What do you think of NCL charging for Room Service ?

Is Norwegian Cruise Line now charging for room service?

Norwegian Cruise Line has introduced an enhanced room service menu that is debuting on board Norwegian Getaway and Norwegian Breakaway. The new menu offers an expanded selection for breakfast, in addition to a wider variety of options available 24 hours. Individual items on the menu remain available on a complimentary basis and a convenience charge of up to $7.95 will be added to each order placed (Room Service orders placed by guests sailing in Suites and The Haven will not attract a charge)*. Room service is one of up to 29 dining options offered across the fleet, and guests continue to be able to enjoy a wide array of complimentary choices onboard 24 hours a day.

*Prices subject to change.

This is a trial on two ships for the next several weeks. $4.95 on the Getaway, $7.95 on the Breakaway. I have already spoken to C/S about this, and they have been bombarded with calls. The idiot that thought this was a good idea should be fired. However, if they are going to use this as a dining option, say, instead of going to the MDR or the buffet, and they guarantee a prompt, hot delivery, then fine. I'm ok with it. But, if you are going to charge for morning coffee and a couple of bagels, then that's an issue. The people who will suffer the most are the delivery personnel by way of fewer tips.

Sad Awwww, no chocolates on my pillow. I better still get an animal on my bed! Big Smile

Don't worry, you'll still get an animal each night, and one morning the lido poolside chairs will each have a towel animal on them. They are great fun to see.

Wow, the crews work is never done.

See the guy in the red shirt in the top photo ? He took that chair because there was something going on later in the day. The roof was closed ( Carnival Splendor ) but there was some activity he was waiting for. It was something like 4 hours prior that he grabbed a couple of lounge chairs.

He was probably the most photographed guy on the cruise.

Thanks BonMike! I feel better now! Big Smile

Thanks for sharing your towel animal pics!!! I LOVE THEM!!! Love I guess I'm a kid at heart, I don't need all the finer things, of course those are nice too! LOL I just get a kick out of the little things too! Big Smile

The charge for room service varies by cruise line but we do not believe NCL is the only one doing it. Personally, do not like it but understand it. Perhaps the charge goes toward crew members actually coming around to pick up trays from the halls? If so, that is a good thing. Having them out their for hours is a safety concern.
