Viking Jupiter

Review summary

It was an adventure. Not our best trip, but it was still very nice. Lots of nice places to relax on the ship. The ship itself does NOT handle waves well. I guess that is a risk of going on a smaller ship that can get into these smaller ports..... at least three nights I had to sleep with a pillow over our head because our room creaked by the moving of our boat.

Embarkation

Very smooth. Took only a few minutes

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
World Buffet and The Restaurant were just fine. We never went to either of the specialty restaurants as their menus did not appeal to us. Although we did try the Italian restaurant one night without reservations , but they did not accommodate us although we saw many open tables

World Cafe

Our favorite place to eat!

The Restaurant

We only dined there a few times, but we had great service. My favorite was the lemon ravioli

Pool Grill

5 out of 5

Appreciated a burger towards the end of the trip

Pool Bar

5 out of 5

Very basic and nice

Mamsen's

5 out of 5

The waffles and fruit were great.I didn't particularly care for the bread selection or the 'snacks' the rest of the day. A quiet venue

Aquavit Terrace

5 out of 5

My favorite place to eat when the weather was nice.

Onboard Activities

This was our first Viking cruise. A very mature crowd! Not near the activities that we have been used to on other cruises. It was lovely, don't get me wrong, but I was getting a little board. The pool areas are nice

Infinity Pool

4 out of 5

Only used it once as it is right THERE by the diners....The water level was lowered when sailing.

Wintergarden

4 out of 5

Only sat there a few times. The afternoon teas did not appeal to me. I know many people liked this however. My husband never went, I went twice on my own. I like a chai tea latte and the servers didn't know what I was talking about.

The Spa

5 out of 5

Very well appointed

The Library

5 out of 5

great selection of NEW and very clean books.

Spa Pool

4 out of 5

It was closed on 2 of the 3 occasions that I tried to use it. I don't know why.....they just said maintenance.

Main Pool

This was a very comfortable area with a nice retracting roof that worked very well. What a beautiful TV screen!!!!!! The ship showed the NFL playoff games there and it was great fun. I wish they would have viewed the College Championship Football game as well.

Fitness Center

4 out of 5

This was adequate for the size of the ship. My husband complained that there was nothing for upper body

Atrium

4 out of 5

Loved the changing digital picture at the top of the stairs.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
Our evening entertainment was not near as good as on Royal Caribbean or Princess.

The Theater

Could have been just a tad larger.I think the pillows are a waste of time. Do they clean them????Having a few blankets there for folks was nice. I liked the variety of revolving chairs and couches

Cabin / Stateroom

A nice size for the length of the trip.

Ship tip

This is a relaxing ship. Very mature crowd. Actually, we found many of the travelers to be cruise 'snobs'....will 'only' cruise Viking even though they have never been on any other cruise line. We met several in that category. It was by far the most expensive of any cruise we have done.

Ports of call

our intended excursion was cancelled due to a lack of individuals to sign up so the ship said, but I also found that it showed as 'sold out'??? So maybe a mistake by the cruise line. This was the Cattle Ranch Encounter

Puerto Madryn, Argentina

More on-board explanation about what we were seeing during the day would have been helpful. Some folks did not know what a fjord was exactly. Scenery was lovely however.

Puerto Montt, Chile

Santiago. Chile

I feel badly for this city.....so MUCH grafitti do to the riots and political unrest. The Marriott where we were held before disembarktation was very nice.

More detailed information about exactly how the day was going to work would have been appreciated. Customer service desk was very busy with questions.
