Review summary

Great weekend getaway with Princess! We've done 4 day cruises before and they have always been more of a party boat so it was hard to relax, it was nice to be on a shorter cruise that didn't involve just partying and crowds of heavy drinkers. The cruise line did a great job of having activities for all age groups and keeping the entertainment ongoing and organized. In the past on other lines we've experienced that the cruise company's tend to cut back in service or activities and this was not the case with Princess. Linens were always used in the dining room, and you could always find something to see or do on the boat. All the onboard venues were open daily for use, and the menus and shows changed daily just as they would on a 7+ day cruise which was a real treat. I'd high recommend Princess and a cruise on the Ruby. The ship is clean and well maintained, and the staff on Princess cruises always do a fantastic job of taking care of the guest onboard.

Embarkation

San Pedro in Los Angeles is one of the easiest cruise terminals to depart from. It was less then thirty minutes from the time we parked the car to entering our room for the first time.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
The food was excellent! We ate in the Michelangelo dining room every night had nothing but the best food and service. The buffet was great for breakfast and very well organized with lots of seating. I'd like to also highly recommend the international cafe in the Piazza for quick snacks and coffee between meals.

Onboard Activities

Always something to see or do onboard, even during port days. Love catching the game shows and drink mixer demonstrations.

Entertainment

The shows on this particular cruise were AMAZING! Magic which was created by the same guy who did Wicked is now my all time favorite show I've seen at sea.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Princess has the most amazing staff of any cruise line we've been on and this cruise was no different. Everyone was always so friendly and welcoming. Shout out to the dining room staff and our room steward for the great service.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
For an older ship Ruby Princess is very clean and well maintained. The staff took a lot of time maintaining the common areas to make sure they were clean and taken care of for guest to use.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
This was our first cruise booking an interior cabin and A252 was a great choice. Lots of space for storage, the location had no traffic noise, and it was very clean and well maintained. Also the new Princess Luxury beds are seriously amazing! Hands down one of the most comfortable beds at sea.

Ship tip

Ruby Princess has tons of little areas if you just want to get away from it all and relax. During the day the Adagio bar and Skywalker's nightclub are both abandoned so its a great place to go and catch the views and relax while you curl up with a good book. Also on sea days the aft of the ship has some great deck chairs for catching some sun rays and the foot traffic is a lot less then the main pool and deck areas. There are usually two shows a night in the theater so make sure to show up early for good seating. On our cruise show times were usually 6:15 and 8:30, so we would usually do the first show then grab dinner in the dining room after to avoid heavy crowds in both areas.

Such a beautiful little city! Make sure to walk through old downtown there are a ton of local shops and restaurants to visit and experience. The wharf also is a great area to visit and dine with the vest views of the waterfront.
