Traveled as: Couple

Review summary

The ship was very clean and the staff was smiling and most helpful. Our room was kept nicely. Staff took care of anything we needed immediately. Who ever did the logistics of moving this many people is a master. We walked right on at boarding and right off at disembarking. We never waited on anything any time - were never in a line for anything. The itineray kept changing and we didn't get to see the lava flow at night or the cliffs of Kauai.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
We found we prefered the specialty restaurants. The Bistro was very good and went there twice. We decided to do the buffet for breakfast to save time because they had everything there and if they didn't, they cooked it for you on the spot. We ate in the regular dining rooms once.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
Shore excursions are expensive. Would be a lot cheaper just to buy it at the pier in each destination. We rented a car at most destinations and found that very good - the rental companies have pier pick-up and you can rent them online much cheaper than any other way before you leave.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Staff was great. It was our first cruise so we didn't know what to expect. Veteran cruisers complained about not being pampered at every move like they had been by staff on other ships. We thought they were adequate and took care of everything.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
I have bad knees and the ship and staff were Johnn-on-the-spot for anything or help I needed. I did everything. I wondered before we left how this would work out. No problem - lots of others on the ship had disabilities of knees, hips, wheelchairs and they did everything too with staff help.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Our steward kept everything good in our room and timely. The room size was adequate, we were in an A category and hardly ever felt any movement there. We had our own balcony and that made the trip! We will do that every time from now on. We also had the internet in our cabin which I really liked although it is expensive.

Ports of call

Kahului, Maui

5 out of 5
Great place to rent a car and see it on your own for a couple of days. The rental company had overnight parking right at the pier. Must see/drive the acquarium, the coast on the Lahaina side, the coast on the Kahului side but not Hana Highway - too windy and narrow, and all the cane and pineapple fields in the interior. The interior roads and little towns were lovely.
Don't Miss: Acquarium and vocano you drive to the top of - 10,000 feet.

Hilo, Hawaii

5 out of 5
Great port - loved our volcano drive again. It is a must see and then drove up the coast with all the beautiful canyons and waterfalls cascading to the ocean. We drove a "scenic drive" no name just north of Hilo through one of the canyons and that was spectacular. Look for it on the map and then a little sign pointing to "scenic drive."
Don't Miss: volcano and scenic drive

Kailua-Kona, Hawaii

5 out of 5
We went to church and had a great time with the islanders. Afterwards a taxi driver that had been a tour driver for 15 years showed us this part of the island. Had a great day.

Lahaina, Maui

5 out of 5
This town and coast line are beautiful. Great place for a rental car but you have to rent it in Kahului and keep it a couple of days to see it all. We took the submarine trip and that was a waste. Could see all the tropical fish so well at the acquarium and much easier.
Don't Miss: banyon tree in the town square and the coast line

Pros: Having a cabin with our own balcony and the island views

Cons: nothing
