Review summary

The ship was so much nicer than the ship on our previous cruise to the Yucatan Peninsula. If there was something that I learned, though, on this cruise it would have to be that I probably wouldn't prefer to do a 4-day cruise again because I was just starting to get into the 'groove' of vacation and we were already back in port in Seattle! :-( But it was a great time, jam-packed with fun activities - so much so that we couldn't do anywhere near all the things that we wanted to do. Celebrity is definitely a cruise line that I would take again in the future without a moment's hesitation if the price and destination is right!

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
The food was unbelieveable. Very good, especially in the Manhattan Restaurant. We ate 2 breakfasts in the restaurant and 3 dinners in the restaurant. All 5 meals were superb in quality, and the service was impeccable. The dining times and seating options, however, were the ONLY thing that we didn't really appreciate during our cruise. We took the early dinner seating (6 p.m.) and if you aren't at your table by 6:15 at the latest, then they say they won't be able to accomodate you. I don't know if that's really the case, but it left very little margin for error, especially when you've been out all day on an excursion and are just coming back on board for dinner. It would have been nice to have more flexibility in eating times, as well as to be able to choose to sit at a table with your own party if preferred. Overall, though, the food made up for anything that the dining options lacked.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Great auditorium for shows on this ship. Great lighting, ample seating with good views (we enjoyed the balcony seating which in some places was directly over the performers!), comfortable. The shows themselves were good as far as cruise shows go - the entertainment was 'good'.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Unbelieveable service and attention to detail. Our steward who was in charge of making sure our room was taken care of even would knock on our door and remind us if we didn't show up in time for dinner, so that we would make it in time. Also, he arranged for all our dining reservations for the week without even asking him to. It was something that we didn't experience on our last cruise.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
The size of the ship was bigger than a previous cruise I was on to the Yucatan Peninsula on another cruise line, and certainly more modern. The layout was nice in that it seemed easier to remember where everything was - a more logical layout than I remember our former ship being. Very clean, modern decor, warm and perfect mood lighting in the lounge areas. Many cozy and comfortable places to just sit and enjoy the scenery and people-watch.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
We took the cheap route and got an inside cabin. It actually surprised me - it was fairly spacious and was just as comfortable as the cabin in our last cruise that had an oceanview. Plenty of storage space for unpacking your luggage. Nice shower/bathroom facilities. Clean and comfortable. No complaints whatsoever, and I wouldn't mind taking an inside cabin (for a good price) again in the future if I must.

Ports of call

Nanaimo, British Columbia

3 out of 5
Pretty little sleepy town on the coast of Vancouver Island. It was fun to get off the boat and I'm glad that we got to see a place we've never been before, but I am not sure that I would necessarily go through the hassle of taking a tender to the port again if we took the same cruise again in the future. The shopping was quaint, but mediocre. We didn't eat anything in town, but we stopped at a great fudge shop in the central shopping area in town and got some wonderful fudge. The best part of the city, however, has to be the park with great walking paths along the water right off to the right of the pier - very pretty and relaxing. Made the excursion worthwhile.
Don't Miss: The park off to the right of the pier - very beautiful, and a great place to get a nice walk in.

Victoria, British Columbia

Been to this city before a couple of times via ferry ride from Port Angeles, WA, so there weren't any real surprises. We didn't do anything special this trip, but on previous trips we had. Highly recommend the Royal BC Museum, right in the center of town. Plenty of coffee houses and quaint restaurants to eat at. Plenty to keep a person occupied all day at this port.
Don't Miss: Royal BC Museum - especially when there is a good exhibit going on.

Pros: The ship was truly beautiful and full of amenities.

Cons: I didn't like the set times for dinners and the inflexibility with seating at dinner time.

Recommends Celebrity Mercury? Yes!
