Review summary

Really relaxing way to visit places between Rome and Venice, taking a variety of countries. All this without having to pack/unpack suitcases and having meals, snacks whenever it suited us.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
A very quick and smooth process.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Main dining room pleasant with plenty of menu options. I am coeliac and was well catered for. Buffet was a bit trickier, but I was able to find enough options. It would have been easier if labels had indicated Gluten or Gluten free. Specialty restaurant (Pinnacle) was excellent.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
A bit hohum. Went to fitness centre. Definitely too small. Classes for stretch, abs free, yet yoga and pilates cost $12. Not sure why. Not enough space for classes, stopped going. My husband went for stationary bike and not enough available. Probably need to double size and isolate classes as people walked through them. Pool looked inviting in the early mornings with 1 or 2 swimming, but got crowded as the day progressed. Went to a few trivia quizzes which we enjoyed, joining up with some other couples. Good atmosphere.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
Danny O'Neill and Vinny Ester (unsure of spelling) played pianos and sang range of songs and were excellent entertainers, but their venue was next to a corridor and the "Casino". However many people passing by stopped and started enjoying the music. The music in the BB King lounge, probably was good, but was so loud we couldn't stay there. The classical musicians were very accomplished, but some of their program was too heavy for us. A couple of the stage shows were reasonable, but found some too cheesy, singers so-so and too yelly.

Children's Programs

No children with us!

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Waiters looked after us superbly. Room stewards were very obliging. Excursion staff were helpful. Reception staff were mostly helpful, but we did feel that we were led a bit astray about gratuities on board.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
We coped with the ship layout ok. We had issue with the airconditioning being way too cold in some areas of the ship e.g. the Main Stage-we gathered there each day to go ashore, dressed for the low 30s (Celsius) and shivered while waiting to go ashore. All staff were scrupulous about cleanliness and common areas were well looked after.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
We didn't seem to be able to adjust/turn off the aircon and there were no instructions for the water temp for the shower which was a tad too hot. Nice large bed. Couch was also nice. Would have been good to have reading light over couch or curtain, so when one of us was awake/asleep the other could read/sleep. However, overall pretty good

Ship tip

Use the unlimited laundry service for $108 for 12 days. Might seem a lot but it was well worth it.

Ports of call

Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy

4 out of 5
We joined the ship here and then, after 24 days, left from here. We organised a walking tour and saw the ancient city. Spent time walking around on our own. Stayed near the Termini, caught the Metro, bus on a 2 day pass. Iconic city, well worth a visit.

Messina, Sicily

4 out of 5
Excursion to Taormina and Theatre. It was a hot day, but worth the visit

Valletta, Malta

4 out of 5
Excursion to Old and New Capitals.

Mgarr, Malta

3 out of 5
No excursion. Tried to get around on our own. Didn't really see much. Caught the public bus back to the ship and had a "scenic tour".

Corfu, Greece

5 out of 5
Husband went on mountain bike excursion and really enjoyed it. I went to the Achillion Palace on an excursion which I enjoyed

Dubrovnik, Croatia

5 out of 5
We both did an excursion to Dubrovnik. I went on the cruise/city walk, my husband the cale car/city walk . Both good.

Kotor, Montenegro

4 out of 5
Walked around on our own. Husband walked the city wall, I did a bit of shopping. All fine.

Korcula Island, Croatia

4 out of 5
A small old town, nice, inexpensive coffee. On our own

Split, Croatia

4 out of 5
Excursion to Krka Falls, near Sibenek. Disappointing , very little water (summer). Hot day. As we were leaving huge crowds coming in. Our tour timed well to get in and out.

Koper, Slovenia

4 out of 5
Wifi on the dock!. Another small, nice place to walk around. Sorry, can't remember too much.

Venice, Italy

4 out of 5
Excursion to Murano and Burano. At Murano excursion included glass blowing demonstration, which was really good. Some beautiful objects on display, but very expensive and impractical to take home. At Burano was hot again, lots of shops selling lace, but not really our thing.

Disembarkation

4 out of 5
N/A continued cruise to Rome.

Cruising has to be one of the best ways to tour the world - just by the reasons you stated.
