Ruby Princess has tons of little areas if you just want to get away from it all and relax. During the day the Adagio bar and Skywalker's nightclub are both abandoned so its a great place to go and catch the views and relax while you curl up with a good book. Also on sea days the aft of the ship has some great deck chairs for catching some sun rays and the foot traffic is a lot less then the main pool and deck areas. There are usually two shows a night in the theater so make sure to show up early for good seating. On our cruise show times were usually 6:15 and 8:30, so we would usually do the first show then grab dinner in the dining room after to avoid heavy crowds in both areas.
More activities, there was nothing to do on board and the movies on the big screen were ehorrible, activities director needs to be present and mingle with guests. This is how its done with royal Caribbean, carnival, and Norwegian. If you don't gamble or drink, there's not much for someone to do on a Princess cruise. Definitely won't be back or recommend it to others.
Get to know where the elevators go to each deck. there were so many we were confused which one to take when we wanted to go the top deck, or the dining room etc.
First time cruisers might wish to study the layout of the ship before their trip. Ordering bottled water before the trip was smart, but I didn’t come close to getting my $$ worth from the soft drink package. Hang on to your wallet and avoid over spending on all the add-ons.
The TV programming selections are the worst on any cruise line we have been on - few news channels to select from (NO CNN available); movies were poor, except for one or two; too many offerings with "The Love Boat theme" playing repeatedly. Norwegian and Celebrity have much better selections.
Check the safe to make sure it works properly. We've found the batteries are not checked and they can go. bad on you, just when you need to grab your excursion tickets or something!
Try another cruise line. Right now they are living on pass love for the cruise line. There are many options out there and I would not recommend Princess
If your sailing on the Ruby anytime soon, I suggest:
1. Get to know Anna of the Cruise Director's Staff shes a blast.
2. If you like portraits get the all inclusive package for $199.00. We had over 90 very nice portraits done. That works out to about $2.21 per photo. A great bargain. They give you the 8X10 print plus the electronic copy on a thumb drive so you can have them made into larger portraits. (Doing mine at Costco this week) Say Hi to Ruslana and Andrea.
3. Sea Days get a slice of Pizza and a beer and go back to the terrace pool for relaxation.
4. If you like Martinis, The Crooners lounge is great. You might even get to see a waitress do the Martini shake dance.
5. Have reasonable expectations. Be friendly to the crew and they will bend over backward to provide you good service. Remember that these folks do not get a day off. One group disembarks the next group of passengers start embarking an hour later. These folks typically work 6 to 9 months straight. They are lovely people not servants. I did see some passengers being unreasonable sadly. I really fell in love with this dedicated staff.
