Celebrity & Alaska Disappoint by dgpadilla7

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Celebrity Edge

Alaska cruise was on our bucket list. I believe our expectation were too high to see the Alaska we were looking for. However, thought we would have had a good food experience, theatre, etc on a big ship and this too was a disappointment. Never had this with Celebrity. Probably our last time in Alaska and unfortunately our last time with Celebrity, a line we used to love. And this survey has me giving this cruise a 3.7 but it was more ,Iike a 3-

Mixed feelings by schifferlise

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Celebrity Edge

The thing I most disliked was the rank commercialism all around. I was appalled that unless I spent $5.50 on a bottle of water in my cabin, there was no potable water unless I went to the buffet 4 flights up. EVERYTHING is ridiculously expensive.....$20 for a cocktail plus 20% surcharge. WiFi also very expensive. Extra charge (up to $50!) to eat at a "specialty" restaurant. And even though I ate at the buffet most nights, I was charged $18 tip per night for the other restaurant meals. I was not interested in most of the activities onboard....trivia games and other silly stuff. And the captain and cruise director talked way too much and were often too cute by half. And the ports were (of course) overrun by huge crowds. On the positive side, the musicians onboard were excellent. And of course, Alaska is stunningly beautiful and cruising is a good way to see some amazing sights.

Beautiful Scenery! by rak91194803

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Quantum of the Seas

Overall this was a good trip for us. There was a delay and the first couple days the ship was rocking a lot! There were a lot of sick people on the ship. But we did see a lot of great scenery and ate a lot of good food.

Had it not been for the terrible Allegro dining room experience it would have been a great cruise.

Relaxing Alaskan Escape by MasonCruiser

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Majestic Princess

Overall.....premier package we thought was worth it, although the wi-fi isn't the best if you want to do wi-fi calling (it sometimes work, sometimes, doesn't). Alaska was beautiful and relaxing. Worth the trip.

Great Family Vacation by smurph65

A cruise is to relax and enjoy a location different than where you live. Do what suits you and you will be glad you did it.

Awful voyage. Would NOT recommend sailing on this ship. by omigrum

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Encore

Awful ship. Not accommodating to older people and people with handicaps or disabilities. Didn't even have closed captioning available on the TV. Smoking area was a disgrace. There was no ventilation at all and they would not allow us to keep the door open. This was my first cruise ever and will also be my last.

Do NOT do NCL!! by guilhelin

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Encore

We will never do an NCL cruise again. The food is terrible and doesn't match the areas you are visiting. Forget having any kind of food from Alaska. The service is lacking, your drinks will rarely get refilled, and you may not even get them at all. The ports are all the same and definitely NOT the real Alaska you would see. Just do NOT bother with NCL please go to another cruise line.

ITs OK, but covered a lot of miles so more time on boat than off by zbkmorris

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Bliss

I guess if you like food and a lot drinking, it's not a bad deal, but I'm a wine drinker and not a heavy hard liquor guy. Again, had to cover a lot of sea to get from place-to-place so it was pretty much a boat ride.

Fun Alaska Cruise by Florida123

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Bliss

Wonderful cruise. We really enjoyed every minute. The exception was the Ketchikan port of call. NCL needs to inform passengers of the bus situation there so they can get out early and enjoy the city.

Review from a group traveling with 4 generations by jchen139

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Koningsdam

We traveled with 4 generations across 11 people. The ship is definitely more geared towards the retirement crowd. The scenery was absolutely stunning but wish we had more information on self guided trails and nature walks at each port of call. I was quite disappointed by the amount of upselling throughout the entire cruise. I understand the need to make money but it was frustrating feeling like we paid for a trip yet were still being sold to every corner we turned. From the daily pamphlets in our stateroom pushing jewelry sales to the servers pushing beverages. If you're expecting more outdoor activities without going on excursions (we felt like the excursions were too long to take our toddler on), I'd highly recommend doing research about each port before your trip. We did end up getting some service in Skagway and found a few trails on Alltrails. For families with young kids, we traveled with our toddler (22months). We brought our own pack and play (guava lotus) and it fit in front of the loveseat after we asked to remove the coffee table (we were in a VA room on deck 4). We were still able to access our balcony without issue. The rooms have blackout curtains. In terms of activities, the kids club doesn't allow kids under 3. If your toddler is willing to be worn, I'd highly recommend a packable carrier (I got one off amazon from boba air). It was great for short hikes and naps on the go.

Incredible Alaskan vacation by breezyterry

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Celebrity Edge

We had a wonderful experience for our first Celebrity cruise. The destination was definitely worth the money and we would 100% repeat the experience. I would not, however, book through BJ's again, as they did not deliver on the promised perks. When transferring the booking from Celebrity to BJ's, we were told we would receive the perks offered by and by Celebrity. That was untrue.

Absolutely Spectacular by DavidGivot

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Celebrity Edge

This is a bucket list adventure. Say yes to everything and enjoy every moment because it goes by fast. While the indescribable majesty of Alaska stands very much on its own, Celebrity Edge managed to make it even better. Service, food, elegance, and ease of everything made this Celebrity adventure a once-in-a-lifetime event...that we hope to repeat!
