disappointing by DianeB162539800

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Carnival Elation / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The others in my group said the ship was nice, clean, well appointed. I didn't go because of surgery. I was not given accurate information when I purchased insurance. I was the only one in our group traveling a long distance to the port so I bought insurance to cover any unforeseen condtions. When I couldn't go due to surgery I learned that the using the insurance meant my 87 year old mother, who I was sharing a cabin with, would have to pay nearly double for the cabin. And I was told there were penalities if I used the insurance and the overall costs would be much more than I would be reimbursed and on top of that my mother would have to pay extra. I was advised to simply not show and not file a claim. Not "real" cancellation insurance. Just another expense with empty promises. bounced me to Carnival. Carnival bounced me to . Each said I should get a cruise credit from the other but no one helped. And the customer service rep was rude. Very dissappointing, and expensive experience,

A wonderful customer service experience by RobertV1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Elation / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The wonderful service started at the cruise terminal and lasted till we went through the customs line. My wife recently broke her leg and was using a cane. A lady moved us to a handicapped line and had somebody wheel chair her to her room, which was very nice. The room was consistently cleaned twice a day and the room service people consistently smiled and said hello or hi. The dining experience was out of the world. They are very concerned that you are happy with the food or they will switch it out for you with no problems. They always remembered your names and genuinely showed that they were happy to see you and they were happy to serve you. Then as we were leaving because of my wife we were moved to a shorter customs line by someone at the terminal. I would recommend this trip to anybody.

One outta two ain't bad! by MikeR11

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Elation / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The ship is dated but clean. The staff is very nice. We ate in the dining room for all meals. Sometimes the wait staff was good, mostly fair to average, though. Food was "Applebee's" quality. For our $220.00 tickets there is no better value anywhere.

Disappointment Cruise by JoyceO

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple

the ship overall was OK, should have been compensated more than $50.00 for the shortening of one port and completing cancellation of the other. The overall pricing on the ship is rediculus.

Disapointment at Sea by ErnestY

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Elation / Destination: Caribbean - Western

While my family has enjoyed numerous cruises in the past, I have avoided them because I do not like being restricted to a specific space. This was my first cruise, and I took it for my 25th wedding anniversary. My worst fears came true, having to spend 90% of the cruise without the opportunity to get off the ship. I feel the explanation of the problems were poorly conveyed to the passengers, and at times very evasive.

Do Not Cruise Carnival! by SteveA1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Elation / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The cruise was a disaster, 8 hours late getting to Cozumel and then turning around and going back to Mobile, because of a "problem with the propulsion system". Which was such a problem that we got back at 3:00am and disembarked at 9:30am at which time they restocked the ship and headed back out to sea on schedule. The "propulsion" problem was so bad that they headed back out to sea on schedule, no they did not take the ship to dry dock to fix the "propulsion problem", they headed back out to sea on schedule. Now here is the deal; they get $6.33 for a lousy Bud Light on board ship, mixed drinks and import beers are much higher than $6.33. Bingo is $20.00, they have a casino, you get the picture. If they keep you on the ship instead of you having a good time in Cozumel or Calica, they make more money, alot more money, because all there is to do on board the Elation is to drink and gamble and you are going to lose at both. The cheap price of this cruise $279 per person is a come on. We also saw one of the cabin boys rifiling thru another cabins draws. The wait staff in the main dining room were also a bunch of aloof, put out, people.

Horrible. Engine issues by PaulA14

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Elation / Destination: Caribbean - Western

We just returned home from the 5 day cruise from Mobile Alabama. This cruise was a Christmas gift to my children prior to my son leaving for the Armed Services. We had many expectations on this trip and none of them were met. The plans included snorkeling on Cozumel and horseback riding on Calica, Mexico. Unfortunately, due to issues with your Elation Cruise ship, our trip was very disappointing. Our time in Cozumel was shortened due to propulsion issues and instead of arriving in the morning, it was mid-afternoon. We never did make it to Calica as we had to limp directly back to Mobile. Speaking with other passengers, we learned that this is not uncommon and another couple was warned not to set foot on Elation due to mechanical issues. It is unfair when dealing with peoples vacations, to knowingly use faulty equipment and potentially lose valued customers, which in this case is quite true. Not only was our last trip as a family compromised but also our faith in Carnival. Our comments will be directed to our booking entity as will our friends in family. On a positive note, we were quite pleased with our dining staff. Conrad and Judit were great.

A Terrible Cruise by RK164751690

There were so many issues and problems with our cruise experience with Carnival's Elation that I'm not going to waste your time or mine listing them all. Stop right NOW and book a cruise on Holland America Lines.

Good but not great by HeatherP2

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Carnival Elation / Destination: Caribbean - Western

This is a decent family cruise, especially if its your first, but don't go looking for outstanding cuisine or five star amenities. The cabins are clean and well laid out, and the service was excellent in every regards, which was a real plus. The pool is small but the kids loved the big slide and the two hot tubs on the main deck. Unfortunately the music, which was great, was painfully loud which ultimately drove us away to give our ears a break. Volume is a problem in the lounges as well. You cant hear anything anyone is saying so you have to move into the hallways our out of the lounge areas to hold a conversation, which is annoying and ruins the otherwise great shows. Also be aware that smoking is allowed on much of the ship so the smell of cigarettes lurks in many areas, including many areas which are designated non-smoking. The pool deck can get pretty smoky especially around the bars. The dance performances were a lot of fun and the earlier shows are PG so the kids can attend without worry. The evening shows are more adult oriented and were also entertaining. Calica is nothing but a huge sand pit (quite literally) so you have to sign up for an excursion to get anywhere interesting. We toured the Mayan ruins and enjoyed the excursion immensely. Cozumel is what you would expect touristy but easy to get around. The food is probably the worst part of this cruise. Its plentiful to be sure but Golden Corral quality (or worse). We were hoping for Mexican-themed meals but they served fried chicken for nearly every lunch and the choices at dinner were bland and uninspired. The steak we ordered on the final evening was inedible chewy and badly overcooked. The salad bar was poorly stocked so it would be hard for a vegetarian to find good options. We were very disappointed. Overall, this isnt a bad cruise but its far from great. Its a good value, a nice escape for a family, especially one living close to Mobile, but nowhere near a top choice.

A Little Disappointment by MorrisC32477660

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Carnival Elation / Destination: Caribbean - Western

This is our 3rd time w/ Carnival but 1st time from Mobile. The port is nice located. It is very easy to get in /out for driving. The parking deck is only several steps away & very convience. The terminal staffs are well trained & evrything is smooth & organizing. The staffs on the ship are also very nice & helpful (very quick). The room is nice & clean. However, all else like foods, entertament, organization, and so on are lower than our expectation. We mean to compare w/ our previous Carnival experiences even not w/ other cruise lines.

Desination more important than ship! by JustinH2

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Elation / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Carnival seems to have it in their minds that people take cruises to be on the cruise ship, not the destination! The biggest disappointment of the Mobile to Calica to Cozumel trip is you get arrive in Calica at 7:00am and they will rush you back on at 5:00pm for dinner but they don't leave for another 3 hours! On top of that - your next destination, Cozumel, is less than 30 minutes away BUT you spend all night floating at sea! We can only blame ourselves for not studying oceanography and geography before our vacation, but I think Carnival should let you know your vacation is being controlled by their desire to milk money from the gamblers and drunks. I myself would have had a much better time eating Mexican food, drinking margaritas, and discovering the nightlife AT THE DESTINATION. Also- a good tip- we paid $75 to park our car at the port and learned that many people spend that money on a hotel room with a shuttle. Seems like a much more comfortable way to disembark.

The Carnival Elation-Splended!!!!!!!!!!! by DianeM26

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Elation / Destination: Caribbean - Western

My husband and I loved the people we met on this ship, both the ones who work aboard the ship and the friendly and nice patrons we met along the way. We were delighted with the new friendships we made and we will definently stay in touch with them, and we plan to sail on another Carnival ship together in the near future.

Best Christmas Present ever by JudyH12

We went on this cruise as a family Christmas present. We will remember this experience for a lifetime. Most people can not tell you what they got for Christmas last year, but I bet my children and grandchildren will be able years from now to tell you what they got from Nana for Christmas 2010.
