No what we had hoped for by LarryG98374721

Sail date: /
Ship: Norwegian Pearl / Destination: U.S. - Pacific, Northwest

The service was the worst we have ever experienced on a cruise - by far! At 6:30 am in the morning on day 2, we were not able to get breakfast at the "24 hour" restaurant (or anywhere on the ship) and were treated rudely by the waiters (except in Mamba's), our cabin attendants and other staff members. Very dissappoitning!

A disappointing Cruisline by CindyG3

The ship itself was beautiful. Unfortuantly, the uncleanliness distracted from its beauty.

Flooded out of suite by CarlaA2

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: U.S. - Pacific, Northwest

I am torn between blasting the customer service and food but when my 9 year old disappeared at 10:30PM at night for 45 minutes I called from the top deck's emergency phone and told them she was missing. By the time I got to the 7th deck there was a team of plain clothes security asking me what happened with a print out of her picture taken when we boarded! We found her and she was safe, but I really appreciated the fast action. CONS: I had a suite. On the first night at 12:45AM we came back to the room and the carpet was wet outside the bathroom. There were traces of water in the toilet room, the sink area and the bathtub. I called maintenance as the carpet was real wet. He accused me of over flowing the bathroom...We were out dancing! Come 4AM..I hear a whose and get up and water is leaking out of the lights in the bathroom ceiling! I call the reception and they say "Why didn't you report this?" I said I did. They say "Well what would you like us to do SIR" I am a woman!! I said "Send someone to fix it" ONE hour later and now it's a waterfall streaming out the bathroom down the hall. Maintenance comes in and screams "WHY didn't you call earlier" I SAID I did! We were evacuated to another suite. I asked for a credit or some compensation. They offered to help move my things to the other suite. THAT is already their job! FINALLY I received a $50 credit (NOT worth one nights sleep wasted) Also, the food was terrible. We were on a Pacific Coast 3 night cruise and I was told that the passenger's are not taken care of like a 7 or longer day cruise. On the 3rd night it smelled of raw sewage too. My 9 year old hated that!! So, I guess the thing is to take longer cruises.

horrible experience by Mcs

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Celebrity Mercury / Destination: U.S. - Pacific, Northwest

safety hazards: water in our suite out of faucets was black. we had to search for answers on why: manager stated didn;t know what it was but safe to drink. did not offer alternative drinking water. Food was poor quality, like cafeteria styel, no buffet offered at dinner, hamburgers closed at 6pm, no variety, no drinks offerred for people with diabetes. restrictions on food hours, gym hours, no activities.

A disaster and no one cares by JimC28

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Celebrity Mercury / Destination: U.S. - Pacific, Northwest

Overall rating bad. Biggest complaint, staff totally unresponsive, One example, when we had dirty brown water coming from our faucet for THREE days I ask the room steward, the housekeeping department, the ship's plumber, the front desk "customer service" people twice ( in person once with dirty brown water in hand) with absolutely no reply ever. After thee days it cleared up, probably on its own. A letter of complaint to the Celebrity corporate headquarters after the cruise did not get a response either. I guess they just don't care. Overall there were way too many negatives to list here. Entertainment was horrible. Buffet second class and understaffed, long lines on and off ship on too many occasions. Much more.

Most Relaxing Cruise Ever.... by FastE1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Celebrity Mercury / Destination: U.S. - Pacific, Northwest

This was a wonderful affordable 4 day getaway, my third cruise, my wives second. Nothing glitzy or terribly exciting...just nice comfortable and relaxing. Extraordinary views from throughout the ship...as well as from our stateroom. Mellow, nice and relaxing are keywords. No rock climbing walls, street dances or extravaganvas, but great for kicking back and enjoying. Entertainment was okay....I'd seen better on my previous 2 cruises, but the theater was perfect. I haven't seen another with such comfortable spacious seating, and having a table at each seating for drinks was an unexpected pleasure. The staff REALLY cared that everyone was taken care of and having a good time. The absolute best customer service I've seen on a cruise ship so far. Food was pretty good... but nothing to brag about. We were disappointed they didn't have more late night dining options however. But to make up for it, they did offer a free room service menu that we enjoyed. I'd recommend this cruise to anyone who just wants a relaxing laid back getaway. This run (Seatle, Nanaimo, Victoria and return to Seattle) was very affordable even for our balcony room.

The beginning is not all there is by DanavictoriaK

While the layout of the ship depicted classical lines of old, ship maintenance was clearly lacking. Cleanliness is something that CANNOT be compromised on cruise ships.

Awesome first time cruise experience by LisaK8

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Celebrity Mercury / Destination: U.S. - Pacific, Northwest

The ship was in great shape and cleaned everywhere every day. I especially liked the water spa therapy - awesome. ALL the staff went above and beyond to make this cruise a better than five star service event. We bonded with our servers and cabin attendant and even the cruise director and bar tender.

A little disappointing by MrsD1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Celebrity Mercury / Destination: U.S. - Pacific, Northwest

We love to cruise, and we were anticipating famous Celebrity service and style. Although the cruise overall was acceptable, we were disappointed with the average service by the staff. In particular, the food service staff did not seem to be happy - no warmth or graciousness. The ship was fine, but really, nothing exceptional.

EXCELLENT EXPERIENCE!!! by AM58120421

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Celebrity Mercury / Destination: U.S. - Pacific, Northwest

The ship, for being as old as it was, is beautiful! My room was very nice (had the balcony), and the beds were very comfortable. Though I think next time I'll bring my own pillow. We had a party of 92 people in our group and everyone agreed that the pillows were lacking (very thin). The hairdryer is also terrible (burns your hands so use a wash cloth when holding). I think if you can go on a wonderful cruise and only complain about a lousy pillow and hair dryer then you can consider the trip a complete success. The service that we recieved from the crew was outstanding! They went over and above with the service they gave us. So polite, and willing to do just about anything to make your cruising experience a pleasant one (though there was one crew member gal in the swarsoski crystal jewelry store on the ship that should go back to Croatia). Wonderful wonderful crew! The first nights comedian was hilarious... I've never laughed so hard in my life! I missed the second nights show (singing & dancing), but I heard it was good too. The last night was a juggler/comedian and was a great juggler...but not too funny. Kareoke(sp) night was so stinking funny...I wish they offered that every night! Disco was very fun too...and the music was hoppin! Wonderful Wonderful Wonderful, and I plan on going on the cruise again next year (taking the family).

Budget Cruise = Budget Experience by MelanieK

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Celebrity Mercury / Destination: U.S. - Pacific, Northwest

No comparison to Princess & Holland American (which were excellent!) We did not pay much for this cruise, so I can't complain too much. I enjoyed playing BINGO, I enjoyed the ports especially Victoria. Cruise was smooth except for the last day, which was very very rocky. The kids' program was a BIG DISAPPOINTMENT. Especially when they cancelled all activities on the last full day-- which was the day we were at sea!! That's when you really need a kid's program! The food wasn't bad, it just wasn't great. The desserts were blah. Regarding the entertainment, I like the Comedian, the Acrobats and the Magic show. The two other shows were not that interesting (Singing/Dance Revue and a Juggler). Drinks were generally good. But they do charge for soft drinks (soda), even at meals.

A wonderful 4-night getaway by JeremyL

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Celebrity Mercury / Destination: U.S. - Pacific, Northwest

The ship was so much nicer than the ship on our previous cruise to the Yucatan Peninsula. If there was something that I learned, though, on this cruise it would have to be that I probably wouldn't prefer to do a 4-day cruise again because I was just starting to get into the 'groove' of vacation and we were already back in port in Seattle! :-( But it was a great time, jam-packed with fun activities - so much so that we couldn't do anywhere near all the things that we wanted to do. Celebrity is definitely a cruise line that I would take again in the future without a moment's hesitation if the price and destination is right!

Mercury not for us by MarjorieM3

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Celebrity Mercury / Destination: U.S. - Pacific, Northwest

Staff friendly, ship was clean, We would try another Celebrity cruise but would not go on the Mercury. Looked old and had very little extras on the ship. Decorated poorly. Not enough viewing areas. Had to go through an unbelievable crowd of people viewing pictures to get to dining area. The main theater's entertainment not spectular unless you like juggling and comedians.

A Good Time by FastE1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: U.S. - Pacific, Northwest

This one night "dinner and dance cruise" from Seattle to Vancouver was very fun for a "quickie" getaway. I had been on one cruise to the Carribean (Royal Carribean Navigator of the Seas) earlier this year, but my wife wasn't able to come along. We took this mini cruise to introduce her to the concept of cruising. The price was right, and we both enjoyed it immensly. We neither utilized the main dining room nor the highly touted other "freestyle cruising" resturants on board (there are 13 choices!) Instead we ate in the Market Cafe, I beleive it was called which is the Norwegian Star's buffet. It was VERY good. The service and freindliness of the staff wasn't as notable as it was on my previous cruise. But maybe I just set my standards too high. It wasn't bad...just not quite as attentive. The entertainment was great, the main theatre show was very professional. We saw a great comedian and an acrobat show. And I particularly loved the Karaoke, even got up there myself. Overall, it was not the best, but good fun all the same, and I would reccomend anyone who wants to test it out to see if they would like cruising to go on ove of these overnight excursions.
