Service & Gratuities by Hasson

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Rhapsody of the Seas / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

The Servive was good.  Especially "Peter", "Puto Yoga", & "Jerome". They get 5 Stars!  One problem was with "Russian" in the Main Dining room. We were a 'Party of Six' and had requested to sit together... he said there was no Table left for 6 so we were split up ( 4 went to one Table & 2 went to another ) ...The request was made in advance, not as we walked in.  Guess what?  The 2 were seated at a Table for 8 and there were 4 empty seats!

As for Gratuities, it would be better if the automatic $24.00 a day Gratuity Charge was placed on the Cost of the Cruise rather than on the On-Board expense Voucher. The Company would not lose any money and the Staff might receive additional Gratuity.  Sure, some would not leave additional tips, however, many would.

My first cruise. by gailpaloma

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Rhapsody of the Seas / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

This was  first cruise for me.  My younger sister gave my twin sister and I (she went too) this cruise as a birthday present.  I have heard that one should be on the larger cruise ships because there is more to do, but I loved the size of the Rhapsody.  We got to know the wonderful staff by name and got to know most  places on the ship.  I particularily enjoyed swimming in the indoor pool, sitting in quiet spots to read and looking at the water-oh, and of course eating the wonderful food.  I've never wanted to go on a cruise before because I do not like dancing or shows but there is a lot more to a cruise than the entertainment.  The best of all, really, besides the views of mountains and glaciers, was the friendliness and care of the people who worked on the ship, from the captain to the housekeepers.  The only complaints I have or very small---there is a long wait at the pier before boarding, and the coffee was not so good. The towns in Alaska we visited were very touristy but my sisters and I walked to areas where not as many tourists frequented.  And many on shore excursions are available.  We went zip-lining.  Yikes!

Alaskan cruise 7 night -Royal Caribbean Rhapsody of the sea by elsa0126

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Rhapsody of the Seas / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

The cruise was excellent every body in our group enjoy it. The food was great, our dining was great especially our waiter Peter, Yoga and Jerome they did a excellent job, I'll give them a higher score 10. Even our stateroom attendant Iketut Wardana he did a good job the room is alway clean and neat his score is excellent 10.

The only  thing I don't like is head waiter name Rashun, at first we're in his side and I'm asking for table of six because we're are family but he give us only table of four

It was great by leisurecruiser

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Rhapsody of the Seas / Destination: South Pacific

From check-in to debarkation the cruise was 5 star all the way. Many great activities while at sea and the ports of call were excellent. Food on board was the tasty and plentiful. As usual fitness center is first class. The only negative area for me was the whirlpools. hi pressure jets and air were turned off. They said it was for customer safety.???? You have four whirlpools, make one work. Staff and crew are among the finest in the industry. Ship is clean and well maintained in the guest areas anyway  I would definetely recommend this cruise to anyone..

Horrible service for handicap and poor quality by Huy

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Rhapsody of the Seas / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

Ive been on multiple cruises with different companies, this is by far the worst! I First of all, I'm handicap in the legs and require crutches. When asked for a wheelchair on the rocky boat they needed to charge me a extra fee! Other cruises liners did not. Also, ship was out of date and old, not as modern as the others I've been on. Quality of the food also seem to of taken a few notches down, it was one of the things we were looking forward to but did not live up to expectations as before. Buffet served the same food day in and day out, our taste buds were sick of the same food after 7 days!

Fun and Beauty by Sharon4

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Rhapsody of the Seas / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

If you have cruised before, one might board this ship and be underwhelmed. The Rhapsody is not the newest ship, but she is clean and more than adequate. The Captain was awesome as was the Cruise Director. The beauty of the Alaska trip is so worth seeing. We were able to get very close to the Sawyer Glacier inside the Tracy Arm Fjord. The shows were some of best quality I've seen while sailing. The food and food service was great. The ship is smaller, so you get to know more people and I really liked that feeling. We were a bit disappointed that Royal Caribbean does not make a stop in Ketchikan, AK. The Celebrity X ship that was with us the whole trip made that stop and all the people we spoke to said it was by far their favorite stop. That's not to say that Skagway and Juneau are not good places to visit, as they each have their own charm and beauty. We had an inside cabin about mid-ship on deck 4. It was quiet with no noise problems from clubs or the Centrum area. The Solarium area of the ship is peaceful and beautiful. The café in the Solarium is terrific. Overall, jump on and go! We are glad we did. We have had 5 Carnival cruises and two with RC. The differences are with RC there were less children aboard which is a plus for us as we have raised ours. The downside was the photographers seemed rushed and a bit abrupt. However, they don't hound you about getting a picture taken. The shops are smaller due to smaller ship and the prices seemed a bit higher in the shops. No negatives large enough to keep us from recommending RC and this cruise.

Alaska is INCREDIBLE!!! What a trip! by boston

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Rhapsody of the Seas / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

Alaska was awesome. The scenery is magnificent from the boat and on land (we did the inner passage)! The excursions were incredible as well... Juneau - whale watching and Skagway - helicopter ride to glacier for dog sledding and jeep tour (better than the train). In Victoria we did the hippo tour - it was all right, but nothing special. The only thing I would do differently is that I would NOT leave from Seattle. We were on the cruise ship for three full days. One day we were at the Tracy Arm Fjord Glacier - we were able to get very close and that was incredible to see. However, it was still a full day! The staff was really friendly and helpful. They were also incredibly pleasant! The food was okay to good. The entertainment was okay. We purchased the drink package before getting on the cruise and there was only soda on tap from the bar - no coke machines - therefore it was not so worth it. The highlight of this cruise for us was really the stops.

Poor Food Quality by tpoole7

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Rhapsody of the Seas / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

I was not pleased with the menu items. I had the pork chop and it was dry and tasteless. I got a replacement steak with was good but the baked potato was burnt. The rest of the week was not much of an improvement. The cabin attendandent was great and other personel. When we boarded..my friend wanted her own charges on her card. At cust.serv. she had that changed...what a problem...NOW all charges were on her card and none on mine...

All heart but no follow thru', no attention to detail by andje

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Rhapsody of the Seas / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

we have sailed on Royal Caribbean, Carnival, Norwegian, Holland America. This is our 4th trip to Alaska. Royal Carribbean is our favorite cruise provider, but this journey to Alaska left much to be desired. The Windjammer hours, the rock climbing hours were short. The buffet was always crowded because of these short hours. They constantly asked that people vacate the table to make room for other guests. On the last morning - breakfast was served between 6:00am and 8:00am. They closed promptly at 8:00am. Imagine serving 2000+ guests in a 2 hour window - they ran out of plates, and food could not be replenished fast enough. It was not pretty. The selection of food was mediocre. Disappointing compared to our other cruises with Royal Caribbean (example: Navigator of the Seas was superb -- could not find anything wrong on that ship) On a bright note, the service in the dining room - by Savio and Sydney - was wonderful and made our evening each day. The park cafe in the solarium saved the day - decent food, and it was available when the wind jammer was closed. The evening entertainment was good

nice cruise by ozan

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Rhapsody of the Seas / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

Good cruise. Alaska is beautiful. Weather was terrific 65-70's. We cruised in August so we didn't see much snow. We saw glacier at Mendalhall Glacier on our 1st excursion in Juneau. Ship is beautiful. Dining servers were awesome - nice, polite & efficient. Cabin is ok, standard-nothing special. Bunk bed sheets were dusty and carpet wasn't vacuumed. Daily shows were entertaining. The captain was funny and charming. Lots of good activities on the ship for all ages so we were busy all the time. Watch out for the photographers on the ship. They are rude and arrogant! They won't let you take photos or video when they are around which is wrong!. We bought excursions on the ship for convenience. We found out later in town which is walking distance from the port in all the cities we visited that the prices were lower by 35% in town for the same excursions. Overall, good cruise.

Great Experience!! by jimmycat

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Rhapsody of the Seas / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

This was my first cruise, so I don't have any to compare it to, but I had the best time ever. The ship had plenty of entertainment to keep things exciting when at sea. The food was excellent as was the staff. The only thing I will do differently next time is get a suite with a window or balcony. I spent a lot of time watching the ocean at sea and it would be nice to be able to do it from my room.

Rhapsody of the Seas Overview by Corinne

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Rhapsody of the Seas / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

The inside Passage only spends about 4 hours around one glacier. That was disappointing. Food selection and quality was the poorest we have ever had on a Royal Caribbean ship. Older ship that has been refurbished so does not have things like the roller skating, flow rider, miniature golf, etc. Activities were minimal. No refrigerator in the inside cabin. Staff and crew was great !

great cruise for grand parents too by anncarr

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Rhapsody of the Seas / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

We are seasoned cruisers and decided as 2 grand parents to take our 7 year old grand daughter with us. We were a little worried that it would be too long and not suitable, but she loved it and and all worked out fine....when we were not visiting ports she was busy swimming......had wonderful weather......and being occupied with every thing else that is offered on this cruise. She arrived back much more mature as she delighted in choosing and dishing out her own food in the Windjammer and also being able to choose from a kiid's menu in the main dining room, even for the second seating as we were unable to get in the first seating......

Our cruise to Alaska 2013 by DJRatliff

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Rhapsody of the Seas / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

Since we had traveled with Royal Caribbean in January of 2013 we were a little experienced with the type of cruise line it would be. This is the only other cruise we have taken within the past 35 years. We wanted a leisure vacation that included doing whatever we wanted to do, and that is what we did. We found no problems at all with anything while we were aboard. Had a great trip to Alaska.

Royal Caribbean Review by shannen

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Rhapsody of the Seas / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

I love cruising. I traveled with 2 kids and was looking for a fun vacation to spend with my family. The service and the food were fantastic. Shore excursions are great. They treated us very nice. However, the activities on the ship were so boring comparing to my past Carnival cruise. For example, on my past trip with Carnival, people danced, enjoyed concert at the pool daily. We enjoyed comedy show, dance show, movies. However, it was dead end quiet at Royal Caribbean. There were no shows, comedians, movies, acrobat, miniature golf, etc. They had the Adventure room to drop off the kids, but we don't want to drop them off all day. For my next cruise, Royal Caribbean certainly will not on my top list to pick.

Phenomenal Tour by Kszczepaniak

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Rhapsody of the Seas / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

Rapsody of the Seas was a fun venue lots to do, mostly music. Most personnel were very nice and helpful, just not guest services. Cabins were very nice, spa and fitness center were great, I used these daily. Food was plentiful, but not as good as I have had on other cruises.

Absolutely beautiful by sundowners

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Rhapsody of the Seas / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

We enjoyed everything about the cruise very much. I would recommend to book your excursions directly with the ship. We booked with cruise.com, and had to take extra shuttles (extra charge) to the tour bus. Therefore we weren't able to go with the friends and relatives we were with. The reason for only 4 stars is that our suitcases were misplaced on the day of departure (we had booked a Seattle excursion before our flight back home) and we left w/o our luggage on a Friday. The luggage finally arrived the following Tuesday. Everything else was excellent, esp. the dining experience and the presentation.

alaska cruise by anniversarytrip

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple

all of the crew and staff were outstanding. We especially enjoyed the two evenings we dined in the Edelweiss and saw the tribute to the ship's waiters and cooks. They make the vacation because of their smiles and friendly service. Thank you for finding them.

Overall by bernamoore

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Rhapsody of the Seas / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

Service was very good. Windjammer dining facility was too small and there was inadequate service centers per food item (2) and too few tables. Food was mediocre to poor. In the dining room several dishes were served that were not tasty. There was excessive use of a brown gravy that was not a product of the meat it covered, e.g., prime rib was tender and and would have been tasty without the gravy, If liquid was needed it should have been au jus from the cooking of the meat. Also the "veal T-bone steak" was a good piece of meat until ruined by the gravy. A good steak doesn't need gravy.. The gravy tste like it came from a can. The "chicken cardon bleu" was tough and tasteless. There was hardly any cheese. One person at my table had a leg bone in his serving. The "apple strudel" had great tasting filling but the pastry was like leather. I was disappointed that so much canned fruit was offered and limited fresh inseason fruit.
