Carnival Elation

5 Night Western Caribbean (Mobile Roundtrip)

Sail date: January 15, 2011

Ship: Carnival Elation

Cabin type: Inside

Traveled as: Couple

Review summary

The ship is dated but clean. The staff is very nice. We ate in the dining room for all meals. Sometimes the wait staff was good, mostly fair to average, though. Food was "Applebee's" quality. For our $220.00 tickets there is no better value anywhere.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
Food really was just average. For example, one night we had Chateaubriand, pork chops and lamb chops. All three dishes had the same sauce and the steak was dry. There seemed to be a lot of short-cuts taken with food presentation. Nothing tasted bad, though.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
We found the staff as a whole to be very friendly. Wait staff needed some improvement...but everyone else was good.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
The ship is in very good shape considering the abuse it takes from the passengers. There were many careless guests.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Our state room was upperdeck interior. Who needs windows? we were on deck the whole time. It was clean and comfortable.

Ports of call

Cozumel, Mexico

5 out of 5
We took an $8.00 taxi ride to Dzul-Ha and stayed there the whole time. Good beer, great Ceviche, best snorkeling.
Don't Miss: snorkeling

Progreso (Merida), Mexico

1 out of 5
There was a storm a week before and (no lie) there was 3-feet of seaweed covering the beach for as far as the eye could see. Way too many vendors. We took the free shuttle to the end of the pier and walked to "Buddy's" at the beach. We felt comfortable while we were there.

Pros: Snorkeling in Cozumel

Cons: Vendors in Progreso
