we had a lovely, but tiring time. I would do a less excursion intensive cruise next time.
Perhaps because we are older, and the weather was so very hot, we were exhausted.
Embarkation
5 out of 5
We were prepared with all our paper work, and the embarkation was quick and easy and we were on board in no time. In fact, we didn't even have time to sit down.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
5 out of 5
the food was delicious. We had dinner the first night in the Crown Grill, and the food was fabulous and the service was prompt, and courteous.
In the MDR we had an outstanding crew. Ion and Branislav were wonderful, and were terrific with our grandchildren.
We only ate lunch the first day at the buffet, and while the food was good, it's really not my thing. I prefer a dining room, and being waited on. After all, I'm on vacation, too. And I really don't like wandering around with a plate of food looking for a table.
Onboard Activities
3 out of 5
we did not do any activities.
Children's Programs
4 out of 5
My 15 1/2 yr old grandson loved the teen club, and made lots of friends, and looked forward to spending time there in his free time.
My twin granddaughters 12 yrs old, we not quite as thrilled. They are at an awkward age. Too young for the teen club, but too old for the younger kids.. They did not really have as much fun.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
As always, the staff was wonderful, and catered to our every want and need.
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
The Royal Princess was clean, neat and sparkling. A pleasure to be onboard.
Cabin / Stateroom
5 out of 5
It was actually a Mini-Suite. There were 6 of us traveling together, and we had 2 adjacent mini-suites. The rooms were spacious enough for 3 and we managed quite nicely.
We were adjoined by the balcony by having the room steward open the partition between the cabins. However the balconies were VERY narrow, and by opening the partition, we had a partially blocked sliding door. Not fun, and it was so narrow, that we didn't get much of a chance to sit out and enjoy the view. Which is my favorite thing. I guess I like the older ships better , with a larger balcony.
Ship tip
Be prepared for a narrow balcony. It was really no fun at all (at least not for me)
again, through Princess, we took a dolphin cruise, which the children really enjoyed.
We then returned to the ship, had lunch and rested for a bit, then took a bus tour of Gibraltar, ending with tea in a very nice hotel.
we took a Princess excursion to Portafino, Santa Margherita and Rapallo.
the tour guide was wonderful, and the stops were beautiful, charming and picturesque.
They had the charming sidewalk cafes, homes nestled into the hills, with beautiful flowers cascading over the balconies. Everything you would expect in small Italian towns.
we took a Princess excursion to both Pisa and Florence. It was VERY hot and definitely too much for us old folks. Having said that we did have a wonderful lunch as part of the tour. Then my husband found our way back to the meeting place, and just sat and waited for the group to rejoin us.
we disembarked in Rome. We stayed at a wonderful hotel (Marcella Royal) and booked a couple of private tours before returning home a few days later.
The hotel had a beautiful rooftop garden overlooking Rome. There was a bar, and wonderful pizza and snacks.
