Great Getaway by DocMelCruiser

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Glory / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Having completed numerous cruises, I would rate this cruise as excellent.  Embarkation was a smooth, effortless process.  We were at the port by 11:00 am and on board by 11:30.  We had been on the Glory before so we didn't do much exploring but went up for lunch and waited for our rooms.  I can't say much about the cruise director/staff.  Our only encounters were the numerous "singing" announcements - could have done without most of those "Good Morning..." and "Good Evening...".

Our iternary was a typical 7 night eastern Caribbean with a substituion of Half Moon Cay for Nassau.  This was our first trip that included this port - WONDERFUL beach (see pictures).  Tendering to/from the island was a slow process.  Rather than frequent trips, they would wait until these large tenders were full to leave ship/shore.  We had rather long waits on the tender both going and returning.  If I have the opportunity to return (hope to) I will rent a cabana.  Cabana rental will allow first access to the island (on the early tenders), drinks, shade and air-conditioning, with on the beach access and views.

Cruising in the fall is a risk when it comes to hurricane season, but over the past 3 years we have been fortunate.  The weather has been very cooperative.  The biggest advantage is the lower prices and so few ships in port.  We were the only ship in St. Thomas and Half Moon Cay.  In San Juan and Grand Turk we shared the port with one other ship.  Old San Juan always has great food, is easily accessible on foot or trolly (free) and fun shops to explore.  In St. Thomas, I grabbed a shared taxi to Megan's Bay and enjoyed the beach with so few people, beautiful weather, and great drinks.

This was our 3rd trip to Grand Turk.  It appears to have taken a hit by a storm this past year.  There was significant erosion of the beach leaving a drop off in areas.  The cruise lines have built crossovers with 3-4 steps to compensate.  This year we explored beyond Margaretiville and the immediate cruiseline beach to Govenor's beach (just a few feet north of the cruiseline port area).  We were too late to rent beach chairs and umbrella so we hung out at Island Jerk at a table with umbrella by the building.  Great music, beers were $3.00 ($7.00 at Margaretiville), beautiful beach, free fast wifi, and friendly people; all within site of the cruise crowd and ships.  Highly recommend going a little farther away and early.

We had a 9B extended balcony cabin.  We have had this cabin before and I highly recommend it for people who enjoy spending time on the balcony.  The room is HUGE by cruise cabin standards, being a large square rather than rectangle.  Being on deck 8, at the back of the ship, has its advantages for easy access to the buffet and adult pool. It is a hike to the front for theatre, gangway, and Your Time dining room (Golden).

The food continues to be good on Carnival.  Disclaimer: I really enjoy food, but am not a foodie or critic.  If I don't like something, no worries - you are going to eat again in 4-5 hours.  This philosophy has served me well for life and many cruises. I have read many mixed reviews, but we were very satisfied with the options, quality, and service.  The Chocolate Melting Cake had a new version of the name, but was still on the menu every night and fantastic.  I do recommend breakfast burritos at Blue Iguana (free and no lines) and burgers at Guy's.  We particularly like these two poolside features on Glory.

We chose Your Time dining for the first time.  LOVED it.  We usually went to dinner between 7-7:45.  Never had to wait more than 5 minutes (4 people traveling together).  We were usually seated at a booth for the 4 of us, but joined another group of 4 on the last night.  Our wait team the first night was excellent.  We were asked the second night if we would like the same area.  We gladly said yes and then requested to be with the same team the rest of the cruise.  Only one night were we not able to be with this team, it was the second formal night.  The service that night was off.  We have already changed our future cruises to Your Time.

I can't say anything about entertainment - we didn't go.  We had seen these mediocre shows before and chose to spend our evenings reading on the balcony, catching up with family, walking on deck, or watching TV. Total relaxation not trying to be somewhere at a specific time.

The only really negative thing I saw on the cruise were some of the passengers.  The clientele is changing.  Is it me or have people become more rude, all about me and get twirled up about things?  Not wanting to sound like a Disney movie, but let it go; you are on vacation.  Have fun, wait your turn, say "please" and "thank you."  You will enjoy yourself so much more.

Excellent service..... by vraro

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Glory / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

The experience is so relaxing and memorable at the same time so much fun. The crew and staff are all professionals and courteous.  The entertainment is definitely great with the cruise director Dr E.  Our dining room team are well coordinated with their team effort, especial mention our head waiter Nemesio at the 815pm dinner time, Upper Platinum. They call us with our first name with sir and madam. We never felt so pampered and special, thanks Nemesio. I also finally earned my Gold status on this cruise so I'm more looking forward to cruising with Carnival because of the special treatment and yes some perks of being a Gold.  Our next goal the Platinum.  Great job carnival.

policy change by mhocking

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Glory / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

the cruise was good. my complaint is the recent policy change concerning smoking on the balconies. we specifically request & spend more money to get the balcony room so that we can smoke without disturbing others. now Carnival says that they are changing the policy so that there is no smoking on the balconies. if your outside what does it really matter?  regardless I think Carnival just lost our business. this new policy change is unreasonable. there must be some compromise. perhaps when booking if you smoke, they could put those on one side of the ship, or on the upper level balconies... there must be some way. but until they change we will not sail with carnival. very disappointed.

Awesome Trip! by jcintron320

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Carnival Glory / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

This trip will probably go right up there with one of our best cruises ever!! I loved the itinerary, we went to Half Moon Cay, St Thomas, Puerto Rico & Grand Turk.  The food was great and the staff were also! Big shout out to our waiters, Arnold, Francis & Virgil, our stateroom attendant, Setevano and one particular bartender who was really cool, Ediberto!! The one complaint i can have was DJ Devine.... We all believe he wasnt DJ-ing- I think he had a playlist that he played over and over throughout the whole cruise... (we pretty much predicted the next songs) for Latin Night- they played all the line dances and a Pitbul song (not very latin...)- Needless to say we are all pretty Wobble, Wobbled out.  The other thing was that alot of activities were made during the late dining and once we were done with our dinner that activity was done.  Other than that we loved this cruise- the boat is beautiful- and the serenity was also very nice- totally recommend!

The pools close by 10p.m. and bars do too. If you like to close the bar till 2:30 this isn't the cruise for you. Also there is only two places to smoke on the ship :(

Carnival Glory - Sep-Oct 2014 by Jeffatpas

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends

Typical Carnival. Friendly, economical, attentive! Cannot really say anything bad. Boarding was a little longer than normal and ground staff seemed disinterested. Not at all like the ship based personnel who were all, to a person, very friendly and accommodating.

I WAS UPSAT WITH MY DINING TABLE LOCATION  WHICH SAT EIGHT PEOPLE, ONLY FOUR ASSIGNED, AND LOCATED IN THE VERY BACK OF DINING ROOM  MEANING WE WERE NOT PART OF THE CROWD, BEING PLATIUM, I WAS GIVEN PRIORTY ASSISTANCE.  THE PHONE NUMBER GIVEN  FOR ASSISTANCE FROM THE MATRI DE,  WAS NEVER ANSWERED..I ASK FOR THE MATRI DE, TO COME TO THE TABLE TWICE BUT HE NEVER CAME BY, NOT EVEN TO CHECK ON US.  THERE WAS A NUMBER OF EMPTY TABLES WHERE WE COULD HAVE BEEN RELOCATED.

Best vacation ever by kindasleepy03

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Glory / Destination: Caribbean - Western

This being my second cruise I kind of knew what to expect but watching my husbands face as we pulled into the Port of Miami was priceless. Let me tell you the FTTF is worth it and I highly recommend it. We were at the port around 11:30 and on the ship by 11:50 am! Straight through security to the FTTF line and then straight on the ship. We went directly to our room 7453 which was ready and small but well worth getting the Aft facing balcony. After settling in we went upstairs to grab a bite to eat, Guys Burgers it was and I tell you they were on point and delicious. They would be my husbands staple for the entire cruise. The whole week is a blur from different activities all day and night to the amazing stops in Cozumel, Belize, Mahogany Bay, Grand Caymans! We truly enjoyed every minute of it. Our only complaint well my complaint is finding cigarette butts on my balcony and burn holes in the chairs from people above me smoking and tossing their "butts" below.... Also someone near us was smoking marijuana which in my state is legal (WA) but pretty sure in Miami and the ports we visited was not. The shows were great actually left me wanting more I thought they were to short. The cruise director was so funny and personable Dr E. Loved him. Our room steward Derrick (my husband caught his name) was the best ever he took very good care of us and deserves way more than the tips we gave him! We ate dinner at the Emerald Steakhouse the first night well worth the extra cost and they gave us a bottle of wine!! The adult comedy was definitely adult. When they say in your fun times ADULT ONLY they mean it! Which was not a problem for us just be warned. Some people get a little crazy we will leave it at that. All in all this was an amazing cruise and was a great way for us to celebrate our honeymoon! Thank you Carnival!

7 day Carnival Glory by lov2cocean

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Carnival Glory / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

I had a great time.  Everything went  very smooth as far as  check in and leaving the ship.  All the personel were so nice and helpful.   I especially enjoyed  talking with the black haiired young  lady  that  worked at the Cherry Top  candy store  !   I do  hope  that you can upgrade  the mattresses.  I have cronic  back  problems  due to back surgery  and that is the only  complaint.  I am comparing it to the last

carnival ship  that I took  !    Looking for another cruise  now  !

7 days on Carnival by hs5117

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Glory / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

The worst part of cruising is getting on and of the ship. The unending lines and screening procesws, are a necessary evil. The portions at the main dinning room were small, compared to what they were in years past. The midnight buffet has also been elimaniated. Pricing for this cruise was extremely varied. It ranged from $189 for an inside cabin to $249 for a balcony cabin, directly through Carnival. I paid much more using this service, and will know better next time. The information supplied by the customer service desk is unsatisfactory. One cannot get information about services available at the various destinations, because Carnival want's you to book an excursion. If you can get the cruise for the lowest prices, it's still a good value, if you don't mind putting up with the nonsense.

Had a great time!!! by cmusic

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Glory / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Had a great time on this cruise; first time on Carnival, third cruise overall.  Cabin and cabin steward, food, destinations, ship crew, and other details were perfect.  The ship was on time at every port and sailed slow enough so there were no rocking and rolling of the ship.  About the only let downs were 1) I wanted the evening activities (shows, games, comedy acts, ect...) to be more plentiful so my wife and I did not have to choose among activities going on at the same time, 2) there was not enough easily located public restrooms throughout the ship as there is on other cruise lines, and 3) more photographers trying to take my picture every time we stepped out into the public areas. These are minor things that did not hinder my overall enjoyment of the cruise.

The Cruise Review by sheilalizdoll

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Glory / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

Overall the cruise was excellent we just had some minor problems that was evenyually taken care of by the ships crew. They need to improve the food on the cruise in the dining room on deck 4. We like the fact that we could get something to eat 24 hours a day. We loved the Guy's burger place and the buffet. We only went to the dining room on deck 4 twice because of the food and beacuse of the poor service.

Bland and Lacking... by Nancevee

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Glory / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

This cruise was bland and lacking in many ways.  I been on 20+ cruises and this was the worst one.  Carnival has made a lot of cutbacks and it shows.  The Lido only had one major food station open and there wasn't much variation.  Pretty much the same thing every day and night.  Laying out on the decks, there were no servers around, had to get up and go to the bar if I wanted a drink.  Same thing in any of the seating areas inside of ship.  Main dining room had mainly seafood every night which I am allergic to and not much of anything else.  One night I had a pork chop for dinner, and it was so tough that I couldn't cut into it.  The waiter eventually bought me another one which was just as bad.  The ship stopped in 4 different islands which was nice, but the stops are not long enough to enjoy.  Instead of doing 4 stops in 7 days, it would be much better to do 2 or 3 stops and spend more time at each location. The shows/entertainment was boring, you seen one you seen them all. Comedians were good.  By the way this was my second time on Glory, and believe me, big difference between this cruise and the first time.  This ship also needs to be updated, looks tire and worn.

Carnival Glory andthe Western Caribbean from Miami by jjcasada11

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Glory / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The first thing that happened was a large storm was is the Caribbean.  Carnival planned ahead and rerouted the trip in reverse.  We had good weather for the entire trip due to the planning..  The food was good and the Scuba Diving was great.

Great Cruise.

Carnival Glory by ccox070747

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Carnival Glory / Destination: Caribbean - Western

I have had better service and food on other carnival ships. We were disappointed in this ship and the service but made the best of it because it may be our last cruise.  The new smoking policy and the areas now assigned to smokers is disgraceful, not enough seats and uncomfortable. Fortunately we had a balcony and did not spend much time there. We liked the old menu better than the American Table one.
