Great trip! by krasner1

Great cruise. From excitement in Barcelona (civil unrest) to surprising Croatia, and best of all, only 2 days of rain! Also a shout out to friendly Corfu, Greece!

If they can’t get Norway right, what do they get right? Not much by AvidTravelernow

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Viking Jupiter / Destination: Europe - Northern Europe

Not an authentic Norwegian experience which was a major miss for us. We loved what we saw on our own—it’s a beautiful country. Viking needs more coordination between ground and ship, and needs to improve communications pre-trip. There are too many mistakes and blame on corporate.

Viking should have cancelled this trip. by joncwhite

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Viking Jupiter / Destination: Transatlantic

We've loved our 7 Viking River cruises, which is probably the only reason why we'll give Viking Ocean another try. The ship is beautiful, and the service is unparalleled. But, so many ports were skipped, excursions not offered, and paid benefits not provided, this cruise should have been cancelled. Viking's covid protocols are largely unwarranted based on current scientific data, which leads me to believe they are in place primarily to appeal to the absolute most risk-averse cruiser. For example, we're at sea 9 days in a row, but still have to do a covid test every day and wear a mask at all times?!? How exactly could we be infected?!? And another example, every other treadmill must be inactive, but hundreds of people can sit in the Star Theater?!?

Viking Ocean Cruise a Disgrace Liar by VikingVictim

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Viking Jupiter / Destination: Europe - Mediterranean

On October 12th, 2021, my husband and I took Viking ocean cruise, Mediterranean Odyssey Barcelona to Venice - cruise OJU211012, under Captain Richard Blundell. On October 15th 2021, I requested a medical service on cruise OJU211012, $100 because I felt bloated and tired. We waited an hour watching a surgeon who does not provide a Doctor's name, getting a senior woman onto a gurney. Afterwards, the cruise doctor assistant took a blood sample from me that does not have any proof that I was having appendicitis. 1. The cruise doctor misdiagnosed me, accusing me that I was having appendicitis. I never yelled or screamed or agreed that I was having any stomach pain. I have proof that I was not having appendicitis during the cruise and after the cruise. 2. Without talking to me directly one-on-one, the cruise doctor disembarked me and my husband at 9am on October 15th and sent me to a Nice teaching hospital in France where the doctors do not speak English. 3. The cruise service manager Giseleen Gatchalian on October 15th lied to me at around 8:55am. She asked for my Whatapp phone number and said she will call me after I get to Nice hospital through out the day and if I am not sick how to get back onto the cruise. She never called me til after 7 hours. My husband and I could not and do not know how to reach Giseleen throughout the day on October 15, 2021. I have my Verizon service proving that there were no calls from Giseleen throughout the day. 4. Giseleen, cruise service manager provided disrespectful, rude, unprofessional services. 5. The cruise doctor sent me to the Nice teaching hospital in France and ensured that we do not hear from the cruise service manager until close to 6 pm when is dark and difficult to get back on the cruise. 6. The cruise doctor cost at the front desk says $100. we are billed $372.59 instead of $100. 7. On September 28, 2021, we pre paid the entire cruise gratuities for October 12 to October 24th total $360 (12 days X $30/day). We were forced to leave the cruise at 9:00am on October 15th. Total of $270 was never refunded to us. My husband and I fled back to USA on October 16th. I checked into hospital in USA and they said that I do Not have appendicitis. I was treated with antibiotics. I am writing because Viking is a lying cruise with mean, crude, service manager and doctor and does not refund us while we paid over $13,798. for a 13 day cruise and was forced to leave the cruise for absolutely no legitimate reason or physical proof that I was having appendicitis. Viking cruise will not refund even refund $270 for the prepaid gratuity while the cruise stole $10,613.85 from us!! NOTE: In Nice teaching hospital, the resident doctors never provided any document proof or have ever provided any documentations.

Iceland Natural Wonders by msmr1974

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Viking Jupiter / Destination: Europe - Western Europe

Viking always does a very good job (have cruised 150+ nights with them). In the current COVID environment they are going way above and beyond. All passengers and crew are vaccinated, all passengers and crew are tested for COVID each morning (quick simple saliva based test with sample left in cabin), masks are worn by all when not actively eating or drinking, all passengers and crew provided contact tracing device, many other protocols in place. As a result we felt very safe the entire time.

Great break from COVID by gregorynoddin

Ship: Viking Jupiter

Great service and a perfect trip for relaxation. Thank you for an amazing time. This is not your normal cruise line. This is impeccable service, with decent food, in a relaxing/low-key environment. While my ratings may say otherwise, that’s more due to the areas the app focuses on. We had a great time and are already booked for another on Viking next month.

Viking South American and Chilean Fjords by Barb2580

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Viking Jupiter / Destination: South America

It was an adventure. Not our best trip, but it was still very nice. Lots of nice places to relax on the ship. The ship itself does NOT handle waves well. I guess that is a risk of going on a smaller ship that can get into these smaller ports..... at least three nights I had to sleep with a pillow over our head because our room creaked by the moving of our boat.

Having never been on a cruise before I was overwhelmed by how much was available on board the ship. Next Viking cruise (and there will be a next time) I will take advantage of their spa -it seemed amazing! Great ship even if traveling alone-never felt lonely!

SO NOT WORTH THE EXPLORER SUITE PRICE ! ROOM 3000, BEWARE by kbsing

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Viking Jupiter / Destination: Europe - Mediterranean

I recently returned from Journey to the Antiquities trip, March 23 to April 6, on the brand new Viking Jupiter boat. I was looking forward to an amazing trip with my 84 year old mother. This was probably going to be her last big trip. We expected the best from this lovely new ship. What we got, was not. Here are my Explorer suite 3000 issues, and they are significant issues. So significant that I feel that any future passenger considering booking that room should be aware of, particularly on the cruise/travel websites… For their own good, since no one prepared me for those issues. The furniture was incredibly uncomfortable. Loveseat should have been a couch, and the two arm chairs were stiff like doctor's office furniture, and so hard and had to use bed pillows to make them usable for seating. They should have club chairs or some other softer seating for the amount of time spent in the room, which most people do when choosing a suite!!! especially so you don't have to run around the boat looking for seating! Transition/threshold strip between bathroom and bedroom was almost 2 inches high. We tripped constantly on it. What made this dangerous was during the night when my mom would need to use the bathroom. Not a frustration. Dangerous! Standing water in the shower. The water never drained, because the drain is on the right hand side of a square shower, parallel to the door, not in the center of the shower. It had to be dried daily by the housekeeping staff. Dangerous for my 85 year old mother to be in standing water taking a shower. This is a design flaw and two engineers came and took pictures. I recently renovated my home so I know a shower either needs to be pitched or the drain needs to be in the center. Neither in this case. And OMG, the worst - The noise!! Incredibly loud as we were directly over an anchor and the “thrusters” (according to the first officer who told me). From an hour prior to docking each time at port, arriving or departing, the noise level was unbelievable, the room shakes and vibrates, and would wake us out of sound sleep… and spaced over a few minutes each time, for over an hour. The noise was like a JACKHAMMER right next to us. Unbelievably loud. Even the TV on highest volume, could not be heard. 7 times in the morning, with 5 being at 6am. I’ve never heard noise that direct, and that loud, so close. It was deafening. I will try to upload the video of the noise if I can. Outside the room, in the hallway, was no noise at all. I contacted guest services several times. No offer of another room was made. I assume the boat was at capacity. I was told by Geoff, guest services manager, that this would be escalated to Viking headquarters. I confirmed I would be speaking to them upon my return. I have videos and pictures/proof of everything. I have attached some. The general public should know, as should the next passenger who spends $21,000 on this room. $5,000 for an average one week vacation (x2 for a 15 day cruise), is one thing. $21,000 is another. This was supposed to be a first class trip. In speaking to your customer service department upon my return, a rep, informed me that she could offer me a gesture of $250 voucher per person on my next Viking cruise. I will respond with exactly how I responded to her. “Are you joking?” A $500 “gesture” on a trip that I paid over $27,000 for??? And you want a second chance to impress me with a $500 voucher? You did not impress me the first time, and completely misled me and my investment in this journey, and you want a second chance, when I don’t get a second chance to pick a room that had no issues/less noise??? For the amount of money I paid you, I find that disgraceful! There should be some way to inform a selective passenger of the noise volume in that room. It was the most unpleasant wake up call each time we pulled in, and for the times we were in the room upon departure. And a gesture of that amount to offset what I paid YOU/Viking for the experience and ROOM??? Even my travel agent earned more in a commission on the booking than what your rep was offering me." Subsequent calls and emails to Viking customer service. No one seems to care that I overpaid and was dissatisfied. No, our trip didn't hit a huge storm and the piano did not go flying across the floor, but for the money I paid, 6 months prior to even traveling, you should be ashamed and do something about making HIGH paying passengers happy. I could have taken a $5000 cabin and not had any of these issues. What is so frustrating, is that Viking is treating complaints this way. I've emailed the CEO and senior management team multiple times already.

Beautiful new ship! We sailed... by chetsbabe

Sail date: /
Ship: Viking Jupiter

Beautiful new ship! We sailed the Iconic Western Mediterranean cruise on the Viking Jupiter from 23 Feb 2019 through 2 March 2019. The ship is brand new, with this cruise only its third cruise. Everything is well laid out, the public spaces are immense and beautiful, the food was fantastic, and the crew top-notch. We absolutely loved not being photographed every time we turned around, not having to pay for drinks at dinner or lunch, and not standing in line every time we went anywhere. We were on the ship in about ten minutes (we walked in, checked in, and went to the ship). There were zero lines. We were in the least expensive cabin category, as this was our first time on Viking, but we never ever felt lesser-than. I cannot day enough wonderful things about the cruise, the excursions, or the people. It was the best cruise we’ve had so far, and it was our 15th.

This was my first ocean cruise and it will be my last most likely. Much prefer the river cruise experience. Far more intimate and educational.
