Review summary

Alaska cruise was on our bucket list. I believe our expectation were too high to see the Alaska we were looking for. However, thought we would have had a good food experience, theatre, etc on a big ship and this too was a disappointment. Never had this with Celebrity. Probably our last time in Alaska and unfortunately our last time with Celebrity, a line we used to love. And this survey has me giving this cruise a 3.7 but it was more ,Iike a 3-

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Great! Smooth. Efficient. On the ship in about 10-15 minutes from the door to the ship.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
Eden and Le Petit chef were great. Worth the extra money? Not the quality we’ve come to expect from Celebrity. Steak is better from my local grocer. Get better shrimp from Costco. Buffet was good. Main dining sub par. Drinks were good. Loved the martini bar and Cafe Bacio. Ice cream station has gone from a soft serve cone to 6 flavors and wonderful cookies. Definitely a step up. Carrot cake to die for was not. Pasta is better at Olive Garden.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
Did not participate in any of these — Pool, fitness, rock climbing. The “at sea” activities were okay. Lots of trivia. Bingo was packed but can’t play for less than $30-40. Better to take the money and chance it in the Casio. Artwork is nothing I’d have in my home.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
Musicians were very good. DJ in martini bar before dinner could’ve played different songs. Comedian was great. Stage show we saw, singing and dancing was good, but would like to see more variety than this. Not what it used to be but maybe Covid has changed things.

Children's Programs

We are 66 years. Didn’t bring any children

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
The staff and service continues to be excellent. They try their very best to correct any concern you have even if it’s out of their control. A chef cannot make a great steak if the Company is giving him poor quality beef to begin with.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Ship is beautiful. All areas always clean. Easy to navigate. Most everything centrally located on two floors.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Cabin was great. Plenty of room and they’ve figured out how to give more storage space. Our room was cleaned every time we left it. That poor guy. Shower wiped down and everything. Made sure we had our canapés each day. Paulwin did a great job.

Ship tip

These balconies with the “roll down” window are great for a cold weather cruise. But I want a full walk out balcony in hot weather. If you’re a foodie, or you’re going for the “food experience”, this is not the ship or maybe even the line for you.We used to sail Celebrity for the food experience. Not any more.

Ports of call

Seattle, Washington

5 out of 5
Fun time exploring a new city. Mount Rainer, Space Needle, Pike Place, Chulily.

Ketchikan, Alaska

Maybe we chose the wrong excursion. 6 ships in port. Town lined with jewelers and souvenir shops. Totem pole park was a joke and lumberjack show was good but I can see that in Wisconsin. Not the Alaska I was thinking about. Again, wrong excursion.

CRUISE ENDICOTT ARM & DAWES GLACIER

2 out of 5
This was nice but I really thought we’d get closer to the glacier. We did not. I did see a smaller boat head that way from the back of the ship. Would have paid for that excursion if it was available.

Juneau, Alaska

This is only getting a 3 because nature kinda cooperated with us. I chose the helicopter and dog sled excursion, which got canceled due to weather. Pay attention! Weather in Alaska is ever changing and can make for a great trip or not so much. No one can control. Port, again, full of ships, jewelers, souvenirs, etc. we opted for a small whale watch excursion when our original excursion was cancelled 30” before we had to leave. We saw 10-12 whales bubble net feed about 4 times and heard them on sonar. Amazing! This was a once in a lifetime that may have been never. Again, just luck. It was drizzling, cold and windy but SOO worth it.

Skagway, Alaska

Again, port is the same but I’m sure there’s not much in Alaska to begin with. We don’t hike or kayak but should have chosen more “nature” type excursions. Started the day with a salmon bake — food was good. Little show and pan for gold (touristy). 20 minute tour of Red Onion Saloon, a bus ride up the mountain and a train ride down. All for $200+/person. A little pricey. At least the bus/train ride got you up in the mountains and you could see untouched Alaska. Town was cute. Wish we had more time to check it out.

Cruise Inside Passage, Alaska

Forest on each side of the ship. Not impressed. Not sure what I was expecting. Bears in the water in the side, a moose in the distance, eagles soaring overhead. Guess I watch too much TV. Not something you’re going to necessarily see on a cruise.

Disembarkation

Chose Valet luggage. Didn’t realize it was going to cost $30/person. Must have been in the fine print. Took Seattle Express to the airport. Easy to navigate. Efficient. On time and only $60 for both of us.
