"NCL is not the way to cruise" by RiyadS

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Pride of America / Destination: Hawaii

NCL Pride of America is a fairly new ship (1-year old) and was the worst Service ever experienced on a Cruise Ship. I traveled with NCL 10-years ago on the Windward in the Caribbean and must say was a Great cruise experience. Pride of America severly under-staffed and the All-American crew left something to be desired due to tips paid in advance and no incentive to offer quality service. Hawaii is a great place to visit and would recommend traveling in the winter when there are other cruise options other than NCL like Royal Caribbean or Celebrity.

Great Time by ReemM

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Pride of America / Destination: Hawaii

The Islands were very beautiful, we had a great time, the ship on the other hand was very dissapointing, service was petifull, and the service people had major attitude, we complained, doubt it will change a thing. The food was not good either, the buffet was running out of food and was not replaced.

Less than adequate cruise by WilliamA9

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Pride of America / Destination: Hawaii

We felt the ship lacking in every feature. The service in each area was not good, the food was good to poor, we did not really enjoy the "freestyle" as posted, actually beginning with the front desk staff on down there were no "stars"..Our room and our steward-Conrad- was the only positive on the cruise. The shows and activities were not user friendly. Usually there are small jazz bands or such before and after dinner in main areas to make the waiting pleasant-there were none-I am sure the main focus is on seeing Hawaii and the islands but there were no activities on ship daily for those of us that did not tour. All in all starting with management and going down this was not a cruise we would recommend at all.

A disappointing cruise by SusanA17

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Pride of America / Destination: Hawaii

Ship was beautiful and a great way to see the Hawaiian Islands but was extremely disappointed with the lack of customer service that was provided by NCL and the Pride of America. This is my third NCL cruise and have enjoyed the freestyle dining in the past. Not the case on this cruise. It was obvious that there was not sufficient staff, service was extremely slow and the reservation process was cumbersome and not convenient for passengers. The food quality was OK but the service terrible. We never met our cabin steward and needed to constantly remind them to empty the trash on a daily basis. The quality of the entertainment and shops was very disappointing. I will be planning my next cruise and can say that it will most likely not be with NCL. I hope they take these comments to heart and get better operational management as well as invest in better customer service training. I can't see how this ship and now the other two, Aloha and Hawaii will survive with this type of service.

A great Cruise! by VB257049652

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Pride of America / Destination: Hawaii

The Pride of America is a beautiful Ship. The rooms with balconies were very clean and comfortable. The food was really good. Room service was a little slow. We had an hour wait the one time that we did order. They need to work on the greeting that they give you at the airport. The person that met us didn't give good instruction on which bus we should catch to the ship and where we should put our luggage. The luggage went on uhaul like trucks. It would have been nice if they would have told us what to do. Many people had to stand around, figure it out and ask questions. I really enjoyed the broadway style show. They needed to have more of them. This way their would be more family shows without profanity to attend. The newly wed show was also fun. I think that they should change their systems for purchasing soda. Each soada card cost $35. It would have been nice if a family could have used the one card. If you are on the outside deck they would not give you the whole can. Every time you wanted more soda you had to find the traveling cart. That was inconvenient to receive a half glass and keep getting up for another. The excursions were great! Maui was the best port. Out of all the malls that one was the best for people that like to buy clothes. There is an automatic service charge of $10 per person per day for the cabin steward. $5 per day per each child. A couple would have to pay $140 in tips just for the cabin steward. I think this should be left up to customers to decide. I think people should know this information when booking the cruise. They put these fees on your bill at the end of the cruise. They also encourage you to tip the steward if they have been extra nice. Hello, I think the $70 per person for that week is a tip.

Pride of America by GP78097832

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Pride of America / Destination: Hawaii

This was our first cruise and we were unsure of what to expect. The ship is beautiful, but we had some trouble with our stateroom. I wish that we would have felt more comfortable communicating our concerns about our stateroom with the staff. Overall our experience was wonderful and we had a great time.

Very negative experience by NancyO5

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Pride of America / Destination: Hawaii

The ship was clean, large, and had facilities to make everyone confortable. The cabin was small and congested. The cabin steward was excellent. The food and service in all the eating facilities were lousy and the attitude of the staff was unbelievably blase and uncaring.

Loved this cruise! by Ja111

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Pride of America / Destination: Hawaii

The ship was very clean and the staff was smiling and most helpful. Our room was kept nicely. Staff took care of anything we needed immediately. Who ever did the logistics of moving this many people is a master. We walked right on at boarding and right off at disembarking. We never waited on anything any time - were never in a line for anything. The itineray kept changing and we didn't get to see the lava flow at night or the cliffs of Kauai.

Great Trip by ToddT

The Pride of America is a great ship. Very clean, and the pictures of the decor on the site do not do it justice. The oragnges and blues are not as shocking as they may seem.

The ship was clean. The staff was friendly. I liked that it was accessible for the disabled. The food was good and accessible. The (ship) ride was mostly smooth and on time. There was an overall atmosphere of calm and friendliness.

First Class, and looking for more! by PeteW1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Pride of America / Destination: Hawaii

The flights home sucked, no I mean really sucked. Did I mention that they were really bad? How bad you say, my 78 year old parents did not reach home until 36 hours after leaving the boat and it was planned that way. The other 4 of us were shouved in the back of a 767, and arrived home 22 hours after departing the ship and that was the way you planned it that way. For a premium price???

No PRIDE in this Cruise Line! by BarbaraM21

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Pride of America / Destination: Hawaii

This was the WORST cruise experience I could imagine, short of natural disaster striking. This "freestyle" cruising is truly "fend for yourself" cruising. The ship is understaffed, and the staff that is present is most unpleasant. (I guess up-front, mandetory tipping provides no incentive to provide service.) The activities are few and far-between, and each lasts approximately 30 minutes. Hence, just when something might be fun, it is over. There are some amazing restaurants, which cost extra. That would be fine, except seating is EXTREMELY limited, leaving you to eat in a buffet nastier than most diners on a cross-country road trip. The buffet routinely ran out of food, including essentials like milk & cereal. My husband (and most of our floor)caught an awful virus, causing us both to be quaranteened. No one ever checked on us or told us how we were supposed to get him the "special diet" items delivered to our state room. They sent us out with powdered Gatorade (Yea, you figure out how to mix that in your state room!) Even the medical facility was dirty, and they charged us $95 to be treated for the virus he caught from their unsanitary ship! Do not waste your vacation and/or money on NCL!

Hefty price for the worst experience by mvpascale

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Pride of America / Destination: Hawaii

Our experience on NCL Pride of America It’s been 3 years since we took a vacation. Like many, celebrating the lift of Covid lockdown, we went big. We booked a no-brainer cruise to Hawaii hoping we could experience the different islands of Hawaii with convenience. However, the convenience and comfort of all travel hassles including accommodations and dining should have been easily answered by a very pricey cruise liner known for an Hawaiian island hopper experience. But nope!!! Norwegian Cruise Line charged me a hefty price to experience utter frustration due to short staff all throughout including restaurants, housekeeping, room service, etc. When you are patient enough to receive service, you’re occasionally greeted with justifiably salty employees because they are overwhelmed. Forget about the promised entertainment because there was hardly any. We watched a poor worker In Cadillac, a complimentary diner restaurant, man the whole restaurant, as a host, server, and bus boy while there was a “staff meeting” during peak lunch hour as he explained. It wasn’t a problem to wait an hour to be noticed. It wasn’t a problem that it was the same experience we had the day before. But it was disturbing to watch this poor guy, Tony, be apologetic for a circumstance he shouldn’t have had to apologize for to annoyed patrons. From our experience, patrons are frequently inconvenienced by NCL’s routine staff line of business, in which I’ve never experienced with other cruise lines being an experienced cruiser. Many highlighted pleasures such as their gelato/shaved ice bar and sushi bar are not available due to lack of staff. Understandable due to unprecedented times due to Covid and economic troubles. But geez… have some standards Or don’t charge what you cannot honestly deliver! I’m appalled that I paid for a cruise that rendered apologies over quality. Never again NCL!!! Never again.

Hawaii Cruise NCL by rctvideo

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Pride of America

I as very disappointed with NCL. If not for the islands we visited, this would been a horriable cruise. There were several rude employees, employees in the gift shops were rude, and Drinks were not free as advertiised as we were charged tax for each drink. The only shop this great customer service was the jewelry store. Was told we got two free special dinners but was charged for the second one (customer service did nothing to retifiy and this appears to be an employee mistake in telling use we had two free dinners). If you want to see several Hawaii Islands this is the way to go, just expect some rude employees. The pool was no heated as I have seen on other curises thus very few people used them.
