgrades.

When Carnival Magic launched in 2011, it took Carnival’s “Fun Ship” motto to another level. The second of Carnival's Dream-class ships marked a departure away from the bright design of earlier Carnival vessels. Magic’s modern and updated decor was matched by other innovations in restaurants, cabins, and entertainment. Carnival doubled-down on the fun in 2016 when Magic entered dry dock for the multi-million dollar Funship 2.0 upgrades. A Carnival Magic cruise encompasses all of the true Carnival Fun Ship amenities. It's perfect for travelers seeking a non-stop celebration with an informal, backyard-barbecue vibe.

Magic's activities are highlighted by the SportSquare outdoor recreation area. This area includes the first ropes course at sea, mini-golf, sports courts, ping-pong and more. If you’re looking to compete without breaking a sweat, the Arcade is equipped with the latest in video games. Waterworks aqua park is your go-to spot for getting some serious splashing in on hot sea days. You can relax by the pool or conquer the Twister Waterslide. You’ll be happy to work up an appetite with options like Guy's Burger Joint, Pizzeria del Capitano, and the all-new Guy’s Pig & Anchor BBQ.

For a little rest and relaxation, grab a drink poolside at RedFrog Rum Bar or try the Alchemy Bar for craft cocktails. For some serious pampering, visit Cloud 9 Spa. When you’re ready for entertainment, Carnival Magic boasts live music and shows. Passengers can even try their hand at stardom with Carnival's version of Lip Sync Battle. With kids programs like Camp Ocean, Circle “C” and Club O2 young passengers don’t have to worry about just hanging with their parents. And don’t worry adults, the Serenity adult-only area allows you to escape to your little own kid-free paradise.

Carnival Magic itineraries and departure ports

Carnival Magic cruises to Bermuda and throughout the Caribbean, sailing from Ft. Lauderdale and Miami.

Best For

Magic serves a multigenerational crowd and is for those who are looking for various onboard options while wanting a laid-back atmosphere.

What's there to do on the Carnival Magic?

Carnival Magic features activities on the outside decks like the WaterWorks aqua park, a mini golf course, and SkyCourse ropes course. There's also movies on the jumbo screen by the pool, and themed deck parties like the sailaway party and 80’s Rock-N-Glow party. Indoors, you’ll find the Punchliner Comedy Club with an early show for families and a late-night performance for adults only. There’s also Playlist Productions shows in the main theater. Shows include Towel Animal Theater, and Hasbro, The Game Show. This is a competition where members of the audience can compete in board games come to life onstage.

Kids have their own clubs in Camp Ocean where they're divided into different groups by age. There’s also a space just for teens. The Build-A-Bear Workshop at Sea pop-up shop is popular among youngsters looking to create a new stuffed friend, and the Dr. Seuss-themed Seuss at Sea parade and activities are always a hit among kids that sail Carnival. The line also has a partnership with Michael’s for fun crafts throughout the voyage for all ages. Travelers can learn how to craft bracelets, key chains, photo frames, and more. For the adults, there are cocktail tastings, fitness classes, mixologist competitions, the casino, and Spa Carnival with a thermal suite and treatments.

Carnival Magic cabins

Like most cruise ships, Carnival Magic’s cabins are divided into four basic categories: interior, oceanview, balconies, and suites. Each comes in a variety of layouts and sizes. Spa cabins include private spa access, priority spa reservations, and special in-cabin amenities. There are also two other subcategories of note, cabins with a picture window of an exterior walkway and Premium Vista Balconies. Premium Vista Balconies feature large, wrap-around balconies at the aft corners of the ship.

Carnival Magic dining

Carnival Magic has two two-story main dining rooms, called Northern Lights and Southern Lights. Both serve those with set seating times. Northern Lights also accommodates cruisers on Your Time Dining, with open seating between 5:45 and 9:30 pm. The Lido Marketplace is Magic’s sprawling buffet, serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner from stations spread throughout the space. There’s even a late-night snack time, which runs from around 11:30 pm to 1 am. Some stations of note in the buffet include the Mongolian Wok for Asian fare. The Swirls ice cream and frozen yogurt station, available all day, every day.

More venues near the lido pool include Guy’s Burger Joint with a variety of burgers and hand-cut fries. There's also the Blue Iguana Cantina serving burritos and tacos. Other complimentary dining venues on the ship are Pizzeria del Capitano and Guy’s Pig & Anchor Bar-B-Que Smokehouse for lunch. During lunch, passengers can also enjoy the free noodle bar set up in Cucina del Capitano. There are several popular specialty restaurants on Carnival Magic. These include the American-style Prime Steakhouse, RedFrog Pub, the Italian restaurant Cucina del Capitano, and the New England-inspired Seafood Shack.

Wonderful Caribbean Cruise so far. by gdiazjr1053

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Magic

We enjoyed the cruise. The beach, the food, the shows. Roman was a great comedian. The other guy was unprepared either he had a hangover or he forgot his lines. He kept looking at his book of jokes. Will do it again soon.

Go to the lido deck bar and look for Eko and Suanatara. Tip them well and they will pour heavy and toss drinks your way. Plus they are a great pair of guys!

Never book an aft balcony deck 6. Yes, my fault for booking late and it was the only balcony left. Now I know why.

We had good service in all the dining areas we ate in. We ate breakfast every morning in the Marketplace, had lunch either in the Marketplace or at the Deli and ate dinner in the formal dining room every night. Service was exceptional.
