Is Norwegian Cruise Line now charging for room service?

Norwegian Cruise Line has introduced an enhanced room service menu that is debuting on board Norwegian Getaway and Norwegian Breakaway. The new menu offers an expanded selection for breakfast, in addition to a wider variety of options available 24 hours. Individual items on the menu remain available on a complimentary basis and a convenience charge of up to $7.95 will be added to each order placed (Room Service orders placed by guests sailing in Suites and The Haven will not attract a charge)*. Room service is one of up to 29 dining options offered across the fleet, and guests continue to be able to enjoy a wide array of complimentary choices onboard 24 hours a day.

*Prices subject to change.

This is a trial on two ships for the next several weeks. $4.95 on the Getaway, $7.95 on the Breakaway. I have already spoken to C/S about this, and they have been bombarded with calls. The idiot that thought this was a good idea should be fired. However, if they are going to use this as a dining option, say, instead of going to the MDR or the buffet, and they guarantee a prompt, hot delivery, then fine. I'm ok with it. But, if you are going to charge for morning coffee and a couple of bagels, then that's an issue. The people who will suffer the most are the delivery personnel by way of fewer tips.

What are your thoughts ?

I don't like it at all. I have never used room service so it doesn't affect me at all. The only time I was forced to use it was when we had an extremely early shore excursion and everyone on that tour was told to have it as no eatery was opened that early. It was pre-arranged for us.

Was thinking about this... One attraction this has for us is that if we are not going ashore in a given port, we like to avoid the crazy frenzy, especially the breakfast crowd. We prefer a leisurely breakfast in our stateroom on the balcony. It's an awesome way to begin a relaxing port day.

Now here is the way I like it. Beautiful evening, perfect atmosphere, being waited on hand and foot. Out on our balcony, linen tablecloths, multiple course menu. Overlooking nice harbor. Who says room service isn't fun?

We decided to stay on board that evening. One of finest dinner evenings ever on a vessel. Star Princess, Montevideo, Uruguay.

An item in Google news today mentioned that NCL and RCCL were looking to change their marketing and advertisers. Could be an omen?

Mark Sheehan was given more than a gentle nudge out the door it was more like a veiled boot, but he remains forever the diplomat. May his next endeavor be worthy of his dedication and expertise.

I hope to find out more at the end of the month. The trial will be over by then, and they should be used to walking with their tails between their legs. On a side note, there may be an opening for a marketing director at Norwegian Cruise Lines.

I have never ordered room service but I do not like the idea of charging for it. I hope that the cruise re-considers.

I wounder if the chocolate's at bed time will make it on to the extra charge room service menu ?

That was January. The announcement was made recently regarding the demise of the evening chocolate.

I was just on Carnival in January and got the Chocolates every night...... and an extra hand full when I saw the stewards cart in the hall at night.
